This is Angelina's tribute to Aretha Franklin, performed within days of her idols death. Unlike other singers who paid tribute to the legend by imitating the style of Aretha . She slowed the tempo and her whole demeanour was one of great respect. You may have noticed that she did not give her enigmatic smile or cheerful wave at the end of the song but closed the performance with a 10 second black screen.

In the days after Aretha's death there were many people singing the big belty versions of her songs. Angelina went a different route. Angelina delivers this song with such respect. This is a person who's whole life is music, making a personal tribute to a fallen legend. You can hear the mourning in her voice, you can see the sorrow in her eyes. And to top it all off, she fades to black and leaves a 10 second "moment of silence" at the end of the video. ...and she made all these genius creative decisions at 12 years old.

@@YozhikvTumane I can understand missing the moment of silence... I did for the first several times of watching this one. And if someone watching it now doesn't notice the date of this video (and make the connection), I suppose they could miss the meaning of her arrangement also. But knowing that makes a big difference in how you hear it.

You know that whenever Angelina closes her eyes that she's about to take you along to her special place. In my opinion, the best covers are when a new artist reinterprets a classic piece of work rather than just trying to copy the original. There is joy in feeling comfortable with the familiar aspects, but then discovering new aspects of the song that the cover artist is able to illustrate. I think Angelina was incredibly respectful to the original in her arrangement, and the delivery was straight from her heart.

Valerie, thank you so much for another analysis of Angelina. As others have said, this was a tribute to one of her greatest musical influences, afew days after her passing. We all know she could belt it out if she chose to, but this was a solemn tribute to to one of the greatest jazz singers of all time & you can hear the sadness & respect in her voice. I know you like to see Angelina singing, but one of her most beautiful & emotional songs, ever, is her cover of Chris Isaac's Wicked Games. It's her playing keyboards & singing in her "music corner" of her house. You only see her playing for a short time in this beautiful fan-made video, but it is really worth it. You often refer to her use of negative space in her singing & this is the ultimate negative space version. She makes you wait & wait & wait for the note to come, & when it comes, it hits you right in the feels. This would be a valuable resource to use for your students. She strips it down, slows the tempo & uses so much negative space you could drive a truck through it. It's also one of the few songs she has done by herself. She has total control of the music & doesn't depend on other musicians trying to follow her. If you don't do a formal reaction, at least check it out for your students sake, they deserve seeing it. Here is the link. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3qkfnlqe6mZrZY

When she closes her eyes, she's not ignoring the viewers, it's her feeling the "passion", feeling the "soul", focusing on her interpretation on the song, searching within in herself, where she wants to take the song. She's in the "zone". And who wants her to copy the original? Not me!

I like how she goes to another inner place somewhere or better yet, somewhere else in the universe. She takes each song in most cases and makes it her own. I loved Aretha's version to start out!!! I have listened to this 10 plus times over the past few months and it makes me feel completely different that standard "belt it out" singers (much respect to them, however). I feel she is channeling human souls from afar in heaven, universe or some other place. It's amazing. I also had jazz start in 7th grade through university andn studied music comp at Fresno State. I love classical, to Gregorian chants, to pretty much everything except high pitched opera! ugh! Oh, and heavy speed metal. My point is, for some reason she touches me more than any other artist in my 50 plus years here. I would say Mozart and Debussy take me to some awesome places and Angelina does the same. Thanks for another awesome review. Listen to Nico Cartosio's song he wrote for Angelina specifically on his CD. Its called "Song for A." He wrote it for her to sing it. Trust me, listen to 15 seconds now. Then, review it per your normal course later. She can sing anything...except opera (I hope she surprises me).

I can think of no finer tribute to a singer than to take an iconic song this one and to do a performance that in no way challenges the original but adds a different dimension to it. Angelina does this beautifully and her many tributes all treat the originals with great respect while giving them a new and sparkling new life. It's like she's saying "Thank you for the beautiful music, I'm going to play with it now and based on what you made me feel let's see what I can come up with."

This vocal honestly has Patti Smith vibes. The fact that a girl from Norway who couldn’t legally drive in America until 2022 has the range to give me slight Patti Smith vibes while also being able to slay any jazz standard you give her the sheet music to fiddle around with and make it respectfully cooler is insane.

