Well we are disappointed because we were not allowed to express our opinion on who will represent us at Eurovision. Many other European countries actually hold public competitions and secondly the song is quite basic it’s nothing cultural so it won’t win.
@Craigy281810 ай бұрын
It's a serviceable song but that's all. Personally, I think it's because it's trying too hard to fit some early 2000s style Eurovision song. Also, it's trying too hard to go for a mid-European sounding chord progression and we never get anywhere when we attempt to replicate sounds. Not only that but the song doesn't really pack a punch or go anywhere... It just sounds the same, the whole way through. There's nothing about it that stands out or gives us any "OMG" kind of reaction. The ONLY thing that could help is dependent on his staging, camera work and lighting... But we still won't win.
@sebastian010710 ай бұрын
@@Craigy2818 There, you've sad it: the chord progression is to blame; it's descending, which (to me) makes it sound rather whiny, or boring. It certainly does not built up to some real 'tension' or climax.

It's always a pleasure to hear your comments. I can't wait to hear your reaction to the entry from the Netherlands. YOU'LL BE AMAZED! The song was written and performed by Joost Klein. He is a great artist in the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Austria, among others. The song seems political but that's certainly not the case. Around the age of 13, he lost both his parents in a short period of time. His father (dad) told him that the world has no boundaries and that when he grows up he should go out into the wide world. He makes that journey in the video. As a child, he had promised his parents that he would one day perform at the Eurovision Song Contest. Through various therapies, he is now ready to burn off the bored things from his past and follow his father's advice.

To be honest, I really don't like most of the bookies' favourites this year, maybe except Italy, Switzerland and the Netherlands. So perhaps Olly can do better than expected. I certainly think he has top10 potential.
@itxcrazybear543210 ай бұрын
@@bachelierdrole I feel the same too. I think Olly definitely does have top 10 potential, but with amazing vocals (which he does have judging from him performing this live last week), an amazing stage performance (Olly did say he wants to do something memorable, and also had a spinning stage when he performed this on Ant and Dec) and a few touches to the song (which has been hinted at by both Olly and the producer), he could possibly even get top 5. Can he win? Eh, he has quite low chances but he potentially can if he gets VERY, VERY lucky on the night. I also love Italy, Switzerland and Netherlands, but I can see Switzerland possibly not doing as great as expected (the song seems very complex to sing live, but we'll just have to wait and see). I feel like if Olly accomplishes all these things, he will definitely get very high on the leaderboard. It's like with Sam Ryder, not many people expected him to get as high as 2nd place, but even he made a few touches to his song (the guitar solo) which ended up playing a huge factor on his score. The only time we can really predict a winner is once we see all the performances, and this year feels one of the strongest so far.

I do agree with you about the the song itself being great, and I do realise I'm writing this with the benefit of hindsight, but I was worried about this singer representing the UK right from the get-go. Olly has a great _recording_ voice and I've certainly loved many songs of his (and Y&Ys), especially King. However, his _live_ voice isn't the strongest and this is something I was concerned about. Also, from the purely voting point of view, I was worried he might go too sexual for some people's tastes, particularly in Eastern Europe. In the event, I was unfortunately correct, even though I personally don't see anything wrong at all with how he chose to showcase the song from an artistic point of view. I think it was harsh to say the least to get "null points" from the voting public, but I was sadly not surprised it wasn't a high scre.

It's a solid entry but feel the latter half needs a bit of extra kick to maximise its potential. Maybe there'll be more instrumental breaks to allow for sophisticated choreography in the live performance? My gut feeling is that it could score well if sufficiently elevated - I Wrote A Song by contrast just didn't really lend itself to a live performance.

Ehhh... I'm going to get a lot of haters, and I'm open to being proved wrong in a couple of month s... While I like the song, respect it's a Gen Z song whose genre is just out of range of what I really like but could listen to casually... I think with the quality of songs this year, it's going to end up near the bottom. It's good, but doesn't fit the Eurovision mold to maximize points. And that's why I love the contest; even last-place songs can be bangers to the right people and I can find some favorites within them! That being said, with good stage direction, I'd be willing to bump up my prediction to middle of the pack.

This song is actually quite good. But I wonder how good it's gonna be live. I saw Olly Alexander live once and it was horrible. He wasn't really able to sing a single song well, out of breath all the time. So he really needs to dance as little as possible.
@sebastian01078 ай бұрын
Same here. I tried to re-educate his Ollygans and all the honest vocal-coaches on KZbin for months about his very challenged Live-vocals. I was just flabbergasted how they all kept defending him until the last moment. He needs to re-think his own perception of his voice completely. Guy needs to learn to sing from scratch, 3 to 5 tones lower than what he's used to. If he'd bring out his new album soon after this, it would be a disaster. But, yeah, Dizzy as a radio-edit was a nice-enough song ...
