Yes, it takes on a whole new meaning as an adult. As a child I just thought it sounded cool. But as an adult when life always tells you to buy more, hustle more, and then you’ll be somebody, I am glad to know God’s value system is so different than the one of the world. I’m happy living a simple life with my family. I’d love to have more money, but if it never comes, I’m rich in love and values.

What a beautiful movie this is. A little background info for those who are interested, just things that make this movie even better: Jeffrey Katzenberg, the founder of Dreamworks, while working for Disney, has always wanted to do a Bible adaptation, but the then leader of Disney did not want that. So Katzenberg, instead of abandoning his idea, and after growing more disillusioned with Disney, took the first opportunity after creating Dreamworks to create this adaptation. He consulted both Christian and Muslim theologians to make sure it turned out as accurate and great as possible, and these theologians worked together to help create this work of art. He never cared how much the film will make, he wanted to see his vision become reality and he set out to make it one, no matter what. This was a project made out of pure love and not an ounce of greed, and THIS is why it has become such a legendary piece. I'm grateful he saw the project through so we could enjoy it even after 23, almost 24 YEARS!

That's the trick. Realizing that no one, regardless of their social and emotional wellbeing, knows all the steps. You can spend a lot of time learning and trying to adjust your perceptions and beliefs about yourself, but the only way to truly grow is to start experiencing life firsthand. That's the true catalyst for positive change. Granted, it's easier said than done with people who have more debilitating conditions, but the core idea still holds true.

This film does something most Biblical films fail to do -- it humanizes Moses. He struggles to build a new life for himself, he finds himself serving a God he barely knows, and he is genuinely conflicted over the things that God does. He even still retains respect and love for his brother the Pharoah even though he knows his heart is hard and his stubbornness leading to unimaginable pain and suffering. Now if someone would only make a film that does the same justice to Jesus...
@AzguardMike

the film ends on a depressing note too. He gets the commandments. And we all know what happens next when he returns to the camp of the Hebrew's he just saved. They are whoring, worshipping other God's, drinking, gorging, blaspheming. And God, the merciful deity that he is "Smite! Smite! Smite!!!"

0:21 It's pretty simple and short, but I really like how the camera shifts to show Tzipporah's expression after Moses humbles himself to Jethro, saying that he's done nothing in his life worth honoring. I like to imagine it as an eye-opening experience for her. She has this image of Moses constructed in her mind of this spoiled and entitled Egyptian prince, but all it takes is that one self-reflective comment that he makes and you can see that she's left having to completely rethink her perspective of his character. It's a small detail, but I think it's underrated.

The entire soundtrack to this movie is just so epically emotive. Deliver Us is tragic, desperate, with the beautiful ending note of love and hope. All I Ever Wanted deceives you ripping you out of your comfort zone with a paradigm shift. Heaven's Eyes embraces you and then uplifts you. Playing With The Big Boys amuses and frustrates you. Plagues terrifies you and rips that hope away. When You Believe pulls you out of your unsteadiness to pure joy and love. Seriously, I go on an emotional rollercoaster every time I hear them. I was about to write this! It's a great transition, especially when the song is about viewing one's life through "heaven's eyes" - in other words, seeing the greater picture of your life and how it connects to everything else. Thus how much we see Moses' life progress in these 3 minutes (which, in the movie, of course, is probably several years) connects with the message of the song - all of these little moments that we see of Moses' life with these people over several years are part of a greater picture. And it's all so fluid and well done that the audience barely even questions how several years progress in 3 minutes! (Technically in the bible he stays with Jethro for around 40 years, but, obviously they didn't want that much of a time gap in the movie.)
@QuantumWalnut
@QuantumWalnut 5 жыл бұрын
The impressive thing about this scene is that you don't even realize how much time skip they did in less than 4 minutes. By visual cue, it is implied that many years had passed since Moses first attended that bonfire dance. The writers need to get Moses back to Egypt as quickly as possible (because, you know, that iconic scene), but they must also give him enough time in the tribe to experience an emotional transformation. Now consider you only have less than 4 minutes to do that as a writer/animator, how are you going to do that while weaving a musical sequence into the plot? I can see animation students going back to study this film even today.

as an atheist, it's often bugged me how people go "this is really good despite being a bible movie", or something to that effect. There is no "but" about this movie. The bible has epic stories that have a point for the believers, and this movie would NOT be as good if it didn't take that religiousness seriously. This movie is moving BECAUSE it's about faith. Whether or not I believe doesn't matter. I enjoy seeing other people's beliefs (I actually love the Hindu faith the best because their stories and gods feel so human to me), and if Moses means this much to people, then how can you NOT be moved?

