I was forced to not do my ideal format of not stopping the performance at all again so I could avoid getting blocked. Hopefully this is a better solution though. Interested to hear what you think . Thanks for the recommendations to do this video. Loved it!

This is a better format. Maybe do something like leave a long silence within your video so that the performance can be seen in another tab (run both videos at the same time) and when the performance ends, your video starts analyzing the performance.

I'm 2 years late, but just discovered your Dimash reaction videos. I can say only that Dimash's performances affect me in a way few others ever have. He touches my soul in an almost indescribable way, and many times has given me chills running up my spine and through the top of my head. It's 2021 now, and Dimash is 27 years old. He's had the opportunity to tour solo concerts internationally and create his own production company. As a person with a Master's Degree in Theatre, I notice everything in his performances--his vocals, his body language, his costumes, the lighting and set design--and appreciate his complete artistry. Whenever he has the opportunity to control these elements, I see him use every element in service to the song's meaning. So I find his body language, his eyes, and hand movements not only convincing, but an honest and meaningful addition to his vocals, completing his performances so that the totality affects his audience deeply, at a level rarely accomplished by performers.

Great reaction Dr. Marc - Dimash is a born story teller, and his medium is music. , he weaves a spell around his listeners that pulls us into his world from the first note to the last. And it's not just the music and lyrics; he does it with everything he’s got - from his facial expression, his eyes, his hands seemingly plucks the notes from the air, to his stance, I've always said Dimash doesn’t just sing a song. He becomes the song. And if God has a voice I'm sure it would sound like this !! Stunning, simply stunning. Thank you from New Zealand.

Despite being a vocal genius who has incredible ability to sing in many styles and utilize a variety of singing techniques, Dimash never stopped learning and perfecting on everything he does. Thank you for your reaction! In this performance, as always, Dimash completely immerses himself in the atmosphere of the story he tells us. Merging completely with the image and character, personified the role that he performs. I am completely under the spell of Dimash. Dimash is just another dimension! Well, all of us are already aware of the technical parameters of his vocal, the different techniques and the different styles he uses, there is almost no vocal expert who did not try to explain, to dissect the miracle we are witnessing. But I want someone to explain how this boy manages to get his voice straight into our souls, to mix our emotions into total mess, to make us feel as never intense exactly what he wants us to feel. Master of our souls ... Honestly, I do not think he thinks ... ....well ... that phrase I will sing with this timbre, and then here I will apply this technique .... and so on. I rather think that his greatest talent lies in his ability to surrender to the music, to surrender to the lyrics, to experience them himself hyper-intensively ..... and then the miracle happens - the music itself chooses what techniques are needed to express it, and they happen on their own, and Dimash is nothing less than the perfect and sincere conductor who, with all his love, indulge his talent, his mind, his heart and labor, to the Music. And to all of us. Warm greating from Bulgaria!

I'm a former soloist with the Miami City Ballet, and Dimash has such nice body languague. First, his movements are so natural and genuine. Second, as a dancer, I can really see and feel how naturally music flows through his body and how he bursts to express what he feels. It is nice to see a singer who engages his body. It is also clear that he is a very conscious performer, including his engagement of his motions and physicality. He could probably perform the same song with the same movements.

Dr. Raynolds, I am very grateful to you for your detailed and quality analysis! I'm an amateur singer, but with a gift to hear the most beautiful voices. When I first heard Dimash, I was absolutely sure that such a singer has not been born on the planet earth so far, since there are sound recordings. I was immensely happy, and at the same time very worried because great power carries great responsibility! It can burn like a match in five seconds of bright light, or to shine forever in the sky like a star! Unfortunately, I would like to mention the example of Amy Winehouse, a beautiful voice, but prematurely extinguished. I sincerely hope, having seen that he has a strong family: Father, Mother, Brother, Sister, Grandma, Grandpa, that he will overcome the problems and remain to shine forever in our sky! Sve najbolje mu želim majstor Raša.

