The other thing to consider is that the genius interviews aren’t just live, there’s no music, and singing without music feels very different than singing live. It’s easier to stay in key when the music is there to remind you what key you’re in. If these people have never sung these songs without music before, it’s not super surprising that they’re struggling with the key / pitch, especially if they aren’t super skilled singers.

Professional singers should know their songs well enough to stay on pitch without music, but that takes practice and based on the way fame works not all of these people are at that level. I’m merely pointing out how the genius interviews are different than any other live performance because there’s no music. It doesn’t excuse their inability to do it, it just makes sense of the fact that they struggled without music and yet seem to be able to carry the tune ok in other live performances

One of the important things to realise about the Genius interviews is that it's about breaking down the lyrics more so than the actual vocal performance, so a lot of artists will just very casually sing/rap rather than trying very hard.
