I just wanted to say how great these videos are! I have a terrible voice and a low register...bass-baritone...I started as a G2- G3. Very low. After a few weeks of practice, I have increased my range to my target goal of C4. I couldnt believe I could even get there. A3-C4 was very difficult and my voice always cracked and switched into falsetto. Now I sing C4 effortlessly and can even stretch to D4 and E4 on occasion if I really push. I just want to say thank you! I still have a long way to go in pitch and intonation but its made singing so much more enjoyable. Its no fun since I saw red from warrant in a C3!!!

Honestly, I did not appreciate Ken's videos as I do now when I first started to learn how to sing. I now realize that Ken's videos are for those that have gone through a decent amount of trial and error to have experiences and knowledge to understand his videos. Ken, you may not know it because it may be a total norm for you. BUT what you teach and the examples you give are purely from your experience and a great understanding of your audience and students. Some of your videos may not be appealing to new singers as those videos may require viewers to have a fair share of experience before being able to fully grasp the reasoning and explanation you give but that's what separates you from the other teacher/coaches. I really appreciate your effort and how you share your knowledge in a carefree manner. I did not understand back then but now it makes sense to me, more than any others' videos I've watched. P.S: This is not limited to this particular video of yours.

There is one point about the head voice - often one can't free his voice and do it right so there is a kind of strain. That's because women are afraid it will sound like a strangled cat and man are afraid they will sound like women :) But your videos show how one can free his voice and sound great! I have a very deep and distinctive break between my head and chest voice. I've been training my voice & chest voice but scared of the transition between the two.

Ken, I practiced for a long time and was able to relax and "flow" from chest to head pretty easily. I could sing along with Geoff Tate and Chris Cornell on most songs. Then..all of a sudden, during a 'strenuous activity' with by girlfriend (not singing or using my mouth for anything that would cause me to ingest something hazardous) I felt a weird sensation in my throat, like there was a pea caught in my larynx. It cut out my mid range and I could no longer flow like I did. One day I had it, the next day it was gone. I hadn't had any vocal lessons and was figuring it all out on my own, so maybe I just messed up my voice and it just happened to snap at that point. I went to an ear, nose, throat doctor and they coudn't find anything either. They just guessed *maybe it was my thyroid that happened to kick out and messed up my voice. I have never heard a reasonable answer how it could happen that my personal range from 1 to 10 (falsetto being 5 to 10 and chest being 1 to 6) that that mid section from 4 to 7 was just gone. My voice would crack and "air out" without any sound like I just hit puberty or something. Any ideas on what happened or how to get past it?

Something caused you to blow out the passaggio area of your voice, the transition between chest voice and head voice. Normally that can be rehabilitated and brought back on line. Not sure what the "pea" was but if it caused you to cough a lot or anything like that, that could explain what happened to your voice..

When I was in my school choir, when I was a sweet, innocent schoolboy and before I sold my soul to Santa (I think) and became a heavy metal singer, we used to warm up in a very similar way, with the phrase, "Barely sorry, oh,", which came out as "Beh-eh-ly-soh-re, oh", so we covered the octave.
