for every rude moment (and there's few), there's ten times worse by other artists, but they're excused because "oh, she's just being cher", or "hahahaha gaga just being silly". people just hate it when an artist is a real artist.. when they see a woman of 60 still being herself and not doing what society wants her to do. and no, she's not notorious for cutting her sets short and doesn't lip synch. you're a typical hater who only hears what they wanna hear. I bet you love politically correct and safe lady gaga or beyonce, who do what the media wants them to do @Carolina PFan
@virtualjonathan5 жыл бұрын
But if she were a guy being rude, crude and vulgar it would be A-OK, I'm sure. I've been a die hard since '84, so I'll bring some of her comments to light again. As far as her gigs being late, I am certain it didn't only apply to the Blond Ambition Tour, but in Truth Or Dare she explains that things " things f**** up, and boy did they". Her shows are so elaborate and intricate that all the working parts have to be, well working, or someone could get seriously injured. I've worked in production and am familiar with how badly things can go off the rails and quick too.There are times when an artist has to cut their set in order to accommodate for time. The contract with the venue may dictate what time the show has to be over, local ordinances may have an influence (such as noise and crowd control ordinances), the city may even have an influence as to when the show HAS to be over. Not by her or any other artist doing. She's quite the perfectionist and as was stated "whatever she does, she wants to do to the best of her ability." Pricing! I agree 100%, they are bloody outrageous! However, she only sees a percentage of that and doesn't set the prices. We have American Express, Live Nation/Ticketmaster, Stub Hub, Citi and everyone else who snatches up tons of seats and then brokers them out to us. I've been to several "sold out" shows only to find the venue about 85% to 90% "full." It's a horrible and unfair practice but we have to roll with the punches. As she has tried to justify, "people spend money on useless things everyday." I can't tell you the number of times I've gone in to a store to get bread, eggs and milk only to come out $80 later with things I think I "need". Lastly, lip-syncing. I have two thoughts on that: first, you move like that at over 60 years of age, have several costume changes, sing (live) 18 to 21 songs without missing a beat and not sounding out of breath and I WILL gladly hand over $300 to $600 to you. As she put it, she's a performer, you're paying to see her perform, while singing is a part of it, we can't expect every second of it to be live until she sits on a stool and plays guitar and serenades us for 2 hours. Then we would be griping at how boring a show she puts on and what a waste THAT is.

Here's the thing: let's remove the words "Madonna" and "singer" from this and consider perhaps an athlete who isn't the very most naturally / physically gifted right at the start of her career, but through grit, determination, ambition and a willingness to work on the technical aspects (with multiple various expert coaches), improves and comes to not only achieve success but to dominate her sport for several decades, inspire generations of those that follow and reveal herself to have actual talent and a place in history. We'd all be lauding that athlete as one of the greatest of all time. So what's different here, just because she's a singer? (I know she's not "just" a singer, but that's what her primary role is) Inconsistent, for sure. Sometimes awful live - yes, but often very decent and sometimes (as shown in this video) really very, very good. She's many things, but you have to admire the journey she's been on since that baby girl / Minnie Mouse on helium voice to someone who can do the musical theatre voice and many other types. Underrated and probably won't be fully appreciated until she's gone. Great video, by the way. Congratulations.

She has two carriers, one, when she was mainstream up until Ray of Light, and after that, when she became a Niche artist for rave/techno music. A totally different audience. For me it fell out of public grace with the covers, the samples, and the duets. I guess many people feel that she should have retired for a while until she could get really good material, like she used to when she was mainstream.

To the original poster, you are VERY HONEST in your take and I appreciate this and agree with you! That's the point that most are trying to make, not bashing Madonna, but her fans are acting like Beyonce's Beyhive! Stop swarming guys! There's no disputing she has changed like a chameleon and adapted to the changes in the music industry for decades and decades, from 80's into the 90's, into the 2000's and into today, did movies, other ventures, remained relevant very well. It's not easy to remain relevant even for the best vocalists, like Mariah Carey, bc the youngsters don't know these singers legacies and weren't around when they were in their prime for decades! I also think the younger generation has different musical standards and a different style, and the requirement for an artist to be able to sing & have vocal ability is not important anymore - just the way they look, creative lyrics w catchy hooks and melodies, cute outfits, radio play, and dancing. You speak truth in saying that Mad has never ever tried to be or been a great vocalist and has never claimed to be (to my knowledge!) but it's her work ethics, drive, abilities to write and produce music, play multiple musical instruments, dance and do choreo, and write songs that adapt to current times. Icons possess this and ingenuity, perserverance, not giving up, etc. 100% agreed. Still, she is definately an icon, there is no disputing that! Same for singers like Janet Jackson - not the BEST vocalist, not the worst but she has other talents and the ability to adapt, and is an ICON, although I believe she took a personal sabbatical over the last recent years and moved over seas to another country, had a relationship, got married to a man from the Middle East, had children, and wanted a break from music and fame, living somewhat of a normal life in another country, especially after Michael was murdered by his doctor and passed away so tragically and suddenly and all the media coverage and obsession of that forever afterwards.
@LeaRNing2b15 жыл бұрын
@@badideabearcub2747 When you say she has 2 carriers, you mean 2 main things that caused her to "go off track", so to speak? If so, I would agree with what you said. Trying to do the techno thing was great for 1 or 2 songs but no more and I miss her singing with actual ability and singing higher. I'm guessing she smokes cigarettes and cant go high anymore. That's what's happening to me. I've lost most of my upper range.

