For some context Justin, at 3:02 is one of NCT’s newest members Shotaro. He’s Japanese and new to the group and still learning the Korean language (as well as being new to the general scene of recording vocals, tracks,...) so he went with the other member doyoung to watch him record first so that he could get an idea of what he’d be doing and to feel more comfortable👍🏽

I have recorded many times before and it’s true that it’s really weird that they have a backing track playing loud in the studio ´cause then you can’t really take it away when you’re mixing and stuff... Whenever I record I usually have my headphones on but on a single ear so that I can hear myself better (actually it really depends, if I want to feel « closer » to the song I’m recording I keep both my ears covered because then I’m really immersed in my own voice, if that makes sense)

I sang with a mic in front of me once with my school choir in 2 years ago at the end of the year, in front of the students and their parents. I had a solo, and also a duet with a girl of my school choir. I was so anxious and I also had to practice with her to learn to not be too near the mic when we were singing higher for the chorus. Because the verses were lower then the chorus, so when we sang lower, we could be near the mic. It was a fabulous experience for me, it went well, and I would love to do it again. Even if there’s no choir in my current high school 🥲. We do have a music club, but it’s always during my classes, so I can’t go...
