And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience- among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ-by grace you have been saved- and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

Amen! Gives nothing but credence too my new heart in Christ. I didn't know the Holy Bible or the Word, only confirmed by my need to know nothing except Him after being convicted and annointed by the Holy Spirit ; I read the Word of our Father every day, and came into finding what I experienced there. I know it's not anything I did but was by His Grace alone. The repentance came with the new heart and even though I will occasionally feel my weak flesh I cannot be any more knowing what Christ gave us with His Love. I do my best not too drive the nails , sinning actually hurts now immediately afterwards. Be the added commandment Christ gave us. May His Peace and Grace be on you all

I have a question: If mankind is so depraved that he or she is unable to repent, according to John Calvin, then how is this man, or for that matter, Paul Washer, able to stand up in the pulpit and preach like this? He's unable to repent as well, isn't he? He has no free will, just like all of us have no free will, according to John Calvin. If God predestined who is to become a Christian and who remains damned, how does he know he's even a Christian? God only knows who is and who isn't, according to John Calvin, right? And if Christ died for only a select few , according to John Calvin, how does he even know he's one of the select few Christ died for? Just my thoughts... See, the reason I ask these questions is because it seems that what John Calvin taught doesn't line up with Scripture. We have this beautiful thing called FREE WILL, meaning we have the ability to choose to do right or wrong. Yes, we are sinful, but we are able to make choices. However, according to John Calvin, we are robots who have no free will. Further, Jesus didn't die on the cross for a select few that only God knows about, He died for ALL people (John 3:16: For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that WHOSOEVER believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (Emphasis mine)). It is repeated over and over in Scripture that Christ died for ALL PEOPLE. That means salvation is open to ALL PEOPLE. Jesus is the gateway to God, but it seems to me that these preachers who adhere to John Calvin's teaching are trying to bar the gate closed and tell their congregations that they have to work their way in. They have to strive and struggle to get in, when in fact the gate is open and it's up to us to enter the gate.

It might be me, but I don't get it. If we are Christians, then we aren't 'dead' men. We aren't a 'rotting corpse'. The doctrine of Absolute Inability seems wrong, but setting that aside as assuming it's true. The sermon doesnt apply to the audience.

Yes, Christian aren't dead. But before we became Christians, we were dead in our trespasses and sins. We were unable to come to Christ because we were slaves to the devil, but God by His grace saved us, and changed our hearts of stone, which made us willing to come to the knowledge of the truth. This is the reason why it's all of Grace and God gets all the Glory. Ephesians 2:1‭-‬9 ESV For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another. But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. Titus 3:3‭-‬7 ESV This tell us that it is God who saves, we are powerless in saving ourselves. Missing out on the doctrine of Total depravity is missing out on the Gospel.

@@21stCenturyRevival Three questions: 1. Let's say you're 100% right. God saves, we do nothing, not even believe. Let's also say Jimmy doesn't know, care, or believe in this biblical doctrine. Why does he care if he has a personal relationship with God? It isn't relevant to him personally. It doesn't affect how he preaches as no preacher ever says "don't believe, don't repent, just sit there and wait for God to change you". They all say repent and believe like Christ. 2. So you're saying that Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob 'missed out on the Gospel'? Depravity is relevant to the Gospel, but how is Absolute Inability relevant to it? This doctrine didn't even exist until 400 AD, and that guy believed that you could 'regenerate' your baby by baptizing them. 3. If I preach about human depravity, the need for a savior, Christ's death and resurrection and how he paid the punishment for our sins. Then I give them the same command that Jesus gave to 'repent and believe',, what is the problem or what are they missing? If Absolute Inability is true, God will either 'regenerate' them or not and they'll believe or they won't. If Augustine and Martun Luther are correct them they'll get regenerated when they get baptized (good thing we still baptize babies, cause they get regenerated too!). If Provisionism is correct, then they'll get regenerated when they repent and believe. What am I not understanding? How does belief or knowledge or Absolute Inability change my daily life? How does it change my preaching to the lost? How does it change anything?
@21stCenturyRevival
@21stCenturyRevival 2 жыл бұрын
This is because, the true Gospel is revealed in knowing that we were dead and unable to repent, believe or become born again and come to thr knowledge of the truth by our capability. God is the initiator not dead men. Any Gospel that give Glory to Man or Rob God of His Glory is not the True Gospel of Jesus Christ. The is no room to boast, because God does it all, and takes all the Glory. The Gospel is a call to repentance, this doesn't mean people repentance by their own might. Repentance is from God through grace. Repentance is given by God. It's all of Grace. Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? Romans 2:4 ESV correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth, and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will. 2 Timothy 2:25‭-‬26 ESV God grants repentance. If God's grace that saves is absent, then no Man shall be saved, just as Jesus said... Jesus answered them, “Do not grumble among yourselves. No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day. John 6:43‭-‬44 ESV So salvation is 100% an act of God. It involves repentance, believing, being born again, sanctification and more, which are all by God's grace. We have no room to boast. This is the beauty of the Gospel. Christ did it all.

@@21stCenturyRevival I'll split this into two. I would appreciate a real response. My ultimate question from my previous response is how does knowledge about Absolute Inability (as you are promoting) change anything at all in my life as a believer or in the conversion process of a new believer? This doctrine didn't exist until the 1500s, so everybody prior to this didn't even believe in it. You are claiming that it is the Gospel itself, but I am skeptical. It doesn't seem necessary to understand it at all in order to be saved. The thief on the cross received the Gospel, yet did not have knowledge of the doctrine of Absolute Inability. The doctrine to an unbeliever would be complete nonsense and I've never heard it used in evangelism. According to Calvinism, knowledge of it wouldn't make you saved. So again, I ask, how does this 'knowledge' change anything for believers or non-believers?

