Idol looks like a simple song but watch the mv and watch DKDKTV EXPLAINS IDOL and you will find layers of meaning in the symbology. Some of which are also present in this performance. As far as I am aware BTS foots the bill for the lions share of the costs of their performances so that they are not limited in what they can do. They really don't like the way the American shows try to curtail their performances even once telling them they could not sing it live. BTS may use backing tracks but pride themselves in being live performers.

This particular stage of IDOL displays the traditional roots of the composition and instrumentation. The folk dance that opens it involves head rotations and revolving jumps that they incorporate in their choreography. Suga loves to use traditional sounds and folk instruments (strings and percussion) in his productions, as in Daechwita and Haegum. A very creative approach when merged with Hiphop rapping!

The lyrics to Idol are very interesting! I know it's hard to do in a reaction-video format but in your own times, I recommend checking out the lyrics to a lot of their songs. "IDOL" is the term used for a specific type of music/performer in Korea. Often, they are stereotyped to be shallow, and their music they make isn't considered "real music". (You call me artist, you call me idol...). This is commentary on "Idol" fan culture and how it's bad for artists and fans alike. BTS wants to step out of that machine and make something unique for themselves. The first album/songs you guys reviewed was generally more upbeat and positive, but you'll find there is a bit of a rebellious undertone to BTS. They try not to stay negative all the time but they also make it clear they know what people say about them. When people try to disparage their names, disrespect them, ect. They are keenly aware of what's happening and will often make comments about it in their music, directly or indirectly. Yoongi/AgustD has the reputation for being the most blunt and aggressive about it, but all three of the rappers chose to stand their ground when they face disrespect or scrutiny, which I love

Idol is one of my favourite songs of BTS. The way they constructed it with such intensity - like you said - combined with various instruments unfamiliar to the most of us, together with the lyrics it created such an energy - it can grab me on my worst day & pull me out of my worst mood & make it all better. The lyrics convey a very powerful message that each and everyone should keep in mind whenever someone tries to bring us down. We will always get up! I highly recommend you to - even if not recorded & in your own time - to go back to watching the music video + explanation. The song is much deeper than it seems at first listen + incorporated hidden meanings in both lyrics + MV. (By any means - it is that way with a few of their songs. To mention some mv's which are worth including explanations with, apart from IDOL: Blood Sweat & Tears, Spring Day, Ddaeng (which is a rapline song & super clever)) Keep up the great work! As always thanks for a great video! Some recommendations for the future! Both solo and group songs - Suga - "Dear my Friend" or "The Last". For both of these, I recommend reading the lyrics and/or some context before hearing the music, because they are deeply personal songs for yoongi. I also highly recommend the live performances, because it's so emotionally powerful. I think you guys will enjoy the angst of it. RM - "Still life" or "Lost!". I think "lost!" Might need some prior explanation because the music video is a little hard to understand without it. Especially the intro - it's a great commentary on American talk show hosts. Jhope - anything from Hobipalooza lol Jin - "Abyss" or "it's definitely you (which he did with V) V - "Stigma". No comment. Just an amazing, gorgeous song. Jungkook - "Begin" (from the Wings album) Jimin - "promise" For BTS as a band, the "Blood' Sweat and Tears" music video is absolutely gorgeous. I also really liked "Airplane pt.2"

There is something I’ve been wanting to say and now that you mentioned about hobi being “Sunshine” quite awhile ago his newer songs were reviewed by you guys, picked by the fans I believe and they were “Arson” and “More” which was some newer tones he was doing then and which I really like. But I have to say if you really want to see Mr Sunshine (J Hope) then review the two that introduced me to him which were “Hope World” and “Daydream” my favorite of his, matches his personality perfect. You will enjoy those for sure if you haven’t seen them yet 😁

Can’t say enough about our boys. There ARE vids released with English Captions to their performances on S.Korea’s award shows however - they are far n few between. Aka. Rare. Basically? Army have already seen all vids ( with English captions) to said songs - LONG BEFORE - performing them live. So*Shrug*….no need. Had you two also done a deep dive on ‘Idol’. This was all about the performance and not about the vocals although the boys always have great vocals. So not being able to see it is very unsatisfying. Just saying Plus there are so many getter songs for a vocal coach and a sing writer to react to. Not sure why this one was chosen out of all their other tons of songs.
