Yeah his first band he was in was metal and he used to have lots of dildos on stage with him lol. I am not joking. His father was a famous musician he barely saw. His first band was nothing like his music of later years. Great musician but he would of done anything to be famous. It wasnt his first attempt and he didnt care what he made it for.

@@natashagoode501 Wouldn't surprise me, I love how he often for whatever reason opened the songs on guitar as if he camouflaged what song it was. You could got 30sec or more into a song and THEN he went into the actual intro.

Yeah but the guitar parts under the singing is dead simple in the verse/chorus and only slightly more difficult during the pre-chorus/bridge. His vocals are outstanding, but the addition of these guitar parts doesn't add any extra value. In fact, I'd wager it'd be harder for him to sing this stuff without a guitar in his hands.

@radioethiopiate9327
@radioethiopiate9327 5 жыл бұрын
Eh? For real though, the guitar parts are simple as fuck, but tasty - and on purpose. He's giving himself room to move vocally. And guys who are guitar players first have an easier time singing with a guitar in their hands than they do a capella. I ain't hating, I just don't fully agree with your enthusiasm.
@TanguyBlanchard
@TanguyBlanchard 5 жыл бұрын
Dale Noble of course it’s easier without a guitar. Do you think he had an unplugged guitar with him in the studio while recording the vocals or something? What are you saying? What is ‘it adds no value’ supposed to mean?

Dale Noble can you sing as good as him? I can understand an average singer playing guitar but a guy like this can do better without a guitar because he is a better singer than a guitar player

This has to be his best performance of Grace. Before the start of this performance, the announcer associates and compares him with his father Tim Buckley, who abandoned Jeff. They only met once, and Jeff was forever compared and overshadowed by his fathers legacy during his lifetime. He flips two big birds when this is mentioned behind the announcer! I believe he took this as a moment to give it everything he had, and use the anger suddenly brought up by the comparison to his father to try to put the naysayers in their proper place.

Yeah, people always go on about his voice which undoubtedly was ridiculously brilliant, but understate just how great a lot of his guitar-work was, I've learned a few of his songs, "Lover you should have come over" being one I come back to time and again...I can PLAY that song quite comfortably, but even thinking of singing while playing all the flitty suspended and over chords necessary to make it worth listening to is just way, WAY out of my wheelhouse. The progression is relatively simple, a D into a Cadd9 to an Em sort of thing but Jeff is constantly fluctuating around within those chords to add character, the D is hammering from a standard to a Dsus or Dsus6...the Em is using his upper strings to flit into Em9, Emadd9 and so on, it's never just one chord with the guy, he'll flit around into three or four variations to paint a musical picture. I can play it readily enough now (after quite a long time practicing) but his pulling that off and then singing with the melismatic , floaty brilliance he brings to his performances is just unreal. Guy was an unparalleled singer, a REALLY good guitarist and an absolutely peerless songwriter...

Good on you for covering him Beth. It's hard not to feel a pang of indignation, even now, that his life was extinguished in the ascendance of his genius. Such a beautiful man, with a beautiful spirit. And in his singing - is this far-fetched? - he is like Damish's American cousin. There aren't many artists that merit the comparison, but Jeff Buckley has that same facility with his voice, and the courage. A son of famous musicians too. Perhaps that extreme musicality is something bred and nurtured from an early age. Rufus Wainwright would be another example.

There's so much going on engage the listener, that's what makes it a timeless classic. His vocal styling, the incredible guitar work and his stunning looks. I love her comments on the piece especially towards the end, it's brave. Yes he was.

nothing ugly about pain passion love and hurt and a smidgen of Anger, i would call it raw emotion dynamic expressive free spirited vocals, his falsetto's taking him around a massive sliding note r range truly unique

You should listen to Corpus Christ Carol, his voice is operatic. Also his father Tim Buckley was also a musician, Song to the Siren is a great song of his.

@FIsto 96, I think the least jeff buckley wanted, was to be reminded of his dad.

Great to see a youngster feeling the deep emotions of the mighty chords, lyrics and voice of the one and only JB. Real music from the heart is so much better isn’t it?

I just love your description of this. Ken Tamplin described it perfectly (in my opinion) when describing this same clip. “It’s not about the perfection, it’s about the passion”. Some artists get sick of performing the same songs over and over and tend to get a bit ‘lazy’. Not so with Jeff. Any time he had an audience he would put his everything, heart and soul into that performance. His breath control was something else!

It all started with Jeff's dad, Tim Buckley - who was one of my faves back in the 70s!!!! I loved 'Sweet Surrender' and 'Get on top of me Woman'. Going to listen to both now and feel nostalgic! 😍❤