I love how GENUINE Jethro's singing is. You can FEEL the absolute PASSION in his soul as he sings, because he KNOWS that what he's saying is more valuable to Moses than anything that's ever been spoken to him by man, and his heart cannot contain it. The final verse always shakes me; the way he's singing isn't just a song - this song is a prayer, a PSALM. His faith is so STRONG, steadfast, and true. He will never give up his God for anything. You can hear the goodness in his heart echoing through each word, and you suddenly feel welcomed, brought home. You're family now. THAT'S how God's Word is supposed to make you feel. My favorite part of this Song is the added detail of Moses enjoying dancing but he dosent know how maybe he thinks he'll embarrass himself or is just bad but he likes it and we see him be awkward and nervous while dancing BUT when he gets married he's so happy and full of love and joy he starts dancing with his now wonderful wife just a lovely little detail

Keep going. Keep trying. Something greater is on the horizon. I'm not religious and I won't claim to be...but I will say, have faith that things will get better. Sometimes we must struggle and fall down to learn a lesson that will build us up again. We just have to be willing to listen to what life or the universe is trying to tell us. Don't fight the forces. There's a saying that if you make plans and no matter what, everything seems to go bad (it rains, it's too cold, flat tire, etc etc), it's the universe keeping you from a terrible fate. Listen to it. You are seen and loved and cared for, and I send only positive vibes and energy your way. I hope it finds you well and you find yourself smiling soon, from ear to ear. Take care, remember to breathe, don't forget to really LIVE, and stay safe. ♥ Lots of love ^_^

I've had the pleasure of attending Passover Seder at a Messianic Jewish church. As well as hearing the story of Esther read aloud. The joy and community of the people can simply not be contained and it takes on a new tone with them knowing in their hearts that their Messiah really has come for them. As though all their long history of suffering and hard labor has truly been worth it. One of the church members is even old enough to remember living in East Germany. Her family escaped the Holocaust only to live through that nightmare. She is just blind in her joy though. Whatever new thing comes over the horizon, she knows that it's all taken care of.

Well the entire point is that the perspective you need is one of godly origin. As the song said, a human can only see one string and never the entire tapestry. A million humans can only see a million strings and still not the tapestry. You can gather millions and billions of strings and all you will see are repeating patterns on a pile of strings. You will never know what a tapestry is because you don't acknowledge that the strings are a piece of decoration being hung on a wall. You need to acknowledge that there is a wall in the first place and your tapestry is only beautiful because it sits over a wall. An atheist that does not believe in a wall, in a god, will never know what a tapestry is because all you will see is an expanse of woven strings you can't even see the edge of.

Anyway, I’ve watched this movie again today, and my brother who also hasn’t seen it in a long time, recited the lyrics to the songs of the movie. I'd like to add that this song shows how we can never see ourselves as God sees us- once we repent and are forgiven, He truly sees us as His children: imperfect but loved. He knows how valuable we are to Him, and though we fail to see it, His purpose for us is so, so important. We must also look through Heaven's eyes in order to see how He works through those around us. ❤

@@adamandeveourfirstparents4709 Yes and the story of Moses is based on religious beliefs, but the way this movie is made isn't so forced and unrealistic. it shows emotions for how they are, and that Bible characters are human too. They feel doubt and worry just like the rest of us. You can also see Moses finding his self worth and purpose throughout the film, like a lot of people struggle with themselves. It shows you can always redeem yourself and find your path in life. It gives multiple messages that you can use in life (for ex: finding self love) that can stick with people and impact them besides the typical "follow God now or you'll burn" type of forced message a lot of legalistic religious people push. Even the Biblical references used can be tied to every day life lessons and can give you a different perspective to life. So for it to impact everyone, no matter who or what they believe in, is a blessing!

I doubt we will ever go back to movies that actually decide to tell mature stories and lessons towards younger audiences. But one can hope...

One of the most beautiful sequences in a beautiful movie. Moses' entire life had been destroyed with the discovery that everything he'd believed was a lie- and now he gets to build a new one, with the aid of new friends and the woman he grows to love. You could almost make a entire movie out of the events of this montage alone.

A single thread in the tapestry Though it's color brightly shine Can never see it's purpose In the pattern of the grand design And the stone that sits on the very top Of the mountain's mighty face Does it think it's more important Than the stones that formed the base? So how can you see What your life is worth Or where your value lies? You can never see through the eyes of man You must look at your life Look at your life through heaven's eyes. (3x) Ai lai lai lai Le lai lai Lai lai lai lai lai Le lai lai Lai lai lai le lai lai Lai lai lai lai lai lai La la la la lai lai A lake of gold in the desert sand Is less than a cool, fresh spring And to one lost sheep, a shepherd boy Is greater than the richest king If a man lose everything he owns Has he truly lost his worth? Or is it the beginning Of a new and brighter birth? So how do you measure the worth of a man In wealth, or strength or size? In how much he gained Or how much he gave? The answer will come The answer will come to him who tries To look at his life through heaven's eyes And that's why we share we have with you Though there's little to be found When all you've got is nothing There's a lot to go around No life can escape being blown about By the winds of change and chance And though you never know all the steps You must learn to join the dance YOU MUST LEARN TO JOIN THE DANCE Ai lai lai lai Le lai lai Lai lai lai lai lai Le lai lai Lai lai lai le lai lai Lai lai lai lai lai lai Ai lai lai lai Le lai lai Lai lai lai lai lai Le lai lai Lai lai lai le lai lai La la la la la la la la Ai lai lai lai Le lai lai Lai lai lai lai lai Le lai lai Lai lai lai le lai lai Lai lai lai lai lai So how do you judge what a man is worth? By what he builds or buys? You can never see with your eyes on Earth Look through heaven's eyes Look at your life, look at your life Look at your life through HEAVEN'S EYES!!!