A lot would say that Madonna is not a good singer but a performer. When Madonna played the role of Evita Peron, that was the time when the real quality of her voice emerged. This was the same back in the 90s when she played Breathless Mahoney in the Dick Tracey Movie and did the movie inspired album “I’m Breathless” where she did some “Growling” like what Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey does. The “Growling was evident on her “Blond Ambition Tour” and on her single “Rescue Me” from her firs ever compilation hits “The Immaculate Collection”. For me, Madonna is the only singer who could not only reinvent her looks but her voice as well. By the way Honest Coach, you should have also included her “Who’s that Girl Concert” because this is when her voice sounded big, raspy, deep, matured and loud. This was the era I as a Loyal Madonna Fan forever has observed her changed her voice from a baby to an adult. Excellent review Honest Vocal Coach 👍

Madonna is such a tremendous artist/performer. Icon and legend. She may not be the best singer, but she is awesome in performing and building on of the best careers in music history!!!!

One thing I definitely credit Madonna for is that despite whatever limitations she had vocally she wasn't afraid of a live mic.

As a long time/huge Madonna fan I want to say thank you so much for this video review. Although you're also a Madonna fan you were able to point out her strengths and areas of improvement. I thought your feedback was well balanced and constructive. I liked how you demonstrated the reason why she failed to hit he proper note(s) and then showed what she needed to do. You have such a warm personality and I look forward to viewing more of your videos.

She is a very, very good singer despite what some people say and, you know what, she has 3.2octaves live and holds a note for 17 secs... That's a LOT!
@fomalhauto5 жыл бұрын
I always thought she was a good singer since she first came out....especially Borderline I think some people compare her too much to Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey who are much better singers, but Madonna far better as an overall entertainer. She's very good singer She has versatility. She can put in a lot of emotion in her singing and bring out a lot of emotion in others she's talented imho

People say Madonna's not a great singer but I think she's always had a great tone. Her vocal style has changed a lot over the years. I always liked her throaty rock chick vocals of the True Blue/Like A Prayer era as well as the super shiny Evita/Ray of Light voice that she still sings in now.

Although I love some of her earlier songs, ie; Oh Father, Live To Tell, Crazy For You, Papa Don’t Preach, True Blue, and as much as I liked her gritty and emotive tonality, I think I love most Madonna’s tone 1990-1995 era. That said, you can hear the improvements in her control, and resonance in her later days. The lessons have paid off for her to preserve and keep her voice until a ripe old age. 1990-1995 Rain, You’ll See, Secret, Take A Bow, I’ll Remember, Forbidden Love, One More Chance. I think “Something to Remember” is my favorite album of hers. Also Bedtime Stories

I just stumbled upon this video after watching some older Madonna videos since she has new music out. I’m a huge fan. So, first of all, you are such a JOY. So many people love to criticize Madonna but you’re so sweet when you offer analysis of her performance and never make it ‘negative’. The look in eyes and on your face when she knocks it off the park is one of such happiness - like you’re rooting for her. You look so pleased. It’s so joyful. Thank you so much for this video. Seeing you celebrate her performances and acknowledging her strengths and weakness brought a smile to my face.

I clicked as soon as I saw Madonna’s name on it❤️ Thank you Georgina for this, I am hooked on your videos now. You clearly did Madonna justice and respected her legend so much💯 People seem to sometimes forget why she is The Queen, but her emotional delivery is so flexible and filled with tones of sensitivity. Amazing, simply unique. Please consider another amazing vocalist for your future videos, the one and only Tori Amos. And do find Madonna’s brilliant Brit Awards performance.
