I love your explanation of why Jonghyun's voice is so appealing. Since you're a vocal coach, I suggest reacting to some of SHINee's weirder stuff. Orgel comes to mind! Orgel is also a great Halloween-y song since it is about so obsessively loving a girl that you wanna capture her and turn her into a ballerina doll to keep in a demented music box. Also, SHINee did a cover of "Dear Name" on the show "IU's Palette" which is must-see for vocal coaches (and IU's cover of SHINee's "Sherlock" is also very worth watching - it is in the same episode). SHINee’s Harmonies are glorious and main reason there (aside from the fact that they know each other’s voices well) is because of each of the five members’ very distinct voices from one another. Different tones, different range, different vocal colors.. but when they sing together they blend so well together it’s so good!

Contrary to most comments, I would highly recommend their live stage for a Japanese song called Colors of the Season, but with all five members. This song compliments all of their voices individually and their multiple blending harmonies. I guarantee you will enjoy it more than you believe 😊

SHINee's "Married to the Music" was released in 2015 and it's supposed to be fun and upbeat, because they are "Married to the Music." The MV has a very "Rocky Horror Picture Show" vibe, and it's just about as iconic of a cult classic as that movie as well. As others have probably mentioned, In the MV the girl in the wedding dress was collecting the best body parts from each of the members to create her ideal man. She burned Minho's head because what she wanted was his body. She used fire because Minho's nickname is "Flaming Charisma" because of his passion for sports and his need to always win. Minho has the best body of the group so, she took Minho's body, Key's head, Onew's nose, Taemin's eyes and Jonghyun's lips (for obvious reasons. LOL). Then at the end she spliced them all together and formed her perfect guy. If you notice, in the end credits you see a person that has been created from all of the members' body parts which is supposed to be the guy the girl created. In other words, music is a very fickle girl and she controls your life by picking and choosing the best parts and mashes them together to create the perfect song. LOL. "Married to the Music" is considered a Halloween must watch within the fandom and most of us make this MV part of our Halloween tradition every year. However, this song and MV came out in August, nowhere near Halloween. Halloween isn't really a big deal in Korea and it has only been in the last few years that Koreans have started to celebrate Halloween by holding costume parties. Halloween in Korea is pretty much a western culture transplant. But, the middle of summer is horror season in Korea. Koreans say they like to watch scary movies and shows in the summer because it gives them chills which cools them down when it is hot. SHINee are just doing what we have all come to expect from them -- starting a new trend. With every new song release, SHINee are expected to come out with a style and sound that is brand new, not only for them, but in the industry as a whole. What you just experienced is exactly what makes SHINee legends. And this is the reason why they are so highly respected, and why almost everyone in the industry who came after them cites them as one of their biggest influences and one of the reasons why they wanted to become a singer and dancer, etc. SHINee are one of the most iconic and influential groups. They are always setting trends, never following them. SHINee where designed to be SM Entertainment's experimental boy group, so everything they do is meant to be the first and they are expected to come up with a style and sound that has never been done before. SHINee has started the trend with almost everything -- with every one of their songs to their dances to clothing trends, to live performances, to the way Kpop is promoted -- there is almost nothing that can't be attributed to something SHINee has been involved in. With every new song SHINee produces it's expected to be different than the last, so you will NEVER hear the same style or sound from them in any of their songs, even on the same album. The industry looks to SHINee to show them what the next song style and dance trend will be. And it is said that within 3 months of SHINee releasing their new song and choreography, you will see that same sound and style being duplicated across the industry with every comeback to follow from both boy groups and girl groups. When SHINee does something the industry takes note and follows suit. Case in point, SHINee is known as one of the very first groups to ever dress up in full costume for Halloween. They first did it for a fan meeting. Which is what gave Lee SooMan (the founder of SM) the idea to hold a costume party. Now SM is known for holding one of the largest costume parties every year. As part of the party there is a costume contest and the person with the best costume wins an all expenses paid vacation trip. Key is very competitive when it comes to fashion, costumes included, and the last time he attended the Halloween party he won. He came as Voldemort from Harry Potter. You just discovered why SHINee still holds one of the top spots after more than 13 years in the