Bro, I have no idea where people are coming from when they say she has bad technique. She's easily one (if not the) of the technically best singers in pop. Her onsets are smooth, her throat's beautifully relaxed, great agility. The only thing I was worried about at first with her and Glinda was her Joan Sutherland levels of bad enunciation. Granted, if I had to sing as trashy lyrics as she typically does in pop, I wouldn't want to enunciate anything either. But she's clearly worked on it to get crisp diction back. She and Erivo are going to sound amazing. I don't know anything about the director or the editors, so I can't say how that final cut of the performances will be, but I know they'll give it their all. Very much looking forward to hearing these two on this score. (Also: the runs and riffs Grande loves to do really do have similarities to coloratura runs in opera arias. With as solid as her technique is, I doubt she's like Adelina Patti - never thinking of what she's doing - and could learn full operatic technique if she wanted. Would love to hear her sing the Doll Song from Les Contes d'Hoffmann, actually.)

The conversation about the E vowel was interesting bc I only ever had musical theater training and that is how you do all the vowels. I remember watching someone get coached on that part in class and they explained how to "pull out" the vowel exactly how she sings it. I would be interested in you explaining how a more pop modification would sound? I don't even sing anymore it's just fascinating af.

Quick tidbit about the clip in the beginning where she was singing with the older guy? That was at a radio show out of Dallas call Kidd Kraddick in the Morning. They told the show that morning Ariana wasn't going to sing so the host, Kidd, knew she lived Wicked so he was hoping he could get her to singalong with him. And it worked!!! Kidd passed away in 2013 but the radio show is still on with the remaining hosts.

On tik tok I used the term “opera” instead of “classical style” of singing and she flipped out on me. I was trying to explain to her that this guy was singing with the opera style for a musical theater piece and she kept saying he’s not (there was another video of him singing in a pop style and he didn’t sound like how he did in the video). We kept going back and forth but she refused to believe me because she had a masters degree in vocal performance and claims she knows more. I just stopped replying when she said I was “mansplaining”
