Geoff (the bass) is pronounced Jeff. Eli (bald guy, tenor) pronounced Elly as in belly. Acapella groups like this are definitely best experienced with good headphones so you can pick up all the bass and vocals at their best! All their members have an amazing range, none of them are limited to their vocal "label". Layne Stein is the beatboxer, he also arranges a lot of their songs and also sings. Geoff also arranges a lot of their songs. A very multitalented group of people :) Geoff has a near 5 octave range, and has both tenor, bass and basso profundo range :) Eli is tenor 2, but has tenor 1, baritone and bass range. J.None is baritone, but has bass range and tenor range. Layne the beatboxer is also baritone, but has tenor and bass range with the help of various techniques.

Rachel Potter has played Ariel live for Disney, so she is very familiar with the character. Geoff (pronounced "Jeff") has a natural bass-baritone range, can singe down to F1 in chest voice, but very good for using subharmonics that go even lower, while also having a 5 octave range into high tenor. The baritone doing lead on "Under The See" is J. None; he has an impressive range, as well. The guy in yellow, Eli, has an interesting voice that hangs out in tenor a lot, while he can cover baritone and bass, as well. Layne Stein is the beatboxer, while he can sing very well, too. Very talented people.

Layne (the beatboxer) and Geoff (the bass) tend to do most of their arrangements, although Eli (bald, glasses, Tenor 2) has started doing arrangements as well. Their arrangements are part of why I adore this group so much; there is such creativity in their work. And you aren't wrong about the ranges of every member- I don't think there is anyone in that group whose range is anything less than unearthly. Eli has been known to pick up bass lines when Geoff is soloing. And as impressive as Geoff's range is, Layne's range is actually pretty much the same (and even broader if you include some of the sounds he can create through ingressive phonation). VoicePlay is by far my favorite a cappella group; they are all immensely skilled and ridiculously creative, but I think what puts them ahead of the rest is the sheer joy that comes through their performances. To many artists take themselves so seriously as to forget to have fun with what they are doing. VoicePlay is always having fun, and it shows through in their performances. It's also impressive to note that they produce nearly everything in their videos themselves- Eli does lighting, Geoff and Layne do directing and editing, they source their own locations and costuming etc. It's pretty amazing; the only things I've noticed them subbing out are makeup, final sound engineering, camera work and occasionally they will get assistance in arranging, particularly for female vocalists. These guys are the complete performance package, and I am HERE FOR IT.

Wonderful reaction and analysis! Layne Stein is the beatboxer - he and Geoff (the bass) usually do all of VoicePlay's arrangements. They also do all of their own production, including video editing, set design, etc. They're my favourite a cappela group and definitely worth exploring more. 😊 Their Frozen II and Moana medleys are also great ones! Oh - and Geoff Castellucci has his own solo channel where he releases bass covers. He has a 4+ octave range, which is amazing. Sixteen Tons is a great one of his.

He is NOT a basso profundo. If you can blast an C2 over an orchestra then yes you are a basso profundo and if you can blast easily a E2 over an orchestra then you’re a regular bass. You've convinced me. I really want all the Voiceplay members to switch parts for a song or two. Eli can sing bass, they could get another beatboxer so Layne can sing, Geoff could take J. None's spot, just really throw everybody for a loop for fun.

Layne is the beat boxer., They are very theatric. Try their "Moana Medley." or "Oogie Boogie Song".. or "Kidnap the Sandy Claws" or "This is Halloween" heck even try "Grim Grinning Ghosts" or their "You're a Mean One Mr Grinch" TRy their "Warriors" cover... and Geoff has a lot of solo stuff that is worth listening to.

Everyone else has commented great VP songs, so I'll toss in giving Home Free a listen as well. They collab a bit with these guys (especially Tim and Geoff) and they are every bit as good, with a country twist.

You should check Voiceplay - Oogie Boogie or Voiceplay - Daddy sang bass but prepare yourself for some low notes 😉

9:57 everyone goes on and on about Geoffs range but Layne stein (the freaking beatboxer) has a range of A0-C#6!

One of my favorites from Voiceplay but there is so much more. Oogie boogie is a must do as is superstition, carry on wayward son and Geoffs solo stuff, 16 tons, and blackbird. Subscribed for more acapella. Please also check out Home Free and Their covers of ring of fire, man of constant sorrow, how great thou art and Mayday.

One of my favorite VoicePlay videos is the Moana mashup!!! You should review that one :) Another amazing acapella group you should react to is Voctave (Disney Princess Medley)

Great reaction! Any song by VoicePlay will be a treat for sure. Also, another great Acapella group to react to is Home Free. They are amazing. Similar level of talent but with a little country flare. You might want to start with "Man of Constant Sorrow" with them to begin that rabbit hole. However, you have plenty of VP songs to keep you busy for a while. :)

You mentioned that you liked Pentatonix and you've now discovered Voiceplay... that just leaves Home Free for you to review. I'd suggest either "Man Of Constant Sorrow" or "How Great Thou Art" be one of your first for Home Free. After you listen to those, then listen to "Mayday" to have the group roles turned upside-down. =) EDIT: Voiceplay does a Queen mashup that is spectacular!
