You are right, one needs to have some level of appreciation for MUSIC to like how this sounds. In this particular video which you have reacted to, he sung 2 songs. He flawlessly has mixed the two, making it look like it was only one song. With kal ho na ho, the way he sung it is very different to the original (in a good way) it almost sounds like he changed the GENRE of each verse. He's amazing.
