Marcelito's story is nearly as amazing as his voice. His mother rejected him at birth and custody was given to his father (they had separated), unfortunately his father was serving a lengthy prison sentence, so little baby Marcelito spent the first 2 years of his life in prison with his father. He was then adopted by a prison guard, but it was not a happy childhood and at 9 years old he discovered they were not his real parents and he ran away. He survived by selling food snacks on the city streets. He says he learnt to sing with two voices (not uncommon in the Philippines) as a way to combat the loneliness. He earned extra by singing in bars and cafe's. He met a girl, fell in love and they married. They now have a child of their own, and he has been reconciled to his birth father. He entered Philippines Got Talent last year 2016, and of course won it hands down. He has turned his life around and I am so happy for him.

His mother abandoned him at age 7 (while his father was in prison) and he grew up alone on the streets. No mention of being adopted or running away from an adoptive home. He was reunited with his father and family at PGT.

Take those headphones off of him and put him in a nice echoy room and he will sing it on a perfect pitch from the beginning till the end. My guess is that he just needed some time to get used to the headphones, that he cannot hear himself live, but only trough the headphones - I have the same issue. It takes some time for the brain to get used to it. If he learned how to sing on his own, then most likely he wasn't using headphones and microphones. later he has no pitch issues till the very end (just few notes then). Watch his face - he can hear very well himself when he is off of the key, because you can see when he is on the note, his face is calm, but when he is pitchy, his eyes go from side to side.

Forgive me for being a grinch #Tara but the guy never had formal voice training. He was living on the street till he joined and became Philippines Got Talent Grand Winner. One thing to consider is his ethnicity (the province where he originated from) creates the tone that in the ears of natives would sound sharp/flat. I suggest watching ELLEN where he guested and you would know how he rose from humble abode. Lastly, for someone who doesn't speak a fluent english he is ABLE to nail the song that even DIVAS couldn't do and perform (they just lip-synced) Especially singing 2 voices at a time.. Kudos to Marcelito Pomoy!
@eddivinagracia14306 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this enlightenment, Bill. And perhaps, even if Marcelito was formally trained, no school could ever train him to sing both as male and female, alternately with such finesse. English is our second language in the Philippines, that has an impact on how some of the Filipino singers place and modify vowels to sound more refined. I still appreciate #Tara for her insights. How I wish Tara could collaborate with Marcelito one day.

Well justified guys,. Anyway there's another singer under my radar for quite sometimes now,namely warren laban and i do enjoy watching him sing, his voice was really insane like it takes a million vioce to find one like his or maybe more, But apparently he also has a very noticeable accent the way he sings and im afraid if ever he catches some attention from reactors, he would suffer lots of critics with his dictions etc just like how i straggle with my english. @adamhiles80626 жыл бұрын
@@ecjjce7315 magic johnson isnt saying anything about tara's ability, he is saying whether or not a singer comes from humble origins is irrelevant to how a vocal coach should judge a performance. Whilst knowing they come from more humble origins does make this more impressive compared to someone like Dimash who has been trained the entirety of his life, it doesn't make it better in finesse/quality, and as a vocal coach Taras job is to make people proficient in singing, judging people technically has nothing to do with their backstory.

Always looking beautiful and always on point Tara! He guested on Ellen Show about a week ago and talked about his real life struggles in the Philippines and sang this song. Now let's talk about the degree of difficulty of what just happened here shall we? lol First off, he's singing LIVE, with just one take...ONE. Then he's sitting down the entire time! Then he switches voices back and forth effortlessly with no time to breathe. While all these are happening he's singing in Italian (which he doesn't speak) and English but his native language is Filipino. To top it all off, HE IS SELF-TAUGHT while being HOMELESS!!! I mean my goodness gracious! Mad Props to this man he truly is a man of determination. Thanks once again for reacting to our requests. More success to your channel.
Exactly...if this were provided to you as a male/female duet, acoustic only, you'd probably give it a good/very good, not great review. But add in the degree of difficulty, which is 25 on a 10 point scale (i.e. how is this even possible???!), and it becomes one of the greatest vocal performances of all time in my opinion.

I'm greatly amazed by Marcelito's talent. It's rare and just a gift to humanity. Ms. Simmons is doing a professional analysis and advice to help Marcelito to improve in a professional setting. Not a reaction from a person in their bedroom, garage,cars etc. We need these advice to help Marcelito reach his full potential. Thank you Ms. Simmons👍

he's singing in two voices and two languages that he isn't fluent in, some of the technical "mistakes" he makes is maybe because he sings his impression of the melody and not the emotion as exactly in the expressed in the lyrics

If marcelito was 5% less from being perfect, and if this madam here will be his vocal coach, for sure he will be complete. Thanks ma'am for your reaction. A real vocal coach.

Really great singer, really great observations. One thing Tara didn't mention, but I know she was thinking, was about the space he creates in his mouth. Especially in classical music, creating space in there for your ah's and ee's creates adds so much to the sound. But this is like dust on the Mona Lisa. Love this guy's voice.

I love it when a vocal coach, and i mean a ‘real vocal coach’ like you would react to these kinds of performances as you would point out to the general listeners the flaws and the things that could have been made better. All the technicalities, and whatnot....llllloooovvve it!!!!

Very good coaching, I love Marcelito, and I hope he already has a vocal coach now. All I know is he just taught himself how to sing. Thank you too for reacting to our local singers here, hope they too can see your videos.

I think the reason he has to struggle with the breathing is to accommodate both parts. If he were doing the male part I'm pretty sure he wouldn't cut his breathing.

Fun fact - the vaste majority of people who had trainings with 'Vocal Coaches' normally not make it very far in TalentShows like THEVoice, Idol, Superstar etc. allover the world. Why? Probably cause our hearts and souls are not interested in (often boring) perfection and theoretical explanations but more in the genuine expression of passion, feelings and emotions. Thats where the magic comes in and enthusiasm rise... Amazing and touching performance of Marcelito. Jeremy :)
@estera41763 жыл бұрын
If you think that it's enough to be passionate and feel every song to communicate with the audience, you're mistaken. You need to learn how to convey those feelings. And that's done through technique. How open the sound, how light or dark or breathy, vocal fry, build-up and so on, all these are tools to make people feel certain emotions. As a singer you can't afford to put your heart on a plate for the public every time. And being too emotional will ruin your control of your voice too. Singing is not just talent. It's sport and science and art combined. Talent needs to be developed to pass a certain level. And among other reasons, my guess is that all these talent shows being so fake, there aren't that many professionals participating, or if they are, they are not that appreciated because they don't have some sad backstories or some magical out of nowhere skills, but they have normal lives and hard work instead, so they are less entertaining and dramatic. That's what these shows care about, drama and views, not so much about talent.

Omg! People keep bringing up his life story, which is amazing, but Tara made this channel to critique voices and help people become better singers. She wasn't trying to disrespect him in anyway she was being honest and giving us pointers.

I agree. But with knowing his background, it adds more to my respect to him. Tara criticize him, and I was like, "I can't even sing to his level." 😂😂 But indeed, I really hoped that after he struggled so much, he would learn to improve himself, maybe from this video.
@Rosannasfriend5 жыл бұрын
I think at the end of the day they just want her to understand he's had little to no training, and keep that in mind while she's critiquing him. They want her to acknowledge that where he's at is incredible despite his lack of training. Cut him a little bit of slack in the things that he isn't doing well.
@Rosannasfriend5 жыл бұрын
It doesn't mean that she shouldn't critique his flaws, but give him a little bit of credit to go with that because of his upbringing.