industry. If you are impressed now, just wait until you go through their entire discography of songs and MVs. So far, they have 13 full-length albums (7 Korean albums and 6 Japanese albums), several repackaged albums, a multitude of mini albums, numerous OSTS, they each have solo songs and albums and there are hundreds of live performances that will absolutely leave you speechless with their talent. And it only gets more and more impressive as you follow them through their career. However, if you want to see where SHINee truly shines, you have to see their live performances. SHINee are part of the second generation of Kpop and, yet, they are younger than most everyone in their generation and are the same age or even younger than many members of groups who came after them, such as EXO and BTS, etc. which are part of Kpop's third generation. SHINee debuted young and have the experience of seasoned veterans. When SHINee debuted in 2008, Onew (the leader and lead vocalist) was 18, Jonghyun (the main vocalist and songwriter) had just turned 18, Minho (the main rapper and sub-vocalist) and Key (lead vocalist and sub-rapper) were 16 and Taemin (Main dancer and lead vocalist) was 14, so now they are all in their late 20s and early 30s. (Onew turned 31 last December.) SHINee are some of the most well respected artists in the industry. Onew (pronounced Oh-New, real name Lee JinKi) has one of the most unique and best voices in the industry. (Onew means, or sounds like, the Korean words for soft or gentle, so he was given his stage name because he has a very calm and gentle personality.) His vocals are unmatched. He even holds the record (40+ seconds) for the longest continuous note without changing tone or pitch, etc. Jonghyun is known as one of the best vocalist in Kpop who was one of the most prolific songwriters and composers of his generation. Jonghyun wrote and composed almost 40% of SHINee's songs, plus he wrote all of his own solo songs and numerous songs for other artists. He was one of the only SM artists to be given complete artistic control over his work, including several of SHINee's song selections. He was extremely respected within the industry as a songwriter, composer and singer. He was one of the very first Idols to be known for his songwriting and composing skills, and he was the first of SM's artists to have a fully self-wrote album. As the main vocalist, Jonghyun is the one you hear with all the amazing high notes and R&B runs and ad libs most of the time. Key is our fashionista of the group who is SHINee's stylist for a lot of their MVs and stage outfits. He is an amazing singer and is a sub-rapper in the group. He is also known as SHINee's dance copy machine. Key has the ability to see and remember choreography the fastest in the group. He only needs to watch the dance once and he has it memorized. He is also SHINee's fluent English speaker, and he is almost as good as a native speaker. Minho is the main rapper and visual of the group, but his vocals are also some of the best in the industry. Minho sings just as much as he raps. He also writes most of his own raps in SHINee's songs. Minho is one of the top actors in the industry and he has starred in numerous dramas and movies. Minho is also known as a top athlete. He says these days he goes to the gym a couple of times a day to work out just because he likes to work out, but he is also crazy about soccer, and he plays basketball, baseball and golf, and he is good at track and field events, etc., as well. And not only does he enjoy playing all those sports, but he is usually the best athlete on the field and he pretty much wins every time. And, Taemin is considered one of THE BEST dancers in the industry, and that's not just by fans but by everyone in the industry, including his peers. Taemin's nickname is the Korean Michael Jackson. He is also one of the most popular solo artists in the industry and he is a member of the Kpop supergroup SuperM. SHINee are one of the top groups that are known for the fact that they all can do it all. They are a group of 5 amazing vocalists, 5 impressive dancers, 5 visuals, 5 rappers, 5 top actors, and 5 of the most talented and unique voices in all of Kpop. Once you get to know their voices you will always be able to pick them out of a crowd just by the sound of their voice. Most fans will tell you we know who is speaking or singing within 1 second even with our eyes closed, with them standing in a crowd of screaming fans. Each of their voices are that unique -- there is no one with a voice like any of theirs. That is why they are "The Princes of Kpop". SHINee are known for their live vocals and amazing dancing. They are known as CD-quality singers because they sound just as good live, if not better, than they do recorded. SHINee always sings live. The ONLY thing they are not good at is lip syncing so they avoid it at all costs, so when you hear SHINee singing 95% of the time it will be live. They have trained their entire career to be able to sing live and sound flawless while performing extremely complex choreography for more than 3 hours straight. SHINee set the standard when it comes to live performances. That is why they are so highly respected among their peers. It is literally referred to as the SHINee standard. It's the standard all other groups strive to reach.

