Ian James Corlett, the voice of Cheetor on Beast Wars, and the original voice of Goku on Dragon Ball Z discusses the 75% rule at TFcon.

Corlett was the best English voice for Goku. While Schemmel is good acting wise, the pitch sounds a bit too low. Nevertheless, he has a good range. Corlett, however, has the perfect pitch for how Goku should sound. Schemmel still does a good job screaming for Goku.

Hands down THE best Goku. Perfectly matched the innocent nature. Sean Schemmel is just a Superman rip, and Goku deserved better imo.

I always found Ian’s Goku to be the most mature and grounded, and more gentle. Kinda the straight man Goku to Sean Schemmel’s more wild and bombastic Goku.

Ian James Corlett was Goku in the ocean dub from ep 1-37, Peter Kalamis was ep 38-53 and Sean Schemmel was from ep 54 onwards, which if you recall was the episode where everything infamously changed to funimation dub, everyone’s voice actors changed. Ian James Corlett was easily the best Goku for me. Essentially, Bruce Faulconer’s music score for the funimation dub was in my opinion better, but the voice actors in the original ocean dub were far better. It is a shame there isn’t a dub which combines ocean dub voice actors with Bruce Faulconer’s music score.

2:00 I had a job like that at a warehouse. It was production pay not hourly pay, unloading trailers. There were three people sitting there at a table watching what we would do, kind of like reality game show judges. When I got my pay check, it was about half minimum wage, but I never came back. I think it was from the overtime when they were there writing everything down.
