@@annavaskelainen some added context - there is an objectionable, exceptionally crude street term of “byatch-slapped” (um, you can work out the actual term, no doubt). It’s basically, a pimp slapping one of his prostitutes into compliance, or generally slapping a woman - very ugly, yes. A lot of street terms have been reclaimed and entered the mainstream via music, movies, and culture that someone as old as I am would find shocking. But I can understand why Af. Americans reclaim and own the N-word, women reclaim and own the B-word, etc. (it’s “no, you don’t get to use that word against us, we get to own it and use it, so F-you!” It’s reclaiming power. I’m still not comfortable with it, but, yeah.) Mitch-slapped is a light, playful play on a very ugly term, and your Mitch-slap moment was delicious. BTW - where did you get your English? It’s very clear (um, duh, what else would a self-respecting vocal coach have?), but there is a hint of an accent. Side note: for reference, years ago I was approached by a young woman asking directions for busses in Seattle. She spoke American English, accent and all. I gave it to her, and asked where she was traveling from. Germany! What? Ok. “What happened to the accent?”, I asked. She replied she spent a year as a high-school exchange student in Indiana. And then she effortlessly slipped into a German-intonation speaking English for a sentence or two (Oh jah jah!) to show she was authentic! Loved it. Since then, I alway wonder how good non-native English come by their accent.

Hi, again, Anna! Congratulations! I've watched many, dozens if not hundreds, of reactions to PTX singing this marvellous song and you are only the second reactor to pick up on the background vocals reproducing Jeff Buckley's guitar picking and Scott's "..minor fall and major lift..". 👍🏼 You cannot go wrong in choosing anything they've done...they've never disappointed me and I've been following them since shortly after SingOff. Sony (SME) protects them like gold, because they are just that, so copyright strikes are the norm. From that point of view, their "Evolution of..." series are safe choices. You might enjoy their cover of "Shallow". It's the only time Kirstin and Scott have sung TO each other, and Kevin does some cello-boxing. BTW, Angelina Jordan is using TikTok to experiment. A few of them are nearly full length covers. Her face is always in unobstructed close-up for your analysis in these raw videos. Her control of her instrument has jumped yet another level in the last year.

Oh my ! I do not speak any Finnish but the sound of your voice makes me want to learn. I enjoyed and appreciated the English captions very much because what you had to say was intelligent and based on a fine understanding of voice and language. I admit that despite how much I enjoyed what you said and what I learned from it. I went back and went through it a second time with my eyes closed so I could listen to both songs; the one PTX was singing and also the one you were singing. Because while I do not understand the words, the emotions, the feelings and the innate joy you have in what you do and in life is not only apparent but it has it's own rhythm and musicality with delightful variations in tone and timbre and dynamics. When you do speak english it is done so well it is hard to believe it is not your "mother tongue". Thank you for this gift you have given us. You have enhanced my concept of Finland and the Finnish language and given me insight into the music of PTX . It is probably probably too forward and bold a thing to say but you are also a treat for people's eyes.

Loved the analysis and comments on the singers, and the Mitch-slap was a real winner! While it has absolutely nothing to do with the music or performance, I've always loved the way the audience reacts to this song. You can tell that they're very aware of the arrangement, and they are also amazingly (in this day and age) polite to both the performers and other audience members. There are short outbursts of applause and cheers for favorite singers, but it very quickly dies down to silence, so that everyone at the concert can enjoy the performance without interference from the noise of the audience.

I love hearing professional analyses of their performances, and yours did not disappoint! Another vocal coach reactor described Kirstin's voice as "like a blade"! You may not know that although they create the basis for their arrangements by themselves, the final product is at least as much the work of their arranger Ben Bram. Those suspended chords are one of his favorite elements. I really hope that you do more from them. I would love for you to eventually work up to their recent release The Prayer, and then watch the documentary of the process that went into their recording of the album it's from, _Evergreen_ . The video is called The Recording of Evergreen. An excellent well-informed reaction and I love the way you slip from Finnish to English and back so effortlessly. Avi is an opera trained bass with a large range and although he has a few solo slots in the Pentatonix catalogue (for example the segment of Bruckner’s Christus Factus Est’ at the beginning of the live versions of ‘Aha’ or ‘Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy’ and especially ‘Standing By’ where he takes the lead), you’ll need to visit his solo work to really appreciate him. Staying with Pentatonix though, their ‘Daft Punk’ medley, their original ‘Love Again’ their heart rending version of ‘Say Something’ and their astonishing ‘Evolution of Michael Jackson’ are really worth listening to. And their version of ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’! After Avi left, he was replaced by Matt - and there’s another big body of work to discover right there!

Great reaction. Thank you for the subtitles. I have listened to many vocal coaches reactions but you give great content that is easily understood by a layperson like me. Thank you again. Jen, Ohio,USA.

Thank you for adding Pentatonix to your reviews when you get to know them better and listen to more of their music they have to be one of the best a cappella groups in the world for them to incorporate beatboxing into an a cappella group is just fantastic I love listening to them and thank you again for listening to them.

I just dropped by to watch your reaction again, because I couldn't resist! ;) And I must admit that I probably enjoyed it even more second time around. It is great to watch you as you enjoy the performance and then listen to your analysis of the (sometimes very subtle) technical elements of each PTX members performance, including Kevin who sometimes, unjustly, gets overlooked although he is a hugely important part of most performances. Thanks again for your reaction, and I hope to see more PTX reactions from you!

I hope you listen to their cover of The Prayer! It’s absolutely stunning and even though you see their brilliance, the prayer will still blow your mind! I loved your reaction!

With the camera angle and lighting Anna looks like a 40’s Hollywood movie star. This is as close to perfection as I’ve heard a group of singers since maybe Simon and Garfunkel.

Three of them, Scott, Kirstin and MItch all attended the same high school a mile away from me. They made the Choir teacher look like a genius. In the video Cheerleader, they are wearing the Martin varsity jackets of their school.

I love your reaction video. I always enjoy watching musicians and vocal coaches respond to PTX and other favorites of mine. I learn so much from you all, and my own appreciation of the groups grows commensurately. Thank you for your video.

Yesssss, this was fabulous, please listen to a bunch more! I think you'd enjoy their version of Kiiara's Gold (but if you don't know the original song, toss it on to get a feel for how they switched it up, especially Mitch's mastery on the chorus) and their version of The Prayer, in particular (to hear more of their tones in combination). Loved all of your analysis!

Awesome reaction. It was wonderful to see you so touched by their artistry. Some people who reacted for the first time to their music video version of Hallelujah were wondering how much of a decrease in quality would be felt if they sang it live. This proves that they only put out on video what they can also perform live. Which is simply incredible. Wait till you see their Daft Punk compilation. That was mindblowing in terms of not only the quality of their vocals, but also their creativity. It won them a Grammy!

They make us all swoon. I sang acapella a long time in school and just love their arrangements and execution. Also how they are totally selfless on working as a team to create the best sound overall. Sound or silence and the Prayer are exquisite on single song prowess. Their medleys are jaw dropping how they recreate the sounds with their voices. Daft punk won the Grammy 90s Dance Medley is arguably better than the originals Wizard of Ahhhs is a fantastic Oz reimagined Mashup