Angelina explained this in an interview why she closes her eyes when she sings, she said she goes into her special world a special place she said where she is in a beautiful place . This allows to focus and create magic with her voice. As a musician I know exactly what she is saying. Great reaction thanks for the support of the" New Barefoot Queen of Song" . your comments are absolute right!! Just in case you are not up on her history: Angelina is at level of vocal artistry seldom if ever seen for a young , besides her other talents , She is Norway's youngest published author at around 9 to 10 years old, she plays , piano, violin, flute, and guitar . Angelina does her musical arrangements and has been often observed directing professional musicians playing for her as to what she wants in a song. she is always in command when she performs in a very humble respectful manner to band members. Angelina is like no other I heave ever witnessed in her many abilities for one so young .she touches one right down to their heart and soul when she sings. (Angelina a short history ); Angelina has been singing since she was 1.5 years old (18 months started singing a Whitney Huston song , video on you tube of this here is the linkkzbin.info/www/bejne/jHvNeGlueculY5o at 1:55 on this video is her at 1.5 years old ) later she was taken by jazz and started singing jazz classics as her grandmother introduced her to jazz tunes. Her singing is her life and her passion . her mother tried to get her to sing nursery songs and she just flat out refused to involve her self in that nonsense. She is her own driving force no one dictates to her what she does in her singing or preparations, it is all her 110%. the following are her own songs . Won Norway's got talent at 7 to 8 years old has over 125 videos on line plus three of her own compositions and two that were written for her to sing , the first 3 she wrote and arranged herself, the last two were written for her to sing 1, Shield ,, kzbin.info/www/bejne/ooLXhpWMgMdjrNU 2. Oslo,, kzbin.info/www/bejne/bIHWh6hqnrOgjpI 3. What Is Life,, .kzbin.info/www/bejne/eKeTo2ptgLNqiKM 4. Above the water,, kzbin.info/www/bejne/iXSWd2OYgLCeabc 5. Song for A ("A" standing for Angelina) ,, kzbin.info/www/bejne/eKCWnpuuhbJgq6M Angelina had over 500 million views of her singing videos before her performance on AGT The Champions now her views are in the billions . Angelina was well known all over the world except in America up until her AGT Champions , mini concert. She sings bare foot since she was 6 years old to honor a bare foot orphan he met girl around her own age around 6 years old whom had no shoes and had scars on her feet, she weighing people on a bathroom scale to support her and her siblings. Angelina at six years old took her shoes off and gave them to this poor girl, and Angelina has performed on stage in honor of the pledge she made to her not to sing on stage with shoes on form then on . Angelina has honored that pledge for last 8 years . Angelina takes on a different voice for each song she covers to give homage to the song, and never tries to show off her vocal abilities but always gives each song its due respect. Angelina has a 5 octave range and her low note ability is just mind blowing for a pre-teen or now at just a mere 14 years as of Jan. 10 ,2020. Angelina can sing any genre and excel at it many times better than the original artist.

I missed You nice to see You back with Angelina's wonderful "re-covers" This beautiful rendition was made as respectful Tribute to one of her favourite Singer bit slowed down and inverted but more tributes than takes away from the Song and revealed the Core meaning of the lyrics .. Here I have One that I would like to hear Your opinion about and that is Wicked Game : kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3qkfnlqe6mZrZY In my opinion absolute masterpiec even she is just jamming at home playing on the piano and trying out this Song ~ Thanks dear for your informative analysis and comments and I totally agree with everything You said about Angelina going into her inner World to bring out those feelings and emotions that really shouldn't com out of a Child simply because of lack of reference to real life, but as You know all Knowledge comes from within and it seems like Angelina has always known that and utilizes it in her every Song. Yes we know She can and does Tackle almost every Song Styles and Genres from any Era.. But she has Her own unique Style She calls ; "Heart to Heart" or "Soul to Soul" meaning She connects to Her Audiences Soul to Souls 💗 Her Style shines through every song she sings.. of all the 400+ Reactors I have watched All of them say the same; They can Feel Her Sing not only Hear Her Sing 🥰 In Her Own words; Her mission is to "Spread Love around the World with Her Singing" 💗 and She is doing just that ~ OneLove ~ JBB

There is a difference between a singer and an artist. Singer can change the colors of a song and make it her style. An artist can take the same song, rearrange the colors and strokes, and created a newer song. You can still see her signatures on both pieces of work, but they are vastly different. Angelina is moving towards the artistic realm and the music world is better for it.

