This looks IDENTICAL to BIG Z's tutorial on this same thing a year ago. The highlighted circle around your head, the puzzle piece analogy and pictures (instruments and vocals on each piece), the 2-3 db finishing touch and a LOT of the vocabulary you use as well.

"Thank you so much for this amazing tip! Your explanations are really helping me get my vocals to sit better in the mix. The combination of EQ, compression, and reverb you described brings the vocals out perfectly without overpowering the track. Exactly what I was looking for! Great video, keep it up!"

Hi Will, i just wanted to say thank you! Your Channel is amazing and really helpful. I´ve been producing and releasing electronic music(mainly trance&ambient) in the 90ies and stopped 2002 (the industry was collapsing at that time and i went for other ways to make a living). Last year i found my passion again to produce music and take it again to a professional level. Things have changed quite a bit in the last 22 years 🙂. I´ve learned so many great tipps and modern production tricks from you, so.that I got my sound back to a good level within 6 months and i´ve started to sign tracks with smaller/medium labels. Still improving with each track, so please keep up the great work! Hope to meet you at an industry event and just thank you in person. Thinking about taking one of your masterclasses...

People that don't want to buy soothe can do the same thing with Abletons stock envelope follower, and an eq 8. Just find the frequencies on the eq 8. Flatten the volume to 0. Attach the gain of those frequencies to the envelope follower(In + mode) and subtract the amount to taste.

This is perfect timing Will! Working on a vocal track right now lol Edit: i don't have soothe 2 and I'm also using ableton 11 lite (budget) but I've found that if I use the stock Mix-Gel compressor and play with the settings it will blend together nice. Would sidechaining the vocal reverb help it "sit" in the mix better?
@EDMTips3 ай бұрын
Absolutely, it would! That's tip #2 :)

@@EDMTips lol that's what gave me the idea, I wasn't sure if that was exclusive to the soothe2 plugin or would translate to stock compressor plugins as well. Thanks for the reply!

Hello, GREAT VIDEO! Thanks so much. Ive been seeing your videos for a few years and see you use Ableton Live! so maybe you can help me with the following. I jut got a Burl B2 and wanted to ask how I would hook up the B2 ADC into my Apollo X8P so that I can mix and listen to the out put of the B2? My normal chain and bouncing option is straight from my Apollo X8P to hard disk via off-line bounce. So now heres what Ive done to accomplish this: * Clocked the Apollo to the Burl with word clock BNC (Master) * Routed output 7/8 from Apollo to analog in on BURL * Burl TOSS out to Apollo ADAT in 1 (changed Digital input in console matrix from ADAT to SPIDF) This is where Im stuck! Id like to listen to the B2 while producing/mixing. I would also like to track thru BURL while recording vocals. Im thinking of putting the the BURL and the Apollo out 7/8 on to a patch-bay. So I can accomplish this. Thanks in advance

Trackspacer 2 will do this if you can't afford Soothe 2. Wait for Black Friday and it will be about half price. It's a technique that works really well. A free crude way is to find the sweet spot frequency of the vocal eg 4k and then make a corresponding slight dip in the EQ on the Instrument bus. Not as good as a dynamic EQ but its better than nothing.

@@EDMTips a Multiband dynamic sidechaning compressor can actually be built out of Ableton stock plugins and it works very well. 🙂 I encourage everyone to build their own. Doing that will teach them to understand the specific details of what soothe or track spacer are doing "out of the box". I have to emphasize that your tutorials leave me in 99% without any questions. Everything is clearly and strategically explained and you don't miss anything. It is a joy to watch your videos even after 20 years of producing and using Ableton. The journey is so exciting and full of new discoveries of techniques and DAW capabilities even though I consider myself experienced. 5 star rating! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

before and after are totally different mixes. even the drums are mixed differently. it sounds louder overall - the off beat open hat is way more present for example. even though i think the discussed techniques are great if applied correctly (imo too extreme in this example but this may be for the purpose of the video) I think the before and after are useless if done like that.. the techniques are well explained so it's a bit sad to see it all ruined by the "louder sounds better" comparison show off.
