Their names are: Anneke van Giersbergen (Blonde) She's Dutch, and sings mostly solo, but also has done a lot of work with Ayreon and Devin Townsend Marcela Bovio (Wine) She's a Mexican lady who has lived in the Netherlands for a long time. She sings in a band named Mayan. Floor Jansen. You should know all about her by now. Ayreon is not so much a band, it's a project from producer and multi-instrumentalist Arjen Lucassen. He invites loads of people to participate on his concept albums. All of them have a central theme and a story where all vocalists fill a role like in a play.

Hey Julia, Anneke (the blonde) was Floor's inspiration as she was in a metal group called the Gathering when Floor was in her teens. Your wine haired girl is Marcela Bovio she is Mexican and is also a metal singer and funnily is the lead singer for the band MaYaN that Mark Jansen who used to be in the same band as Floor Jansen (After Forever) - but are not related but now is also one of the founding members of Epica who you are reacting to as well soon?? There are a lot of inter-relations between all these performers in the Euro metal scene. On Ayreon it is a progressive metal project more so than a band as it consists of Arjen Lucassen and whatever other singers and musicians he can pull together at a given time. This song is on the folk side of the project obviously more so than the metal side but that is the nature of progressive music it can go anywhere! Haha! I just had to add to this that technically this is a Star One song which is another of Arjen Lucassens projects and one that Floor was involved in as a singer way way back in the day with her sister doing backup vocals. This concert was the first Ayreon concert as he tried to assemble a whos who of European metal singers and it had proven a big challenge and one he didn't think he could pull off but luckily for us he did!

The main reason so many great vocalists want to work with Arjen Lucassen (the guy behind Ayreon) is that he's apparently so much fun to work with. Also Ayreon live concerts are rare, since Arjen has severe social anxiety and stage fright. So that hopefully explains why there is no competition between the singers here (or anywhere during the Ayreon Universe Live concert, which features over a dozen very talented vocalists from the rock/metal genre). They're all in it for the fun of performing.

I personally list myself as a contemporary singing specialist because I wear both vocal coach and voice teacher hats. If someone specifically only works in one area it can be good to know what those definitions can mean so that you're getting what you want from your teacher or coach.

I think you'd be surprised at how much 'metalheads' appreciate good music. There are so many genres of metal itself. Many bands use punk, pop, operatic, classical, symphonic or what-have-you ellements into their music. Metal has so many variations in it, it dumbfounds me how it's all dumped together as just 'noise' by what is considdered 'mainstream'.

Check out Anneke's former band The Gathering. Back in 1995 their album 'Mandylion' paved the way for (almost) all the melodic metal bands with female singers we know now. :-) The Gathering and Anneke did an amazing anniversary concert back in 2014 with epic versions of the songs: 'On Most Surfaces' and 'Travel'. For years I thought of Anneke as Dolly Parton on uber steroids, perhaps cause she does a very nice Jolene, but literally a week ago I heard Kristin after a long while and it was such an obvious comparison! Actually would be great crossovers - Anneke on Broadway and Kristin at Wacken... I hope you check out the less "delicate" part of Anneke's range, as she sang in a few great metal bands/projects over the past 25 years - The Gathering, Devin Townsend Project, Gentle Storm, and Vuur - and has amazing power, endurance, and expressiveness to go with that lovely tone. Almost the Fairy Godmother of dutch female vocals in a metal band due to the band The Gathering. Has colaborated with so many great artists all througout the years she has her own friggin Wikipedia page dedicated to her discography. Wine = Marcella Bovio. Born in Mexico. Came to the Netherlands when Arjan decided he wanted to do a metal project with all kinds of musicians across the world. Aptly named "Stream of Passion" that project transformed into a band when Arjen and his wife left and were replaced. Stream of Passion sadly disbanded (but still I'd recommend looking into it if you're stung by the symphonic metal with beautiful female vocals bug) Now she's still a regular performer for the Ayreon project and her band Mayan (which she shares with Mark Jansen. Yes from Epica) And if it's starting to look like the Dutch Metal scene is tiny and "everyone is doing it with everybody" you'd be quite right. :P

