Most of the Filipino singers are not trained or taken on voice lessons but you're right most grow up singing karaoke since toddler and most are product of singing competition since young. Yeah I guess experience is the best teacher for most of them. Maybe because in Philippines it's a blow in their pride when you take up voice lessons then just be beaten up by those who didn't. And most who's taking voice lessons is so methodical, when they sing they focus in technicalities and they can't deliver the song with feelings.

Imagine that every streets in the whole Philippines there are great singers, every family has their own great singers, as I myself started singing at age 3, started joining singing contest at age 6, became national champion at age 12. I never had formal training. We are a good listener and i mastered my singing because of criticism and to sing only what is good for my voice ..
@vinoful124 жыл бұрын
they joined several singing contests during their childhood, so they had too much experience, esp Jona, after winning in a singing competition, she became part of a noon-time variety show , she got the chance to sing with the best singers, like Regine, Jaya Lani and other singers of their generation. So by experience, it made them great singers today, growing better and better!

Filipino actually have very high standards when it comes to singing, beauty pageants and academics that's why we tend to keep in mind that we need to exceed what is expected. Training starts at home with family, then karaoke bars then in public places to show off and get some insights whether we're good enough or needs more practice. Not all has been given the privilege to go to music lessons or schools

You're right Yazik. Aside from karaoke, singers in the Philippines get their experience through singing competition from small baranggay contest, school competition etc. until they compete in the biggest stage which is the national competition. Mostly, these singers compete at the very young age like TNT boys and that's where they build their technique. Singing competitions are always present in the small community. When the whole clan gathered we also show off our talent through karaoke. So we might not have vocal coaches here but we learn through competitions and listening to the biggest stars.

I think what filipinos differs from other countries is that at a very young age, we were taught to sing in events. Graduation, singing competitions, birthdays and even burials. Singing for Filipinos is so natural that we don’t really care how we sound. We only care for passion, talent, company and how do we enjoy the moment we open our mouth. Not just events, we sing everyday, everywhere and we jam.

Hi Yazik, I understand you apprehension regarding that most Pilipino Singers have no Vocal Training. But it's really true. As to what you have said about "experience", they all started at a very young age, about 5yo. and keep on singing and entering in all kinds of competitions and could copy/mimic the vocal technics of other singers as they grow older. And I guess, it boils down to "God Given Talents". Pilipinos are really talented, and that they're really thankful for that. Malls are selling Karaoke (we call it Videoke) and always been frequented by ordinary folks who showcase their talents, young and old alike.

I'm currently bing(e)ing Klarisse's performances and reactions right now. I actually came here from your most recent reaction of her (your face sounds familiar). Just happy more people are recognizing her now 😁 When you said it's hard to believe the part where Filipinos being untrained singers yet sounding good, it's perfectly understandable. I mean, most people claim it is so (I assume the untrained ones) but I can safely estimate that if 85 percent of Filipinos are good singers, about 50 of that has been trained - whether getting privately taught by vocal coaches (those who are well off), by joining school choirs, theater groups or church choir (in which one doesn't have to pay and most people who have passion for singing take advantage of this me included lol), or those who make it a living by singing in a band. All of which provides training in a form of rehearsals (and the vocal warm-ups of course). Most of them get better thru numerous local competitions, but they still improve what natural talent they have once they get big or at least have tv exposures (cause the management will insist on getting them vocal coaches). At this point, Jona is polished and leaps ahead compared to who she was back when she first joined and won the competition that made her a star. So while most Filipinos naturally have good vocal tone, not everyone can sing "pro-level" without aid of a vocal coach at one point in their life. I hope my fellow Filipinos would understand that 😅💚 And congrats on having more than 200k subs!🎉 I remember back when I joined using my old account, you only have about 32k subs. Thanks for showing support and being sincere with your reactions. I love how graciously truthful you are. 🎶✨
