This made me cry.. As a singer that has always been trying to do better with my voice, sometimes not hitting those notes right can make you feel so.... bad. I mean, I know I'm not bad, but it really hurts your confidence, so to see how she responds when she hits the notes right in her chest voice... It really hit a place in my heart. You can learn. Think of singing like learning how to do the splits. Some people just have natural flexibility, so they can sing. Other people are really tight, so they cant. If you do the exercises, your chords will stretch. You will be able to sing notes. In two weeks, I've increased my vocal range by two octaves. I cried listening to me sing the other day because my voice sounded so beautiful. I couldn't sing. I NEVER had even a slight compliment of someone saying I could. It is truly amazing how quickly your voice can improve. I had no idea.

Cheryl, I wanted you to know you've touched my heart. This is a little long and I don't even know that you'll read it, but: I loved singing since, oh, 5? 6? I was in choir from age 11-16 and LOVED it. My junior year (16), I made it into the highest performance choir - basically what's considered varsity - which had been a dream for years prior. It was a more exclusive mixed choir, with only 16 members which required try-outs, choir summer camp, voice lessons, the whole nine yards. I remember feeling so stoked. I got there! I spent a year there, but I was miserable because my choir director decided I made an excellent personal punching bag. Oddly enough, he didn't insult my voice, but instead was emotionally abusive on a personal level. I was a teen girl, so, of course, I had horrid self confidence. He only made it worse, as I left class crying Every. Single. Day. I could take constructive criticism about the exercise at hand. What I couldn't do is withstand a 40-something year old adult using me as their scapegoat for their lack of happiness in their personal life. I didn't try out for my senior year and left choir all together. Now, as an adult in my late 30s, I know he's insignificant and his issues were HIS, but the experience left a lasting imprint nonetheless. Singing has been a source of bittersweet emotion since, and I still catch myself having low confidence moments. I'm often afraid to project fully in the way I KNOW I'm supposed to. I often wonder what I may have pursued if I hadn't left behind one of my longest lasting loves. Watching you brings me to tears almost every single video. You're such an amazing coach with a beautiful soul who encourages not just the student's voice, but their whole being. I wish I had had someone supportive like you to lift me up when I had the abhorrent self esteem of a teenage girl. However, seeing the JOY of people singing, of you when you coach them; it makes me smile and want to brush up on my skills. Maybe take some lessons and even sing in public again lol. Man!!!!! This students little beaming face! She had no idea that was in there! That sound was just sitting there...waiting to be discovered! The gift Madame Porter has....teaching the technical intricacies of the craft is impeccable.....but the really remarkable thing is when she shines a light on what she knows they are already capable of........the confidence that beams out from every one of her pupils is incredible! Please every educator, professor, mentor....ALL OF THE ABOVE......Madame Porter is the person to seek inspiration from! Love this!

I swear I felt Maria SO MUCH when she was at the limit of her register. Cause my limit is pretty much where hers is, and every single time I try to go up from there my voice is literally HATING ME. It is there, shaking, craving for the head I am desperately trying to keep it from, and in the end I lose control of it! But Maria made it, and I think I can, too. I am looking forward to your online course tomorrow, I am sure I'm not the only one having issues with my chest voice. If this is going to be addressed in your classes, even I will make progress with it! ...hopefully
