From 1708 when Bach was just 23 years old. An astounding composition for that age and maturity. His early cantatas were very different than the later more formulaic ones (not a criticism of the mature cantatas) But his earlier cantatas have more variety and are less predictable from a musical and structural standpoint. Thanks for posting this fantastic performance of this miraculous work. More please!

There was not much possibility to find them that i had an orginal tapecasette recording of it. I was lucky. I remember listening to it over and over. It was almost broken down. Now going through videos i came across the opening of this beautiful catata and it caught me in a moment. I realised it was the academy of ancient music again. This could not be a coincidence. 1) This video of this recording of these groups doing this cantata for by this composer has very quickly become one of my favorite things in the world. 2) These specific eight voices really bring the cantata to its full potential. Bach would be proud. 3) Voces8 should absolutely do more Bach cantatas. 4) In honor of Marja Kamp's comment, Jonathan Beyers executed perfectly Bach's arrangement of the cello line of Pachelbel's Canon at 8:21. 5) I like Jonathan's pensive expression throughout, and the face on his cello case.

I wonder what JS (Bach) would have said if he could have heard this absolute auditory masterpiece performed with such perfection. I've had it on repeat for months now and cannot stop listening to it. It's a funny thing, this music that we love. When you get that Bach is not a "romantic" composer. When you snap that Bach needs to be kept on time (rhythm). When you realise there are cadences. The entire piece is filled to the brim with fuges and you got that so beautifully in time and tune! The scale running so smoothly between voices at the start of iv. Chorus: Leite mich in deiner Wahrheit. 6:22 STUNNING!
