I think the great thing about Florence is that when she is interviewed on a talk show she is SO SOFT-SPOKEN and seems shy, but when she sings on stage she becomes POWERFUL with her voice! Like a Yin/Yang- harmony of opposites that works for Florence! Amazing artist!

I feel like Florence has REEEAALLLY found amazing ways to tweak and control her voice. She's always been a powerhouse but not she seems in control of that power. Aging can be a wonderful thing when we care for ourselves properly. I feel Taylor Swift has done the same thing. Obviously she has a very different voice to Flo but she's gained a control and an understanding of her voice that really shows her growth.

This new album was a lot of vocal fry in it. The album is like she said "let's make a trademark Florence album but up the creep factor." Daffodil is the best atmospheric song she's done imo.

At some point it would be great if you could react to Florences other new songs. "Heaven is Here" is way to short but so different from mainstream music and has some interesting vocal choises. And "Free" deals with anxiety brilliantly and has one of the best music videos this year so far.
@63rdwho2 жыл бұрын
I am loving Florence's new songs and can't wait to receive my copy of her new album. This song, and also "Heaven" and "Free" are all the more poignant at the moment as they were all filmed in Kyiv, Ukraine in November 2021. It's possible that some of the locations may have changed somewhat since the invasion.

Feel like for the most part this video is understated yet visually stunning at key parts... i love the video... can also listen on radio and still be swept away tho..i genuinely think king may be her best work... it's a powerful mature example of a singer who's at the peak of their prowess... i love all her music tbh.. king tho i feel is her Picasso moment.. its structured so perfectly.

Also, that "drag me by the hair and go on with the show" line is a reference to the song "Heaven is Here."However, it's also a reference to something that is revealed at the very end of that track. Something very Beautiful and confessional. I think that "Heaven is Here is actually my favorite track on the album because of that one line which is referenced at the end of this song as well. Really interesting connecting a few dots I've wondered about for several years. She is a fantastic lyricist on top of all of her other talents. Blown away by this album. Usually, with albums that are considered to be classics, it is pretty difficult to pick a favorite song. I would say this album has reached that status and I also think that the "no favorite song/all are my favorite song" sentiment rings pretty true in this case.

Hi, love your reactions. I don't know if i missed it or not, but I am surprised you haven't reacted to Boyz ii Men. They did so much to bring acapella to the forefront again, and were part of a movement in the R&B, pop culture. A lot of African American vocal groups sprung from this.

Her tone kind of reminds me of Johnette Napolitano of Concrete Blonde. You should definitely check them out if you haven't!

Omg it's surely similar! i didn't knew Concrete Blonde til now, thanks for the indication
@RomonicaDiGregory2 жыл бұрын
It's interesting to make that comparison! I think Johnette has a darker, rounder tone to her voice, and I think she tends to have more of a chesty/mix-y resonance and Flo has like a lighter, almost knifes-edge tone to her vibrato but I still think I see the links!

Took a lot of times listening to this song before I understood it, at least to have a strong interpretation. I think the song is sung from the perspective of Florence’s vision of herself as an artist. The argument in the kitchen isn’t between her and a partner but an internal dialogue between herself and the woman she always aspired to be. Her aspirations are telling her what she needs to do to become what she aspires to while also defining what that is.

She uses king because she is in direct conflict with men in the video. She kills the one who wouldn't be subservient, spared the one who was, and the musicians at the end were under some sort of spell it seemed. The women were her followers, like a covenant of witches almost. At the end the man becomes subservient... If she used queen instead, she wouldn't be in direct conflict with men but with women. That's my take.

I love Flo, she's definitely my favorite vocalist but as a non-native speaker I sometimes find it difficult to understand what she's singing and I have a feeling that her diction could have been better. Is it only my feeling? I don't have that with other vocalist. Maybe it's because I work with people from the US so I'm used to a different accent, idk.

Another good one is Olvidame y pega la vuelta from a brother and sister duo called Pimpinela.
