To me it's obvious it's a volcanic type beach on New Zealand but without the black sand- the sand still didn't look as white as Australian Beach sand (already telling me it was filmed on a small island possibly volcanic in origin as it does look a bit dirty/greyish like it has volcanic residues in it) and certainly not as white as the silica parrot fish poo sand of Whitehaven Island so that's why I was betting on New Zealand. I've been to Tai Tapu and the nearby shoreline to Akaroa and it really reminded me of the smaller enclosed beaches there- though I recall those as black volcanic sand.

I think the album is going to be darker than we think. Lorde has always been very performative. Look how everyone behind her never smiles. And they're not dancing, more like freaking out. All while Lorde is the only one who looks happy. So perhaps this will be moreso about embracing madness and letting that fuel you and thus becoming your own source of power - your solar power. I feel there is more symbolism to this than what ppl are commenting on.

I think it's up on the air. Listening to Stoned at the Nail Salon, it sounds like another healing album after a very dark album (which was one of my favorite albums from a pop or alternative artist), but both songs could turn the other way in the context of the album. Interested to see where the album takes us.

Also, I absolutely love this song and this evolution for Lorde! We first met her as a gothy 16 year old who felt awkward and uncomfortable, went through heartbreak and sung about being a liability while desperately searching for perfect places, and now she's grown into this beautiful young woman who is just radiating joy and positivity. Perfect summer vibes! So good. And yet again, something *different*

She said solar power is only one side of the album, and in this MV, Lorde is the leader of a cult. She is worshipped, she is compared to Jesus, the adherents are sad and seem on mushrooms/drugs. So I think the album may turns dark! She'll probably talk about global warming, important issues, and show us we are blind and manipulated in this society!! She is a genius!!! Can't wait for the album ☀️

I’ve been a fan of hers from the beginning, and I adore this new sound for her. Her development as an artist is documented in each album, and I believe this is a continuation from Melodrama - overcoming heartbreak and adversity, and basking in the positive aspects of life.
@sierrastar51553 жыл бұрын
She presents each era of her life perfectly with her music while still staying true enough to her sound/production style but bringing different elements in each time. Not a lot of artists can reinvent themselves like lorde each era while still easily being able to tell the music is theirs. She’s incredible.
@lucasmyers70483 жыл бұрын
Honestly, her playing with the form is what makes this so delicious. The fact that we don't get a hook until the end is....stunning. It's not that she merely delays the hook, but she makes the hook worth waiting for. I'm convinced that "A Girl Worth Fighting For" was looking ahead to this hook. Seriously.....This girl made us wait 70% of the song to hear the title of the track, and it was the most satisfying thing I've heard musically in the mainstream pop world in a bit. Well done!

I think it's a wonderfully sung track and very atmospheric. I love it and it's absolute pure joy to hear the lyrics "I hate the winter" going into a gorgeous feel-good song. Anyone who's ever had S.A.D. will know exactly how it feels. You can be passionate about the environment but still find it such a hard time in the dark and cold. Lorde is clearly somebody who sees the environment as very important, but also feels very human feelings in the dark and cold days. I find it fantastically relatable, and I think its brilliant she opened her song with such honesty and made it a feel good track which will not just be a summer anthem but will brighten our days every winter for years to come.

The video was filmed in New Zealand, on a beach at Waiheke Island. It’s a beautiful spot just a short ferry ride across the harbour from Auckland. It’s a shame you didn’t include the piece of the song when, in the chorus, Ella soars up the octave to make a really ethereal harmonic sound. (Soh-Oh-Oh-Ohhh-ler power). In my opinion this is the best thing she has ever released. The world definitely needs uplifting, peaceful and beautiful music like this at the moment.

Also, I’ve just listened to her latest track: ‘ Stoned at the nail salon.’ I had heard that it was a return to the darker more melancholic sound that we had become accustomed to from Ella. I wasn’t too keen on listening to the song based on that feedback but Oh My God! What a beautiful song! Very personal lyrics and just a gorgeous melody. She is clearly intent on using a lot of layered harmonies on the new album because they are there in spades on this new single. There is a video on KZbin of her performing it live on Seth Meyers’ show in the US. Check it out Georgina; I would love to hear what you think!

I really love this song. I agree it has a 60's hippy vibe, I thought then when I first heard it, especially towards the end. It reminds me of the musical Hair and the song Let The Sunshine In. I'm so glad Lorde is back making music, it's been a long time! :)

"So 60's isn't it" ... No. it's just very much 90's. It is so much like Freedom with Georg Michael which is super 90's. And especially this element that you are referring to when the drums kick in. It's identical to Freedom. You should know you are old enough to remember.