If closing her eyes is the biggest flaw in her performances, then she has no problems at all. That's a pretty nit picky thing for someone to fault her on. Her eyes certainly don't diminish her voice. Eyes open or shut doesn't affect what you hear. If you listen to anything on the radio, or a album you certainly don't see the artist and that doesn't devalue the experience. If you haven't done it yet and you want something new, try "SHIELD". It's pretty much her newest and she wrote it herself. There is a live version of it before a TV studio audience and a music video version. Take your pick. Also you could try "I'M STILL HOLDING OUT FOR YOU". My personal favorite is "WHEN WE WERE YOUNG". It's live at a outdoor venue when she was about 13 and it's great.

@@Rosannasfriend Valerie didn't criticize her for it, someone in previous comments did and Valerie pretty much defended AJ doing it. I was agreeing with her on it.

I completely agree with the thought that when AJ closes her eyes it is because she is going to that place which gives her meaning to the music. She has said as much in the Sklaven interview when she was 12: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b2jLm4qdabmiiLM . The interview starts in Norwegian but switches to English in the middle. Make sure you watch the whole interview. She also sings a couple phrases from "Diamonds are Forever".

If I may jump in here, try this version of "Crazy" that hardly anyone knows about: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJyUpmNjhcZ9gqs - done in a church with a small jazz combo as part of her 2017 Christmas tour (age 11). (Note: The "standard" version is kzbin.info/www/bejne/oKa0anmAmM-Gjc0 .)

More like a natural woman? I suspect the eye closing is her concentrating on 'seeing' the song and the music. As far as I am concerned, she can shut them all the time if she keeps doing stuff like she has :-)

👩🏻🎤🎵🌎⭐️🇳🇴❤️ This was Angelina's tribute to Aretha, who had passed away just three days before this was posted. I think Angelina wanted to make sure that her rendition was appropriately respectful to the Queen of Soul. If you want a song that fully showcases Angelina's beautiful vocal abilities, I recommend that you react to her performance of Stay: kzbin.info/www/bejne/lXi2h4OseN5mj8k

Time for you to experience one of her originals. "What is Life" is the most jazz influenced (12 yo). The version with her sitting with piano player is the best. She was supposed to work on an album after AGT. A little pandemic thing created roadblock.

Listen to the song from a different perspective. Remove the romance. Msybe her messsge was that Aretha empowered Angelina as a natural woman in a formative time in her life, both as an artist and a young woman

Three things: 1. Seems like this mic (or something else) is volume leveling, processing her voice, or affecting the audio signal because I'm definitely hearing the magnitude of each note she sings being flattened, resulting in differences in the sound of her voice from note to note so much so that some notes are quite transformed. It may have to do with the audio being passed through the person reacting to it. In the past I've heard echoes and other unexplained anomalies coming through in the audio during vocal revieqs flattened somehow and the digitized signal is very poor quality compared to nearly all of the other 200 songs or so of hers I've listened to. Maybe differences in her voice from note to note. It could have to do with the audio being passed through the person recting to it. I have, in the past at times heard echoes and several other anomalies come through on the audio track during vocal coach reviews. I'll double check this by listening to video alone and post what I find. 2. As to why she closes her eyes, Angelina has spoken many times about her process when asked how she is able to channel such emotion while singing. Her response is always the same. She says that she goes to a wonderful/beautiful/very special (perhaps magical) place where the music flows through her (paraphrasing of course). It seems more like this place comes to her.

Hello, we all wait for her new album. When we wait what about reackt to Norways national treasure for more then 3 decades, SISSEL singing "Slow down" whit the "Tabernacle Choir". A song that got endless ovation schould be worth react to. I guess that you know Sissel but if you dont, she is one of the best ( if not the best ) female sopranos in the world and the hounting voice in the movie Titanic.

Thanks for another nice reaction. I will suggest two songs for you: Song for A (kzbin.info/www/bejne/eKCWnpuuhbJgq6M). This is classic music composed by Nico Cartosio and the lyrics is a poem by Robert Burns from 1783. The music was composed with Angelina in mind, and she is the original singer. The song is the last on Nico's debut album "Melting" and the only one with vocals. The other song I will recommend is a cover of Chris Isaac's "Wicked game" (kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3qkfnlqe6mZrZY) which she slowed down and simplified so much that you can't avoid listening to the text and feel the emotion. I and many of her fans love it and see it as one of her greatest masterpieces so far, but there are also people that dislike it.