THIS.....THIS is why I will ALWAYS celebrate the smallest of victories. I have never come from much. I'm better off than some, worse than others. But I know what it is to have nothing and to struggle. Every good thing in life deserves to be celebrated, even mistakes, for they're proof of growth and learning. We are but a speck on this earth. Never demand life give you something. Be grateful always for what you have, no matter how little it may be. Give thanks for your life, for the struggles you possess and are moving through, because something bigger and brighter is coming your way. Keep pushing on, and smile, knowing that others have been there too. You're not alone. We are but a speck in the grand scheme of it all, but we can have such a lasting impact on this world. Don't fill your heart with hate. Forgive the ones that have wronged you, and above all else, forgive yourself. Learn to love, to see your life from the outside looking in. Whether you see it or not, you have something in your life that someone else envies. Treasure all that you can, while you can, because we are temporary beings and time is ever fleeting. And NEVER....EVER.....EVER....forget to LIVE. Laugh with your whole gut, with wild abandon. Dance and sing like no one is watching. Wave to a stranger that passes you, and enjoy the fruits of this world. I wish you all prosperity, love, forgiveness, hope, peace, and courage in the world. You are seen and loved!! ♥

I've been a Christian for my entire life, and I've always had a strong faith in the gospel and God and the Trinity and everything, but I have a friend who wasn't grown up like in the same teachings or ways that I was. She was always down on herself and extremely strict with herself. Whenever she was talking bad about herself or saying she wasnt good enough or that she had ruined too much, I would show her this video. And every time after she watches it, I talk to her after. I connect her and Moses. I tell her that no matter what she has done, she can be forgiven. I tell her that she is more than she thinks she is worth. And I also say this to whoever is reading this. You are more than you think you are. You are amazing and beautiful. I hope you have a good day ❤

@ElongatedVowels

M. Padilla To be fair, at least The 10 Commandments tried to stay close to the source material. Exodus is a summer action flick that I can already tell will be nowhere near accurate to the original story.

ElongatedVowels Also (I can't seem to edit comments on mobile), The Ten Commandments had a white cast because it was the 1950s. A major black (or any minority) actor in hollywood in the 50s? I don't think so. We live in the year 2014 and some white Australian dude with a bad tan is playing an ancient Egyptian pharaoh? Inexcusable.

@m.q.7149 9 жыл бұрын
ElongatedVowels That's a good point. I'm not too familiar with Ancient Egyptian history. But wasn't their society mixed because of the Romans and Greeks? Also I think they chose Christian Bale because he was Batman and draws a big audience. Who do you think should be playing Ramses and Moses?
@ElongatedVowels
@ElongatedVowels 9 жыл бұрын
In the classical period and onward, Egypt did have a much more ethnically and culturally homogenous society because of Greek, Roman, Arab, etc. influence. But at this point in history (during which the Exodus takes place, somewhere around 1500 BC) the majority of the free Egyptian population was of the native Egyptians (khemet), i.e. black African people. And honestly, I couldn't care less who plays who. As long as they're good actors and actually representative of the culture their portraying.

I absolutely loved this movie as a kid. Watched it over and over. My grandma owned this on DVD and borrowed all the time. It amazed me that a story I grew up knowing could be made into such a pretty movie. Now being older I understand the meanings and art put together so that this movie could be made. That what makes it such a masterpiece, it appeals to children because it's a easily understood film, but also appeals to older people because of its symbolism and story. I'm happy to have grown up knowing this movie, and loving it even then.

The part that ALWAYS hits me is the “ the stone that sits atop of the mountains mighty face doesn’t think it’s better than the one that forms it’s base , so how can you know what your life is worth or where your value lies if you can’t see your life through heavens eyes“ As someone who is always too hard on myself feeling like a constant screw up because I’m not as far along as where I want to be in life has me depressed until this lyric hit.. who am I to say I haven’t made any impact on others or that I wouldn’t be missed if I was gone. Sometimes you have to look outside your self and see yourself how others see you , while I may not think my life is all that great others around me who say I’ve changed their life would disagree. Life really is what you choose to make of it , if you only feed your brain negative thoughts you’ll only experience negativity. I see this now !