@@21stCenturyRevival 'the true Gospel is revealed in knowing that we were dead and unable to repent' Which Bible verse says this? Which Bible verse says we are 'unable to repent'? When did Jesus say this? There is a secret Gospel behind the Gospel? 'God is the initiator not dead men' This is true. Calvinism, Lutheranism, Arminianism, and Provisionism all agree with this. It is undisputed. 'Any Gospel that give Glory to Man or Rob God of His Glory is not the True Gospel of Jesus Christ' Calvinism, Lutheranism, Arminianism, and Provisionism give all the credit to God. Romans 4 addresses this. It says that "For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about", but "Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness". Belief in God is NOT boast worthy or meritorious. The Bible literally says so. Faith is not a work in any of the soteriology. You cannot claim that faith is a work or boast worthy and still be biblical. 'God does it all, and takes all the Glory' This is probably a misunderstanding of the roles of grace, salvation, and faith. Faith does nothing. Faith is non-meritorious. Faith has no power. Faith does not save you. Faith is like a dirty rag. God tells us in scripture that he chooses to save us by his grace through faith. Faith is the road that God chose that leads to salvation, but faith does not actually save us. It is God's grace that does the work, it is by the power of God that we are made alive. Under all of the soteriologies listed above, God take all of the glory. 'The Gospel is a call to repentance, this doesn't mean people repentance by their own might' One Bible verse that says we can't do what Jesus commanded us to do? I'm not aware of any. The Bible seem to say the opposite. "For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith." And "For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart" The Gospel is a supernatural act that pierces our soul and Spirit and is revealed to us FOR our faith. When or how is the living Word of God, the Gospel, NOT sufficient? This just seems so unbiblical. I haven't seen a single verse that says what you are saying. 'unless the Father who sent me draws him' All of the soteriologies agree with this. John 12:32 "And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself". God draws all men to His Son. God is the initiator, not man. God "desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth". God is "not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance". We are simply responders to a God who loved us first. 'God grants repentance' Grant means to 'allow' or 'enable'. All of the soteriologies agree with this. It doesn't mean effectual. 'If God's grace that saves is absent, then no Man shall be saved' All of the soteriologies agree with this. It is God's grace that saves us through our faith. Without grace, faith is a meaningless worthless dirty rag. 'So salvation is 100% an act of God' Amen! 'We have no room to boast. This is the beauty of the Gospel. Christ did it all.' Amen! 'It involves repentance, believing, being born again, sanctification and more, which are all by God's grace' All of the soteriologies agree with the statement above, but I think you're meaning more than what it says. You're saying God effectually makes people believe, repent, and have faith. Us believing by God's grace doesn't mean it is effectual. There is no Bible verse that says that belief, repentance, or faith are effectual. It says "Abraham believed God", not "God gave Abraham belief". I am sincere in asking this, what am I missing? I've been studying soteriology for the past 6 months trying to understand it. All of the soteriologies agree with most of what you said, it is only the effectual part that is in disagreement. There doesn't seem to be any verse that directly says God effectually makes anybody have belief, repentance, or faith. You claim that the 'effectual' part is the 'true Gospel', but this doesn't seem accurate. Even if the effectual part is correct, it is not directly taught in scripture. If one doesn't understand or believe in the 'effectual' part are they not saved? How is their life negatively impacted? How is their daily walk inferior to yours? Are they damned for not believing in Calvinism? Is Calvinism the Gospel?

Total depravity? Total inability? Really? There are four types of soil, or hearts, according to Jesus. Only one was so hard the word was stolen out of it. The fourth was a good heart and received the word. The other two did receive the word, yet in the end bore no fruit for various reasons. So Scripture does not support such an idea.

According to Calvin, the meaning of repent (Metanoia) = A change of mind totally is incorrect, what is the point of saying you need to change your mind which represents a free choice from unbelief to belief but according to point one (T) of Calvinism total depravity nullifies what Jesus and John the Baptist was telling us to do making Calvinism not make sense. What about Adam and Eve God clearly gave them a free choice if God (and he knew already) they were going to fall did he already predestined them to go to Hell before they fell OR did God choose them to be saved as we do not know 100 per cent from scripture they were saved, if not than what was the whole point of Mankind, Calvin was preaching heresy...Free Grace of Jesus Christ is indeed free and simple! FREE CHOICE!! “For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. Matthew” 7:8 “You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart”. Jeremiah 29:13 “For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day”. John 6:40 When we encounter conflicting opinions about gospel truths, it is good to remember that “God is not the author of confusion, but of peace” (1 Corinthians 14:33).

Are you so depraved that you cannot read John 3:16-18 and believe it? First Corinthians 1:21 For after that, by the wisdom of God, the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God, by the foolishness of preaching to save them that BELIEVE. John 3:18. Romans 6:23 For the penalty for sin is death, BUT, ( the good news) the GIFT of God is ETERNAL LIFE through Jesus Christ our Lord. Not faith and not a reward for good behavior, but a FREE GIFT. Paid in full by Jesus one blood sacrifice for the sins of the whole world. Romans 3:26-28 For He is the JUST and the JUSTIFIER of them that BELIEVE in Jesus. Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? By the law of works? Nay, but by the law of FAITH. Therefore, we conclude a man is justified by faith apart from the deeds of the law. For by the deeds of the law shall no flesh be justified. Galatians 2:21 I do not void the grace of God, for if RIGHTEOUSNESS come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain. Romans 11:6 Romans 4:5-6.
