I ordered mine at Menards. Also found this one on Amazon. They were the same price but Menards had an 11% off. Different names even though they look almost identical.
Update: I also purchased the Ashley Hearth Wood stove from amazon for my apartment. When I took the damper out I could really feel a draft coming down without the top plate with strong smell of the creosote. In my parents place this didn't happen. They had no issues, I however installed the top plate on both places keep the down draft from coming in. without that top plate it may put a creosote smell into your home.

I installed this in '21. First off, I cleaned the chimney itself. Then I insulated the liner. Then I used a cutting disc to notch the damper at the bottom to ease running the liner down to the bottom & to keep the liner from compressing. For added peace of mind, I sealed the connection to the stove with firebrick cement, then filled the open areas around & behind the stove with fireblock insulation. Every bit of heat produced comes directly from the front, with nothing building up around it. All in all, it's a time consuming project if doing it solo (took me 11 hours). I'll take it, since I know I saved a boat load in labor costs. All in all, nice video. 👍🏾

Thanks for the Video! I'm a retired mason, who has built many a fireplace. I am moving to Baja and the home has a fireplace that has a wood burner connected into the flu of the fireplace. Someone also installed a FAN to exhaust the smoke. (I will fix it, but I suspect whomever built it didn't know what they were doing! I will most likely CUT OUT the necessary area to drop in the liner, and then use a mix of FIRECLAY and CEMENT to close up the hole! ;)

This is awesome. Videos like this are so great. Showing the whole process, no editing, this is the only way to learn how to do something like this. Comparing this to something you would see on a home reno show, even some here on youtube, where everything is perfect, they cut between shots and show 5 seconds of each process and everything always fits together easily, I prefer this every time.

It's extremely important to install that top plate! Otherwise soot will run down between the old flue and new metal liner and can build up behind the insert. This can easily cause a chimney fire. You also want to clean the flue very well before installation. Insulating the liner with a high temperature ceramic insulation is important also because it not only keeps the liner warmer which increases draft and keeps it cleaner, but it also helps stop heat from transferring through the chimney to wood house structure.

Hello what is a direct connect flex liner ?
@752brickie
@752brickie Жыл бұрын
@@1980Elplacerdeviajar Carlos it is a flexible stainless steel most time made of 304 unless you are burning coal and then it needs to be 316 stainless steel. You run it down the chimney and use a connector that is usually screwed to the top of the stove where the flue collar has holes drilled in it. Then there is either a flex wrap of kaowool insulation usually held on with spray glue. If there is no room for the flex wrap a lot of times the opening is sealed above the stove and a mixture of perlite is mixed and poured in to help insulate the liner. Then a top plate is usually glued to the flue liner and a flashing and cap are installed. Some times it is necessary to knock out the clay liners to get enough room. Hope this helps you .

I have one that came with the house that I just bought. I don't know if the flex pipe is insulated but there is some kind of cement looking stuff around the flex pipe at the top of the old chimney. I have tried to light a fire in it twice so far. Both times a lot of smoke came out of the door of the insert. When I closed the door it killed the fire that I was trying to start inside. Some smoke was exiting the top of the chimney but too much was coming out the door of the insert. There is some buildup of creosote at the top of the chimney. I hope a good cleaning will fix the problem. The guy before me obviously was using the thing. But I am having a problem. Additionally a lot of cold air is somehow getting into the old chimney and coming out of the fireplace around the insert.

If you haven’t installed it yet, get a package of rockwool insulation from lowes or Home Depot. You cut it with a long bread knife or insulation knife. You can slice the pieces in half which makes them about 2 inches thick after being cut. Wrap them around your liner and use wire tie ( a roll cost like 10 bucks) bailing wire to hold it in place. Rockwool is actually listed for this use and is completely safe. Rockwool can be used as a fireblock. Cost you 50 bucks for the whole deal. And yes, you want the pipe insulated. It helps keep the pipe hot to prevent Creosote formation and give better draft.