A real professional analysis of Dimash' s vocal technique and showmanship. Good job, Marc. You are making some very good points. And you sound and present yourself very professionally, too. Unlike most we have watched so far. We watched a couple of dozens of youtube Dimash's singing analyzing so called "vocal coaches", but they were most rubbish self-promoting, to say the least. Thank you very much indeed for your time giving the youtube audience your thoughts on the matter. You have a very good low pitch microphone type voice , clear articulation and a clear mind, of course. People of the general public, not members of the musical profession, want to know more about the new phenomenon called Dimash. Until now there has been only one vocalist in the world and that is Yma Sumac, who could enhance 6 octaves. I don't know if she is alive or dead now, please let me know, she was from Latin America. And then there's Dimash - coming from "the middle of no where" - from the post Soviet Republic of Kazakhstan. What the Western Anglo-Saxon world has known until now about Kazakhstan was predominantly based on the British comedian Sascha Cohen's "Borat from Kazakhstan" movie staged about a decade ago. Dimash is definitely the greatest stereotypes breaker, boundary remover. Now, you made some psychological points. You are very observant. In the performance "Love is Like a Dream" (Любовь, похожая на сон) the composer himself is playing the piano. He is the author of the song, he made it up, he created it, he knows all about it. And he is a very good listener, being an introvert. So here we have a duo of two introverts with a very deep level of concentration on what they are doing. Now, to the acting part. You are saying you can believe him. So that's the point. You are probably familiar with the Stanislavsky Method of acting technique. Stanislavsky was making his actors be as natural on stage as to the point when he could say: "I believe you". Dimash comes from acting and performing background. He was born into the family of two professional stage performers. His mother is a professional classical vocalist and his father is a stage performer, too. They both were being professionally trained for many many years until they received a professional degree. In the former Soviet Union and its allies, including Kazakhstan, training in the musical academy always included "Сценическое мастерство по системе Станиславского" - a Stanislavsky Method of Acting Course, which lasted for at least a year and a half, when students had to pass both the theory and the practice test and had to study at least two main books of Stanislavsky: "Актерское мастерство в процессе переживания" and "Актерское мастерство в процессе воплощения". So it's in Dimash's blood. His parents passed the acting test based on the Stanilavsky method, and Dimash himself is studying it now. Without that it's impossible to get a vocalist degree in the music academy. That's obvious. Well, you need to have a talent, too:) And a genetic predisposition to be a good actor. What many of his hysterical fans don't understand is that it is very hard work, you know. You have to practice every day, seven days a week, you have to do a lot of routine work, which is not always fun, but you just have to. What all young people can learn from Dimash is that is he a very hard worker. All young people should work hard to pursue their goals in life, all people should try to develop their skills to perfection. That would be a positive, a productive reaction to Dimash's art. And not just stupid wowing and screaming: "wow, you are the best, I'm dying". After you stop wowing, young ladies and gentlemen, you should ask yourself: "this guy has achieved his goal, why can't I achieve my goals in life?" Now, Marc, sorry for being too long, we'll try and recommend your channel to the Russian public.

Thanks for your reaction as always a pleasure to listen to it. Regarding his hands, as a viewer what I see is that he also uses them to express the emotions of the song, and when they are more tense, for me is a way for him to keep the tension out of his torso, throat and his voice. Regarding Mr. Igor for me is that the more they interact and get used to each other, the respect and their connection is growing . And we can see it in this last perfomances. Dimash is getting more mature and showing it, this song is beautiful, the lyrics are amazing and that combined with Dimash singing it his way just took it to another level.💞

I found the last two parts of this performance fascinating watching Dimash's face, especially his eyes. When he starts with that ascent into the angelic realm (!) its as if he is giving himself up to that realm, to some glorious spiritual powers, and its really a letting go of his personal control.. when its over he looks bewidered and lost as if he didnt know where he'd been or how he got there, he allowed something to take him into the unknown. Then he comes back to himself, he makes a powerful facial gesture, then another with both his arms, to literally snap himself out of that spellbound state, and finishes with that statement of earthly Dimash prowess we all know about.

Dr Marc, I am learning each time and it is all thanks to you and Dimash. I feel Dimash is singing with his whole body and not only with his vocal cords, his eyes and hands play same and important ( vital) roles of his vocal cords, I can’t stop enjoying watching him while he is singing. I tried couple of times to watch his performances without voice on, and I found myself lost in great way , seems I was able to hear his voice. He is the first singer I can’t stop listening to and he is the first singer that doesn’t make me tired of his voice. For decades I was only listening to music without human voice! Main reason was “lying” and try to “convince” my intelligence, but I found him different so far. I love play and when he is singing I found myself in my best sit in a great theater watching one of the best play with great actor , director and the story to tell me.

Thank you, doctor, for your very, very informative comments, which ended up in an image of Dimash (Dïmaş) as a believable, truthful artist, going on to grow (as we all humans should grow). In an interview some time ago Dimash said: “To me spiritual virtues of a person are more important than his professional achievements. We came to this life to be human, not singers or teachers, but, first of all, to be human."

Dimash and his hands are an infamous combo. You can't have the one without the other. They are always in touch with the emotion of the song. In addition to that he often uses his hands to 'conduct' himself through particularly complex moments but even then it adds to the emotion. Let's also face it, he needs a good grip on the mic during some of his performances. I think Dimash is so well trained and that everything is so ingrained that everything is as natural and automatic as breathing, but he also said that you go on stage well prepared.

