This song is a gift for ARMY when BTS anniversary (BTS Festa) in 2016 so that's why it's 3 years. This year (2020) we got a gift song from Kookie Still With You. Their role in group not because they separate them between rapper and vocalist. But, before debut RM and Suga was already an underground rapper. And BTS was suppose to be a hip hop group (with members are rappers) not idol group. But their CEO decided to change it. So that why Kookie can rap too.

RM raps because he's into rapping not because he was pigeonholed. RM was actually already a pretty well known underground rapper before he ever signed with BigHit. (*To understand what we mean by underground you may need to learn more about South Korean music industry). In fact the name Rap Monster comes from a line from one of his old raps he wrote before BTS. This goes for Suga too. . There are many songs, whether in their mixtape or in BTS albums, where the rap line is in fact singing. There are open to this within the group. They share funny videos where the vocalists and rappers switch places, taking on each other's parts in title songs. Then you have all these one rapper & one vocalist collaboration songs. For example in V & RM's song 4 O'Clock, V asked RM to sing the chorus instead of just doing the rap for it. I feel the pigeonholing of BTS and its members mostly happens within the music industry that looks to box them into a genre. Thanks for reacting. It was nice seeing one of the older songs.

I don't think he pigeonholed himself.. Rap is his passion! He knew he wanted to be a rapper since he was 13 and was rapping underground before their CEO discovered him at 15 and was blown away a kid that age could already write such amazing lyrics. He signed RM and literally formed BTS around him! Without RM, BTS wouldnt exist. And Jungkook literally auditioned and entered their label cuz he saw RM's underground rapping and was a fan of him and wanted to be in the same group as him! RM and Suga & Jhope too DO sing on some tracks as well. They have great vocals. And they DO use it. You just havent reacted to those songs. (Ps, BTS have 14 albums (full albums & EP) and you reacted to what, 20 of their songs at most? And this is excluded their solo mixtapes. Besides Army usually suggest their more melodic, vocal-line heavy songs for you so you can react to their vocals but most BTS songs are actually hiphop heavy and you havent reacted to those pretty much at all) Basically the 3 rappers do sing or do "rap singing" on a lot of songs but are always rappers first and foremost cuz thats what THEY want. This is like saying JayZ, Kanye West, Eminem etc shouldnt pigeonhole themselves. I mean they are rappers?😂 Sure they can sing on some tracks but they will always be rappers first. Oh and if you wanna hear Suga sing for example, listen to his song Set Me Free.

"I Know" is one of my favorite songs from them! This song was a gift to the fandom in 2016 for BTS' 3rd anniversary (during a celebration period known as FESTA). It was written and produced by RM himself so I'm happy he decided to surprise us with his singing! RM was an underground rapper before debut so he prefers to rap but he did sing quite a bit in his most recent mixtape (solo album) 'Mono' if you're interested, particularly in the songs "seoul," "moonchild," and "forever rain." RM and JK sounded beautiful together in this song. I liked the part where you distinguished between singers following melodies and rappers following rhythms. Thanks for another great video, Adam!

When RM first joined the group he had no confidence in his singing ability and would say in many interviews he can't sing. He was actually encouraged a lot by the other members to take on more singing and has improved a lot, so much so that half of his second mixtape is him singing. It seemed you enjoyed the vocal and rapper contrast of this song. There are many more out there. One of my faves is Hug Me by V & J-Hope. Suga having Jimin join him for "Tony Montana" live is also interesting! [Search "AGUST D ft JIMIN Tony Montana." Jimin has some awesome vocals on there].

RM writes a lot of songs. When I say write, not only the lyrics, but the melody, the music. He is a rapper, but he also writes songs for the singers. He makes demo versions for a lot of the singing parts the members take up. So he has the basic skills and emotions written down. He just doesn't show it. He writes music for his teammates to sing to their fullest. He knows all their techniques, ups and downs.

This was a song they released for their 2016 Festa. RM and JK made this song for the fans, thanking us for all the hard work we put in for them. My favorite line from this song is "the red carpet that's laid out before me, is red because of the tears of blood of the people who love me, I know" Also, BTS are huge supporters of lgbtq+ so them including boys and girls in this is really common. Even in their love songs, while it might be translated as "girl", they usually use gender neutral terms.

I love when I get to hear RM and the other rappers sing. Especially since it’s usually pretty rare. The same goes for hearing Jungkook and the other singers rap. Every year BTS and ARMY celebrate FESTA together which is an event that starts near the beginning of June and goes until the band’s anniversary. During FESTA they release special content that includes songs, photos, etc as a gift to ARMY. Originally BTS was going to be a hip hop group but they ended up debuting as an idol group instead. RM explained that his original stage name started as a nickname that came from a song of his where he shouted “Rap Monster” and when asked about a stage name that at the time it seemed like an obvious choice. He later released a statement about changing his stage name to RM and claimed that he out grew Rap Monster. At least that’s how I remember the story.

One thing to know: none of them are pigeonholed into a slot. All of the rappers have done various forms of singing on different BTS tracks or their mixtapes. In fact, JHope is a consistent background singer on MANY BTS songs. Two of the vocalists can rap, Jungkook and V have done so on many BTS songs. If they all wanted to do a rap track the vocalists could.

The raplines definitely have extended their skills to singing. It's just that you're probably not aware of the songs where they sing. You can listen to where they also sang in their mixtapes, RM (Mono), Jhope (Hopeworld), n Suga (Agust D-2). You can also try the song 4 O'clock by RM n V.

Rhythm is an area where singers who also play instruments have an advantage. Band students tend to get more training in rhythm and that carries over well into vocal concentrations. I wish more school vocal programs realized the need for music theory and rhythm training, because I saw a lot of fantastic singers really struggle as music majors.

But now rm is a jungkook fanboy lol he said that jungkook is the most talented person he’s ever met… and said that without jk there would be no bts.
