@@Voiceacting101 hello mr jason I wanted to start working with voices.com and I really like your videos and guides about it so wanted to ask how the projects are there as I see in audiobooks before some of books are so short which are divided into 10 12 14 minutes in 12 or 14 parts so are the projects always the same or the will change as I'm new here so I'm worried about it.

I have always enjoyed talking in different accents or making random funny sounds. I like the creative side of it. I however never thought about voice acting till one of my close friends told me a have a lot of potential and I should look into it. The first thing he did was introduce me to your videos. I am very happy he did.

As much as i would LOVE to get premium on Voices.com because they are the top notch in the voice acting at home community, i dont have 500$ in my pocket and bank account... my best plan right now is hope for a job in the future and work at free websites...

My voice is deep as hell, I try to get it clearer because sometimes I hear it in myself and the self awareness makes me wonder if I'm sounding right or like I'm forcing it.

Thanks Sergio. Glad it's helping you. Any audio editing software works. Audacity and Adobe Audition are the main ones used, but Garageband is fine as well.

If you just want to record your voice and practice, yes - you could start with a headset. But if you want to get paid to do voice-over - no, the quality of a headset just won't be good enough.

My very first audio editing software was Cool Edit Pro. Adobe bought it and made it Adobe Audition. I love the features and it's perfect for voice-over. Audacity works too (and is free) but isn't as easy to use.

It's absolutely insane that I have to pay $500 just to audition for jobs. I mean why don't they charge us $25 for a month to use their website. I don't wanna spend $500 on this business and end up not having any clients. I'm sick of losing money.

If someone is just starting, would you recommend they aim for short and sweet projects to get their feet wet? It just seems like keeping it to 30-90 second spots at first makes more sense than tackling more lengthy narration.

Hi Michael - I usually treat auditions just like paid work. So all the same processing and cleanup - I have presets and shortcuts so I can do it at a fast pace. Each audition takes about 3 minutes to complete.

What about becoming and actor/actress for a tv show character? Like if u wanted a job as the main character for a kids cartoon?

There isn't as much of that kind of work available and most of it would go an agency. So you'd want to look into getting a voice-over agent that specialized in that niche.

Great video! One question, when someone is just starting out on voices.com is it NECESSARY to pay for that expensive $500 premium membership to get work or can that wait until once i start making money to upgrade at a later time? If you would, may we exchange emails?

They offer a free account but you can only audition for private jobs (where a client specifically picks you). With the paid membership you can audition for public jobs so you have more opportunities to audition / better chance at landing jobs. Yes - Audacity or any other audio recording software is fine. It makes no difference in quality. Adobe Audition just has more features which come in handy when working with voice-over every day.

I noticed your demo didn't include slates, usually I don't do them either because I feel like it detracts from the character or narration you're playing/doing

Years ago I would slate everything. But in recent years nearly every audition I do requests no slating so I've stopped doing it and usually save my name within the file name. As someone who has hired vo talent in the past, I can see how slating slows down the audition review process.

*With audio files, there is no need to "slate", as you should include your name in the title of the audio file you are sending out. To slate would be redundant !!! Slating is old school, when demos were made on CD, or worse, **#CASSETTE** !!*

All I get when selecting a job is being directed to a page where I am supposed to pay to even see the details of a job. It says you get a basic free level to "be discovered on the Voices marketplace", but this doesn't seem to exist. $3,000 up front seems like a lot as a fee if you make $200 as income. Is voices.com also a scam?

The free level limits you to private auditions. Paid gives you access to many, many public auditions.

so I started a go fund me campaign to become a voice actor I put my goal as 800 dollars for equipment. I've watched your videos for awhile and guys like troy baker and chris sabat which anime video games and cartoons are my ultimate goal but this looks really fun . I'm at about 80 percent of my goal any suggestions on type of mic you would suggest

This was a great video man, this may be a little too personal but do you really get paid with this thing? I know that sounds like a silly question but I have heard a lot of bad things about this website and I definitely don't want to pay the premium fee if I'm not gonna be able to go anywhere with it. Learning that they even have a platinum and platinum unlimited tier definitely makes me want to stray away. Not all of us can afford $3000 to 5000 a year. Exspecially just starting out

Yes - voice actors are paid well. And pay to play sites (like voices) bring clients with scripts to your inbox every single day. That said, there is a ton of competition on these sites, so you've gotta have confidence in your ability to land jobs, otherwise it's just practice.

Most clients want to only hear your voice - no music. The only time I ever include music for an audition is if they provide the music track.

I only have one question. I'm trying to get started on Voices.com but it's saying that I have to be come a premium member to be able to do anything. When I click on a job offer, it brings me to a screen that says "select your account" and then says guest or premium but it won't let me select anything but the sign up button which brings me to the premium payment screen.

You need a premium account to submit an audition for a public posting. The free account allows you to submit auditions for private postings (if someone found you on the site and specifically requests a demo from you).

@@Voiceacting101 Ah ok. So as a guest I can only audition for people that specifically request me. Welp that makes things much more difficult to get started in my situation. Being a college student-athlete doesn't leave much time to have job so it's not like I can just save the money to buy a premium membership. Thanks for letting me know!

Do they generally tell you eat file format they want? If not, should you send .wav or mp3?

Most will tell you. If they don't, it's usually safe to go with an mp3. Then WAV and AIFF.

I started around the age of 13 or so. It really depends on the person and how serious they take it. Success in VO requires dedication.

It's competitive. If anyone isn't booking on Voices, I'd suggest getting a VO evaluation to make sure the audition submitted is the best it can be.

You have to have a paid membership to submit auditions to public jobs. If someone finds and likes your demo, they can invite you to a private audition, which you can do using the free account. But the odds of them finding you on a free account are slim.
