Chills, chills and more chills! Floor has been a fan of Henk since he played the Phantom. She explained that when she heard that he was going to be on the show with her she "fan-girled." In this episode everyone sang to/for Floor. He chose the song because it was a favorite of hers. Everyone on the show just loved "Uncle Henk."

Henk is singing this song for Floor. It was one of the songs she said her father liked to listen to when she was young. Did you notice the little eyebrow raise at the end. His way of saying, "just for you Floor". He had never used distortion before. Henk made the statement that if he ever auditioned for a part and they heard any distortion they would show him the door. He is a great singer. I loved it! So did Floor!

*Henk's distortion* : before he and the other singers flew down (in Spring) to resort Atzaró on Ibiza Island for tv show BesteZangers, Henk Poort learned the distortion vocal technique in Amsterdam within 2 hours with his vocal coaches Alberto ter Doest and Daan Smits. They are certified UVS voice coaches at the Universal Voice Institute in Amsterdam. UVS (Universal Voice system) is a simple and clear system to get the most out of your voice. Quote by Poort: ”If I'd use distortion in my opera repertoire I'd be fired immediately...”

He is one of the most experienced Dutch tenors. Played the lead in Les Miserables, Fiddler on the roof and the Phantom 30 years ago. His wife is also a famous musical actress an actress in a long running soap opera.

Thank you Georgina. This performance always gives me goosebumps. Henk was very very nervous to do this song. It was Floor's turn in the spotlight so everyone sang a song that's important to her. Floor didn't help Henk with this song, he went to his vocal coach and learned distortion in just 2 hours. Floor is proud because she's been a fan of Henk since she was 12, and he's learned to sing with distortion especially for her. No wonder she's delighted! The other blond singer is Samantha Steenwijk. Maybe you can do a reaction to her singing too. She's had no training, just a lady who was a finalist in The Voice of Holland. Thanks for your honest and professional reaction!

Henk has a realy thick amsterdam dialect , when speaking dutch ,he also had only 2 hrs to practice this version of the song and learn distortion but he can sing in a multitude of languages and mimick most of english dialects, in the course of this show he sings several songs in different languages and styles.

By the time this performance happend they had spent a lot of time together and he was their "Uncle Henk", so they were proud of him. I think they were focussed on Floor's reaction because it was her week to be sung to, it was his song for her, in the style of a cover by a rock band. The older blond lady is Samantha Steenwijk. Floor covered one of her songs when it was her week to sing to.

When Henk sings, he takes you on a journey of story telling, emotions and utter bliss, this man is a force of (musical) nature. I love how the jaws drop, of pretty much each and every reactor on KZbin, who hears this the first time. While i love the version Disturbed did, i did not have that jaw drop, the first time i heard their version, not like i had with Henk, Henk had me almost break my jaw... so to speak hehehe. Henk grabs you in a split second, he has you the moment he opens his mouth and starts to sing, if there was ever a male equivalent to the Mythological Siren of folklore stories, then it has to be Henk. Ty for the lovely reaction to one of our most beloved singers :)

@Deep He probably takes well care of his voice and body. if you live a healthy life the voice also stay in shape longer. Watch Mick Hucknall (Simply Red), his voice is also still on spot. Using drugs or drink or smoke a lot will, imo, have a serious impact on the voice. So getting older doen't always mean your voice is going down.

The blond lady is samantha steenwijk (stainwyke pronounced) she is a dutch folk singer( finalist last years tvoh and winner of dutch dancing with the stars-> with a broken toe!) im not into dutch music but she is a lovely character ..floor rightly sayd she lights up the room...funny to see the more than an houre livechat the two friends had back in august.....if you wanna see or comment on samantha i recommend the song way i do she performed for tim akkerman( former singer of direct)... I know that I am 10 months late to the party, but I don't see anybody commenting that Henk is singing the Disturbed version of this song. And he does acquit himself well. But Disturbed didn't just do a cover of the Simon and Garfunkel version, the completely reimagined the song and made it completely their own (very much like when Gary Jules took the Tears for Fears song "Mad World" and reimagined it so much that it became much more than the original and everybody started doing covers of Gary's version). So if you like this cover of the Disturbed's version, you owe it to yourself to watch Disturbed do it themselves. People have already said it, but Floor is a big fan of Henk, and during the whole season, each time he went to sing, of course she was in fangirl mode. She really looks up to him. It is really cute. Great! I love it! BTW The point of the show is in part the reactions of the artists being sung to. So the singers don't know what is going to happen. So Floor didn't help Henk Poort with his false vocal fold distortion, he got a lesson for that. The singers choose and prepare the songs months in advance for everything to be recorded in 4 nights in Ibiza.

As a student of several languages, I noticed the slight accent almost immediately, but I feel it added to the beauty of the performance. As for comparisons to other artists, I think both Disturbed and Simon & Garfunkel's renditions have great merit, but which of the three versions is "better"? It's unimportant and and irrelevant; they are all moving in their own way.

About his accent: for most people who have English as their 2nd language, it is hard to switch. I'm fluent in English, but my accent gets worse when I need to switch. The talking in-between the songs is in Dutch; that makes it harder. When Seth Meyers interviewed Arjen Lubach in English (kzbin.info/www/bejne/bnXaiHuVhs6CjNE), all went well until Arjen named the Dutch city Enschede (around 3:33). He continued the interview in Dutch without being aware of it.

Those who have seen him in the countless musicals he's done, have heard him cross over using other aspects of his voice. Not so pronounced, but given that he had to act and play the part, he certainly did explore distortion for example when he was "angry" in his role.
