There is nothing medieval about this performance. Both church and music are very much from the baroque period...
@lauriethompson7405 жыл бұрын
Yes Hieronymous Praetorius is right on the cusp of the high renaissance and the early baroque which is a truly excellent place to be if you ask me. Personally I find a lot of later sacred music, whilst highly accomplished and enjoyable, is not as 'spiritually beautiful' as this 'sweet spot' moment. There are plenty of exceptions of course e.g. Pergolesi's Stabat Mater

Whenever their volume level increases, I'm getting a lot of microphone feedback / unpleasant buzz. This isn't the first video of theirs which has this distracting noise. I don't think it's in my little speakers, since I don't hear this noise in other videos. Too bad, because this would otherwise be so great.
@EduardQualls4 жыл бұрын
I didn't get that effect from any of the pc's or systems I've played this on. It could be your speakers, but it could also be your sound driver. If yours has a graphic equalizer, try lowering the level set for the highest frequency band. When playing from a browser, there could be three volume levels involved: (1) the playback level (within KZbin); (2) the "volume mixer" value set for the browser, itself, by the operating system; and (3) possibly, the volume set on the speakers, themselves (some earphones don't have their own volume-setting capacity). So, it could be noise generated by a bad mix between/among those volume settings. I've found that if the computer's volume is set too high (Macs are bad about this; PCs, not so much), either browser's or the speakers' volume setting can cause too much power to be sent to the speakers' magnets and this causes problems. [Having a graphic equalizer in the mix can add to the volume conundrum.] It's generally best to have the PC's setting as high as possible for the browser, then lower the signal with the KZbin volume control and that on the speakers. This allows maximally detailed digital signal to go to the device driver for processing, then those other controls can lower the expressed, analog audio signal (sent to the speaker/earphone magnets) to levels that won't over-stress the speakers.
@musiclover1484 жыл бұрын
@@EduardQualls Hey, you went to a lot of trouble to write all that! I'm glad you can't send me a bill, because I probably couldn't afford you. Sure, it would be great to have higher-quality speakers, but as I mentioned, I haven't noticed said problem with other music videos, only theirs.

As always for VOCES8, a great listen, excellent blend and balance, exquisite precision on the fast passages, and so on. One minor criticism: this isn't an appropriate piece on which to swELL into voWELs as though it was an Anglican anthem being sung in St. Paul's. Greater clarity on the long notes would make an excellent performance even better.

Wonderful performance as such - but out of respect for the location, the singers should have put some effort on their apparel. The bunch is not a tourist group dropping in yet another church on the tour - or did the recording take them by surprise? This is first and foremost a place consecrated for venerating God so bare legs and shoulders are an eyesore no matter how angelic their voices are.
@budimirzvolanek62345 жыл бұрын
Beautiful church and singing, but they have no place standing in front of the altar with their back to the Most Sacred Altar Sacrament! Sacralage! They need to be on the choir loft and face the altar. And dress appropriately to be in the house of God which is not a concert hall ...
@Stadtpark905 жыл бұрын
I get what you are trying to say, but I simply don’t care about that the same way you do. They are facing the camera, and so is the altar, both for obvious reasons: having everything in one shot with them at the center of the church enhances the experience. If there was a god, he’d be in their voices. If there was a god, he’d be looking into their hearts and not what they are wearing. I actually like their casual wear: it makes them approachable. If anything, it shows how at home someone can feel in a church, which in turn makes church seem more approachable. There’s nothing wrong about that. Even when I try to look at it differently, it doesn’t change my mind: For all I care this could very well be their Sunday-garb - they are comfortable recording in it, so it probably expresses their personal view of being dressed appropriately. If they’d be wearing makeup and jewelry it would be as cocky as wearing sack and ash. And I certainly like flat shoes - but that’s a different story.
@budimirzvolanek62345 жыл бұрын
@@Stadtpark90 Careful in what you are saying, your eternal soul might be in danger. The Omnipotent God sees in YOUR heart and might not appreciate what He finds. The church is His place made for people to worship Him and be respectful. The singers and some listeners are not fully respectful in this instance. Nonbelievers & disrespectful people have no place in the Holy space of the church unless they repent and join the Catholic Church which is Jesus Christ's Body. I wish you well, amen.

@danielclayton94335 жыл бұрын
Frjim T they were probably rehearsing... that’s Ohk for them to dressed for that. And yes they recorded it this way to make them human and just like us. I love it! Plus, you don’t have to be super dressed up or dressed up at all to go to a church, no matter how beautiful. The poorest and sickest are allowed to go to the church dressed in what they have. So really the clothes have nothing to do with this. Very shallow look at what’s really going on.

gals and one male alto I think, overpowering the harmony again...cmon learn how to listen. You sopranos can't be forte even when it says fff.