Please react to Excuse Me Miss, or Sherlock live! Both performances are absolute legends. Editing my comment to add a bit of info! Shinee has some of the most amazing vocalists in music. Onew has the spikey brown hair. His voice is stunning. Very bright, and would be well suited for musicals, I think. Jonghyun is the one in the beginning whose voice you said you liked. He had one of the most distinctive, and impressive voices in kpop. His voice is INSANE Key had his head cut off. Another brighter voice. His solo work is very cool! Minho is the group’s rapper, and doesn’t have as many vocal parts though in their more recent works he is singing more and even has a solo song. His voice is very gentle, even in most of his raps. Taemin sounds like a mix of Jonghyun and Onew, to me. His voice has some of the same qualities that Jonghyun’s does but is less punchy. It makes sense because the two of them basically taught him to sing. When Shinee first debuted, Taemin was 14 and only danced. He has the largest body of solo work from the group, and is one of the biggest idols now. He’s also part of SuperM. My favorite solos from him are Criminal and Pretty Boy!

I totally hear what you mean by the tea kettle comment, haha. I've been subscribed to you for a while now (on another account), so I was so pleased to see you react to my favourite group ever. They're known as the Princes of Kpop, the idols of idols, and one of the GOATs, especially when it comes to live performances, like everyone else has already mentioned. They hit the ground running in 2008 and have never stagnated. All 5 of them have quite distinct voice, but towards the end you stopped the video to comment and compliment the 2 high vocal they belong to Jonghyun (the one lost the lips in the MV) and Onew (the one lost his nose in the MV) they are the main and lead vocal in the group however nowadays they said there are No more Main Vocal, lead vocal of the group coz all 5 of them are quite strong vocalist. SHINee have been my favourite vocal group for many years but without understanding why - it's nice to hear how the sausage is made, so to speak, ha. 😂 I'd enjoy seeing more breakdowns of SHINee. Some lives that I think are a nice balance of group harmonies and letting the individuals shine are: - Symptoms (kzbin.info/www/bejne/r5upnH6Zipt6qck). It's super old, 2013 I think, but so good. - Excuse Me Miss (kzbin.info/www/bejne/oISyg5Snibasoc0). A couple of years later, kinda funky, very cool performance. - Marry You (kzbin.info/www/bejne/fXicmYOBrNKYj9E) 90s RnB vibes, came out this year. - Dear Name (kzbin.info/www/bejne/fGa8nn-hnZ2hjJY). This is a cover and the original singer is listening and looks like she wants to cry it's so good. Later songs are down a member as one of the group sadly passed away in 2017.

You should be aware that Shinee Jonghyun tragically passed away in 2017 and the Shinee community is still very sensitive to this horrible event. One of my favorite performances is Why So Serious at SWC V. Another is Winter Wonderland, not sure what concert. Shinee Key has a great song out right now called Bad Love. I like the vocals very much.

You should wear black around your eyes all the time, it really shows your eye color. Sure it might be odd all year round, but you can just say it’s part of your creative expression. I dressed as a pumpkin for halloween once. I sprayed my hair orange and wore a stalk on the top. Anyway, I know this was a SHINee video, and thank you. They’re legends. I’ve only heard their recent music before. I think Jonghyun and Onew were the two higher voices.

Wow what a surprise. :) And the thing about the harmony adlib that you pointed out I think most of the time they do that during their live stages. Those were Jonghyun (main vocalist) and Onew (lead vocalist). I am now wanting more analysis of their voices (no pressure). But if ever you decide to react to them more I think a good introduction to their singing is their unplugged medley. kzbin.info/www/bejne/q6aoaIWsipuEoc19 As a fan, I actually don't mind some criticism because they themselves are quite honest about wanting to improve their vocal techniques. It will just be nice to hear some analysis of their voices.

You said that you like a song with a really good base line. And that's exactly SM. They have a lot of song with a good base line. Beside, SM known as the house of top tier vocalist, like DBSK, SUJU, Shinee, EXO, Red Velvet, NCT and Aespa.
