Casting Brian Stokes Mitchell as Jethro was a stroke of genius. And pairing him with Stephen Schwartz’s music was just icing on the cake! Incredible pieces of music like this are what happens when you cast Broadway level talent in musical movies.

A little fun fact: the "lai-lai-lai" part is actually an example of nigun, which is a type of Jewish religious song characterized by repetitive vocalizations like "lai-lai-lai" or "bim-bim-bam"! Nigunim act as a way to elevate our souls towards HaShem. Love your videos

this is my fav song from the movie.. I also really like the small touch they did at the end when the song ends but you can still hear the drum beats in the distance.. it makes it seems like the celebration/song never really ends, which is an interesting concept in itself. like the true song never ceases.. life as a celebration

I'm not religious, but this movie and soundtrack never fails to give me goosebumps, especially this song and the River Lullaby. "Heavens Eyes" is such an important song to me. For the first part of my life, I never really gave much thought to any gods or religions, but that all changed eight years ago. In 2015, I was in a major car accident in which I barely survived. While in hospital, I couldn't get the idea of my near-death experience out of my head, and it led to some sleepless nights. One night, I watched Prince of Egypt out of pure whim, and this song made me think differently. I began to realize that someone above must have intervened in my accident, saving me for some reason. As I had been a history nut for years, I decided to adopt Hellenic Polytheism, which is the belief in the Ancient Greek Gods in layman's terms. After healing, I began looking at my life differently, and decided to make the most of it. Today, i have two university degrees, i have published a novel and have many more well into production, i have written and produced three songs that nearly made it to Spotify, I have attended so many concerts I have an entire dresser drawer devoted to the concert tees, and I have joined a charity service group called Kinsmen to give back to my community. This song changed my life forever, and shaped the way I see life in general.

Brian Stokes Mitchell is truly brilliant and his voice sounds like silk with the lung capacity of the entire brass section! It is one of the most fun pieces to perform and excellent for auditions as it’s a big of a forget gem but everyone agrees that PoE soundtrack is spectacular. Even as an atheist myself, I love the message of this story and this song in particular. It is a story of a man finding out who he is and going against expectations, throwing privilege, power, and safety away to find himself and his people. And this song is such a beautifully soft but ultimately triumphant scene of an elder providing the guidance and advice that you have to listen to heart and leap maybe before you think you’re ready and trust you can catch yourself and recover even if you miss a dance step or two. It’s so uplifting and a wonderful message ♥️