I'm a bit synthesizer person, and in sound sculpting there are multi-timbral patches, where you usually mix a strong and clear base sound with a resonant and characteristic one to make a deeper and interesting texture. They're all amazing. I see that most comments already told you about Anneke so let me say something about Marcela Bovio (wine), yes... she's in a band called Mayan like someone pointed out but let me add she's also a soprano, opera singer, plays the violin and she was in a symphonic metal band called Stream of Passion which was actually sooo good also kudos to her cause she's a badass and just beat cancer. 🤘

Three of my faves on that stage. Marcela Bovio ("Wine") who is trained as a classical, has a timbre that frequently resembles Anneke's ("Blondie"), and has backed up Anneke on a couple of her projects. Namely, "The Gentle Storm", a project with Arjen Lucassen, as well as it's offshoot, VuuR, which is basically the same band but without Arjen's participation. Marcella found out in May that she is Cancer free!

Ayreon is an ongoing one-man project, and for each of his musical tales he gathers musicians from all over the world to form a one time band with. Mostly just for recording sessions. It's pretty damn interesting!

Ayreon is not a band but only Arjen Lucassen (from which the name Ayreon is derived because it almost sounds like his first name) himself. Arjen combines various music genres. The different genres of music are often alternated within one song. The use of unexpected instruments is also a hallmark of Ayreon's music. Arjen writes, sings and plays instruments on all Ayreon albums. A beautiful little song that sounds like it is from another time and place. Anneke van Giersbergen (Blonde) is one of Floor's early influences and one of her idols. She proved to Floor that there was a place in heavy music for a strong woman vocalist. Anneke's Dutch band was called "The Gathering". Great job on this one my friend. BTW, your hair and you overall are very beautiful! Peace.

Great reaction, and yes we're sneaky, but not opposed to Broadway music purse. At least not the Ayreon fans I suspect. (Check the Ayreon Wikipedia). I'm thinking we next want you to react to 'within temptation somewhere, feat. Anneke van Giersbergen' for more Anneke (the Blonde) and introducing another of the Netherlands' awesome female vocalists Sharon den Adel, followed by 'Within Temptation - Paradise (What About Us?) ft. Tarja' to double back to Nightwish. Or do we want to really hit her with more Ayreon awesomesauce 'The Day the World breaks down (11 vocalists)' or 'The Star of Sirrah from Ayreon Universe Live' (One tends to lose track of the nr of vocalists there)? Floor and Anneke are Dutch. Anneke started in the band The Gathering. You should react to their song Strange Machines ( the blonde). She also does acoustic tours. Anneke is 47. Her other band is Vuur.

Marcela is the front woman of the Dutch band Mayan. Julian you can spend months to watch and listen to the Symphonic Metal bands from the Netherlands. The most well known are, The Gatering, Within Temptation, Epica, Delain, Mayan, After forever, Revamp, Vuur. Ayreon is not a band but a huge music project from Arjen, he commented already, where all the great musicians of the scene collaborate. It’s an amazing piece of music. BTW most of the European musicians of the Symphonic Metal scene collaborate somewhere and sometimes and they make a lot of fun together. I hope you can find some time to investigate. ENJOY

I just saw Annike last year. She has a beautiful acoustic setlist but she is well know metal singer. She was one of the original Symphonic Metal female fronted singers. Check out her first band, The Gathering. She was singing amazingly at only 20 years old

Anneke has an interesting voice and does some really nice solo work in addition to working with a band. Marcella does really nice backups for Ayreon as well as some solo work in his productions. His rock operas are worth looking at. "The day the world breaks down" gives you a whole bunch of soloists to get a taste of.
