The interval part of the chest bass is pretty interesting, and I think a lot of chest basses get mistaken for throat bass when there's an octave interval, but when you have that 5th or 7th interval between the vocalization and chest bass it sounds way more distinct and "growly" or powerful as you described. Really cool video and it's always cool to see some music theory being applied.

Thank you for this tutorial ! I'm a Tuvan throat singing teacher and you made me understand what some of my students were hitting when trying to do the Kargyraa (aka Throat Bass). I was also able to do this position/sound and didn't really know what it was, if it was the false vocal fold or not. (We are still not sure until someone does a laryngoscopy but I have a better vision of this technique) I explored the Thoat Bass subharmonic few years ago (you can check my videos so see the 4th and 5th Subharmonic) Basically what you are teaching here is the 2nd and 3rd Subharmonic (Technically it's the 3rd and 4th), but we surely can do more subharmonics than that :) I love your Demon Bass too, I tought I could do it but mine is definitely different so that's not it (mine is cool though). I'd love to see a tutorial for this sound ! Keep going, you gained one more subscriber :)

What a great tutorial! So insightful!!! Before u explain and demonstrate, I never would've thought of BV's Bass and yours as VCB because the two parts blend so well. To me, Colaps and Wunknown's VCB sounded more obvious as I can hear the airy texture of chest bass going on. It sure had an interval of a fifth(or an octave plus a fifth) while being more airy and less resonant.(Personally I prefer your texture)Since you didn't mention them in the video, I just wanna know your opinions on their VCB. Much love to you bro
@MazeFrogBeatbox
@MazeFrogBeatbox Жыл бұрын
THANK YOU SO MCUH!!! Im super glad you enjoyed the video, there is more to come! The only real difference between BV's VCB and Colapses and Wunknowns VCB is the "sharpness" or "how loose it is" (the amount of air and pressure), so the intervals are all the same (1 octave + a perfect fifth)

Man what a great tutorial. It's so weird. Years ago I thought I learned throat bass and after that even vibration bass. What I actually somehow learned by mistake was vocalized chest bass and when I thought I managed to learn vibration bass it was actually the "one octave and a fifth" vocalized chest bass. Learning throat bass is so stupid now because the muscle memory in my throat just wants to chest bass all the time

Hey, I don’t know if your responding to these comments. But I’ve been doing beatboxing for a bit more than a year and I’ve been trying this for a while. I have trouble where my vocal pitch is one octave above my chest vibration which doesn’t give it a very good sound. But if I try to raise my vocal pitch it turns in to regular throat bass and I can’t do the right non vocal vibration in combination. Just wondering if you had any tips. I love doing crazy vocal things, and if your up for it I’d love to chat more on something else. Thanks

perhaps try making it more airy and aim for highr notes? I don"t quite understand how raising your vocal pitch turns a vocalized chest bass/slizzer bass into a throat bass though. Do you have an instagram or a discord? I can help you on there!

I don't understand why this bass has that name, because "vocalized chest bass" sounds like a description of a regular throat bass
@MazeFrogBeatbox
@MazeFrogBeatbox Жыл бұрын
because it is a chest bass (vibration of the epiglottis) that we are vocalizing (adding the vibration of our vocal folds). The throat bass is also a “vocalized bass”! But the vibration that we are vocalizing in the case of throat bass is not from the epiglottis (like the chest bass), but its a vibration of the false folds which are totally separate from the epiglottis. And also throat bass is a subharmonic technique and vocalised chest bass isn’t. I’m currently working on a detailed throat bass tutorial actually! It should be out in a few days!
@qts
@qts Жыл бұрын
@@MazeFrogBeatbox Cool! I'll be looking forward to this. But I have to disagree, the bass from this video is actually a subharmonic technique, you can see for yourself if you look at the spectrogram. I've noticed something weird about the throat bass and what goes with it. People call throat bass both regular subharmonic singing and vocalized chest bass. I've seen it in many places, but for example in Remix's video "How To Beatbox - Vocalized Chest Bass Tutorial" at 1:03 he shows the throat bass that I meant in my comment, which is vocalized chest bass (it's literally the sound I get when I add my voice to a regular chest bass). Whereas in your video and in many other videos, throat bass is just normal subharmonic singing. And one more discrepancy: in the same video from Remix what is called vocalized chest bass is a bass with two subharmonics (also see the spectrogram), that is as if it is a vocalized chest bass with additional subharmonics, but your video shows a bass with one subharmonics (I don't know why it doesn't sound like a regular throat bass). This bass is also often called a vibration bass along with the normal singing of the second subharmonic. There is a lot of confusion.
@teniejc
@teniejc Жыл бұрын
@@qtsi'm sorry bro but: 1. the interval is way too large to create a subharmonic, and your spectogram analysis could be picking up simply the ratio we have set with our voices. 2. Remix has no clue what he is talking about and basically did CLR/Zombie bass the whole time. 3. The "throat bass" you can make this sound similar to is slizzer bass or modified throat bass, both of which using the epiglottis. Me and mazefrog tried HARD to research and understand everything and we have a very good understanding of what he says.
@qts
@qts Жыл бұрын
@@teniejc 1. I don't know what interval and what ratio you are talking about, but if you look at the spectrogram you can see that with this bass mazefrog can reach at least 35 hz, I don't believe he could go that low on the base tone of anything, epiglottis or vocal cords, that's why I assumed that somehow subharmonics are created. 2. I couldn't find anything called "zombie bass", and what the CLR guy (if you meant him) was doing doesn't sound like what Remix is doing. 3. So what is a throat bass? Any tutorial I come across right now shows the bass I'm referring to with that "throat clearing" method, and that's exactly the bass you get if you add a voice to the chest bass as I said earlier. I'm not trying to accuse you of anything, I just want a conversation. And I brought Remix as an example not because I think he has the right sound names, but to let you know that there are discrepancies that at least I want to clear up.
