I listen to this song and every time I’m marveled at the mixing work, ESPECIALLY in the end there when it reaches the peak. How each singer is subtly and beautifully risen above the mix and given a small moment of clarity within the overall crescendo. This song is an absolute masterpiece of mixing and by far the greatest work pentatonix has done to date in that regard.

I like it when a vocal coach does actual vocal coaching about techniques ON A SONG and performance instead of being fixated on the singers' skills trying to be a voice teacher. Because if you watch Pavarotti doing Masterclasses he does the same thing. He's not acting as a voice TEACHER, he's doing coaching and you can see what he said exactly like YOU said about coming in a split second before the orchestra to get the audience's ear in his Covered Vocals series! So Brava, you!

This group vocal ability is incredible, I noticed that Kevin and Scott have the ability to temporarily back higher and lower notes whenever Mitch or Avi does solos. This song is a great example for Scott, his beautiful bass while Avi does his solo, I love it. Kevin does the same thing for Mitch on Can't Sleep Love. The range of this group is ridiculous.

Hey Beth, thanks so much for your thoughts on this one. I have seen this vid a bajillion times, and it still manages to get me, every time :) One of the (many) things I love about PTX, is the...intensity? theatricality? passion? they bring to whatever they're singing. To me at least, it lifts their performances up above the already-high level they hit just based on the beauty their voices and arrangements. They *feel* their songs - and they bring us along for the ride. Just beautiful. Anyway - loved the reaction, love the informed commentary, soso much - thanks for sharing!

It used to be that the best version of this that I'd heard was done by the choir of a modest-sized church in Roanoke, Virginia (USA). Their choir was *amazing!* Truly on a par with top professional groups that had recordings out! And the choir wasn't all that big (around 25 or so?), but were both powerful *and* high-quality performers. The first time I heard them do this song I *tried* to sing along with them (I always sing along, unless it's just plain outside my vocal range - even then I'll usually just sing it shifted an octave - or beyond my abilities; rare, as I am [other's evaluations, not mine] a very good singer). But I had a problem with my voice 'cracking', because their performance was *so* moving, I was getting all choked up! Well, the same thing happens with me when playing PTX's version; I want to sing along with it/them, but keep getting literally choked up, and my voice breaks. I've heard their version probably 100+ times ... and it's so beautiful, it *still* gets to me - *every* time! And you don't have to be a part of the Western Christian musical tradition to be affected. I was watching a young Korean girl reacting to this, and she was obviously moved by it and remarked that even though she's not Christian, she could hear that this was holy music. I was *so* struck by that - that even though she was raised listening to a *completely different* style of religious music, this still 'spoke' to her! *Wow!* BTW, the Choir Director/Leader for that church in Roanoke was *so* good that, even though I was standing in the midst of the congregation, 50-60 feet away, he was still able to come up to me afterwards, compliment me on my vocal power and abilities and tell me he hoped I would join their choir! I was doubly stunned - first that he could pinpoint/locate *one* voice out of the congregation; second, that he considered me good enough to 'invite me in'! (I was *very* flattered, but had to tell him that I was only there because I was visiting my mother in the area - & introduced him to her, since she was standing right there.)
