I think the reason why he is the most successful Spanish speaking singer of all time, is, not only the professional quality of his productions, but also the fact that, although he’s not the best singer around, he is the best using his expressive range, specially to evoke sadness, melancholy, romanticism, and nostalgia. He really knows how to hit that nail.

He may not have the BIGGEST voice around, but he certainly is one of the best singers ever to have graced popular music. Julio Iglesias is one of the most successful artists to ever exist on the planet. He has sold over 300 million records and has 2,600 gold and platinum discs and is the most successful Spanish-speaking singer of all time. He is in the Guinness book of World records, at one time having sold more records than any other singer, and for having sung in more languages than any other singer. Julio is a romantic, and his style is almost minimalist, but his phrasing, his perfect pitch, his melodious tones and innate ability to express what he is FEELING about what he is saying, is what makes him great. His voice, though light, is very appealing and attractive in its timbre and never grating to the ear. Ever. His songs will remain forever and as proof of that, he is in a handful of singers who continue to actually sell their albums to younger generations - ABBA, Neil Diamond, being the other two main ones. There is also Elvis and Elton and possibly a few others. And… over any other singer, popular or operatic, only Julio Iglesias can draw out the emotions he can, the way he lingers in syllables and words. That is his alone. He remains the most sensitive singer to cross our paths, the next closest being his countryman, tenor Jose Carreras. So, no. Julio Iglesias is one of the best singers around.

I'm a 90's kid, and my mother used to put a tape with his songs on when I was going to bed. Thanks to her I still can sing along to some of his songs without knowing any Spanish or Portugese :) His caressing tone really makes you feel loved and it is perfect to gently drift asleep to. In the States, he is best known for his duet with Willie Nelson of "To All the Girls I've Loved Before" It was all over country music radio, went to number one on the country charts and I believe it won awards from both the CMA (Country Music Association) and ACM (Academy of Country Music). So as odd as it might sound, here a lot of people associate him with country music.

He has been one of my favorites for decades. His singing is so moving, romantic. I had several of his LPs in the mid-1980s. You should check out his "Abracame" (I think he has a Spanish and a Portuguese version).

He's known for his vibrato, but I was listening here for any straight tones and I heard perhaps half of his notes with no vibrato. That's one of his secrets. As you say, he does not "over do" anything.

I had no idea what a fabulous singer he was. Ha ha. Thank you for making this video. He surprised me with his raspy voice toward the end and his wailing away. I thought he would keep it simple and subtle. There’s obviously a lot of tools in his toolbox. I love his playing with dynamics as well, and his phrasing and the way he would pitch some of his notes higher.

My favourite song by him is 'La carretera'. It's sad but so beautiful and touching! Could u react to these two amazing artists singing together the song 'Arrancame live/directo'?
