Merry Christmas, Beth! Back when this was recorded, Chris took over the bassline when Tim was the lead. Nowadays, it's (Adam) Chance. Both men have great range.
@DougRayPhillips2 жыл бұрын
Chris Rupp does have a wide range, and displays it (for instance) on his recording of Amazing Grace on his own YT channel. However, Chris himself reviewed and reacted to this Home Free recording on his own channel last week. And he acknowledged that, altho he would do the baseline when they performed this live, Tim double-tracked it on this recording. "Because he's bassier than I am." That admission is about two minutes in, in the vid linked below. I was kind of disappointed to learn that, and now I wonder how many of their OTHER old recordings have "fake Chris". kzbin.info/www/bejne/ipXZdYuirZKJndk
@friedemannkemm632 жыл бұрын
The difference is that Chris only did it in live shows, while Chance also does it on the recordings. Before, Tim was double tracked on the studio recordings. At least that's what I learned from one of Chris's videos.
@roberthudson19592 жыл бұрын
Rupp's range is from G#1-G#5, while Chance's goes from F1-F5. Despite the virtually identical ranges, Rupp is more comfortable at the top of his range and Chance prefers to be at the bottom of his range.

@@DougRayPhillips Chris has said before that All About That Bass is the only Home Free song where he ever took over the bass line during Tim's solo in the studio recording. Every other time they just double tracked Tim on the bass part.

Merry Christmas Beth. Another wonderful reaction video to my favorite Christmas Carol. It is so refreshing to see the emotions you show whenever you do reactions. Your knowledge of music and how it is vocally produced is quite extraordinary. You do choke up this old man to see the love you have for music and shows the beautiful inner beauty you have. May you have the best this crazy world has to offer. I always look forward to your reactions. Robert from Texas!

I do believe that you're right with this particular song as recorded. Tim sounds double tracked when he's doing the opening melody line. It looks like Chris is singing in the tenor 2 range when it shows him during Tim's opening part. Chris is capable of singing the bass line in that particular song, but due to his higher voice type, he doesn't have the resonance needed to carry the rest of the chord structure in the deep part of his range on this song. He does well in the beginning of Do You Hear What I Hear. This is probably mainly due to the fact that the beginning is a lot of humming and oo vowels. There isn't much resonance in those naturally, so it works for that song.

@MarineSgt5 ай бұрын
Austin Brown isnt a featured singer hes their lead/high tenor...I agree that hes one of the greatest singers ive ever heard but hes not a featured singer. Hes just basically their lead and of course Tim ...Rob has a great lead voice just not as pure as Austins. What seperates Chance (replaced Chris) is he has more vocal range. Im sorry if people or other Home Fries disagree...we still family.

I don't know the technical term for when each singer sings a note separately to make a chord, sort of like handbells do. You mentioned that it was used extensively by The Beach Boys, but it happened in many of my late father's favourites from the Korean War era. Probably the most iconic song that features the bell tone chords is Mr. Sandman by The Chordettes. There is a llive version on KZbin from 1958 that you may want to check out. If they could have gotten Adam Rupp to back them up, it would have sounded awesome.

Hope you had a very Merry Christmas and will have a Happy and Prosperous New Year. Of course you know that Tim has the range to go from a speaker blowing low to a relatively high tenor. To me, Adam Chance has a better natural baritone voice with better range than Chris Rupp had. Chance can take over the bass line without any trouble when Tim is singing something else. Of course, just my opinion and I have no formal voice training.

Not exactly vocal fry or subharmonics. I am a bass singer. This is more an incidental activation of the false vocal folds while singing baritone for a bass singer. We croak when trying to stay out of our bass range, all while singing above it.
@DyvmSlorm2 жыл бұрын
Tim's mid bass range (which is what I would consider those notes for Tim) is so full. His slide in and out when near his mid base range are so full and smooth and, yes, almost incidental. I believe his chest range extends below those notes and only then will he actually growl but that's something to hear and even more amazing to experience live (pants shake and you can feel it in your chest).

Now those low rattles on Tim’s voice is natural. Just listen to him speak. It’s there all the time. Now the guy who sings bass for PTX, does not have that low rattle when he speaks. He can sing bass but he is not a natural bass. I am going to go find a video that has no singing, but you can hear the speaking voice of JD Sumner, who is one of the worlds lowest bass singers. Or I should say was. He is not with us any longer. He speaks lower than most bass singers can sing. He is a natural bass. No need to react, but just listen to JD Sumner talk. He also used to be Elvis’s bass singer. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iZWsnaqVfdiEeNU