Thank you for your reaction and covering the different aspects of Dimash’s performance. I think we can all agree that if all he was capable of was vocal acrobatics, it would wear thin after a while. Instead we have a perfectionist that concerns himself with the arrangement, his stage clothes, stage design, choreography and rehearsals. Dimash completed a Broadway Musical master class in 2009. In 2014 he graduated in Classical Music from the music department of K. Zhubanov University in Aktobe and began his studies in contemporary music (Jazz, Pop) at Kazakh National University of Arts in Astana where he graduated on 27th June, 2018 with Major in Vocal. He is currently taking his Masters in Composing, with the University. His performances are very complex and you’re the only one that has picked up on it - because of what you yourself do. Most reactors try to show off their own vocal skills or count octaves. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and reaction. I found your comments very informative. You always are so engaged in listening and watching so your enjoyment is obvious. He is at the 70th Birthday for Alla Pugacheva. She sang this song herself. Dimash has great respect for elders and I am sure for Alla as an artist that he would have taken this seriously. At the same time even though a huge crowd he would want it to be intimate. Like he was singing right to Alla and honouring her song. Maestro Krutoy and Dimash are truly magical together. Krutoy has said he wants to compose an entire repertoire for Dimash’s voice. I am very much looking forward to hearing their collaborations. This is my favourite song currently every note has such emotion behind it. 😊 I like the format for when you are worried about copyright. It was not very distracting and let the focus remain on the performance.

Thank you, Dr Reynolds for getting to this performance so quickly. I think your new block-avoiding format works very well. I was able to stay engaged through the pauses without being too distracted from the performance as a whole. This is my favorite Dimash performance so far. As you said, it really demonstrates his refinement, progress and maturity as an artist. My ears can barely take in what they're hearing, and I find just listening to the audio without watching the video is a transcendent experience. I do enjoy going back and watching things related to hands, eyes, body movements with your analysis (which has been quite educational, thank you!). But, for me, this audio stands alone and the visuals, while not distracting, are almost superfluous. This is a stunning combination of a world-class composition with a world-class vocalist.

Your evaluation is exceptional and admirable. That you acknowledged your original judgment of Mr Krutoy’s subtle expressions while accompanying Dimash as an error, is a sign of a true leader of artistic and musical commentary. I appreciate that your review also included Dimash’s costume and his stance. All of the subtle indications of artistry were wonderful details to bring to your reaction.

Hi Dr Marc Again I enjoyed your reaction and your information. I liked the fan hat and your professional hat 🎩🎩For me a lot things are more clear every time👍thx you again and thx Dimash. This song is my favourite too and as you stated Dimash improves himself every time with some much variety. Yess he’s human and he can make mistake otherwise he can’t improve himself. As far I have seen his interviews he always stated that he will keep learning from other talented artists and that makes him humble the respect for others. And you’re right there are different things where an artist can touch you the voice, body language, eyes and talent but for me its the complete package. His hands don’t distract me on the contrary as a listener they guide me and let me feel the emotion and sincerety. He tells also the story with his hands and he expressed his emotions too. Now I think about it I also speak with my hands😅I understand why you have to stop during the video👍its no problem. Pls react to the meaning of eternity and swan goose. If you interested Igor Krutoy gave an interview about Dimash where he expressed his taughts about this talented young man. They are friends. Dimash dreamed to perform with him someday and he has a huge respect for Igor. He asked Dimash to sing as his 60th birthyday aniversary which will be held in October this year in America👏

When Leonardo Di Vinci worked on his teacher master verrocchio's painting the baptism of the christ. Leonardo was asked to paint the faces of the two Angel's. When he finished his part of the painting. Verrocchio looked at him and said he will never touch a brush again for he cannot paint better than Di Vinci or anyone else could. Now Igor has done the same thing verrocchio has done. He knew that Dimash is the Di Vinci and the Mozart of the 21st century. That's why he allowed the song to be changed like that. Thats the difference between true teacher who is an artist as well that appreciates talents when he see it despite his fame or his place in the industry. Di Vinci was 16 at that time and that painting is well known because it has Di Vinci's touch in it. That's why you see him having Dimash singing almost all his songs, and I am sure he will be writing new songs just for Dimash to sing. Your break down of the song and performance is well put. One last thing. If you pay attention to the operatic part, it was ave Maria. Listen to it again and you will realize how Dimash is making songs that are more like paintings than just a song. As an artists I usually get my inspiration when I paint from Mozart or Beethoven, and Jon oliva known as savatage. Dimash has added a new inspiration that I didnt know I had existed in me. We painters are in twin with true musicians that gives us the inspiration we need. Thank you for the time you spent on this video. Efforts were well placed.

ok, it’s time. i’m sat to watch and react-write to the rest of your dimash reactions. i’ve mentally prepared myself for them, esp this song, which has me weeping all the time… #fingerscrossed _____________________ your question about what makes sb believable bc they seem sincere and genuine is one i’ve been wanting to know bc i’ve never been able to go beyond ’s/he’s a great actor’ or ‘just sth about that performance’, ie their emotions come thru somehow. with dimash in particular, there are several factors. watching him perform his (sad) ballads feels as real as it gets, his facial expressions, especially his eyes, on top of his voice, give the impression that he’s genuinely feeling what you’re feeling (there are photos of him with goosebumps as he’s singing!) and those delicate whine/cry notes are the final nail always. i didn’t necessarily like all the songs he performed but the colour and emotions he puts in his voice have made me like them more over time. it’s the sincerity i hear in his voice more than anything else methinks. if he himself weren’t under the spell and feeling those emotions he’s trying to convey so deeply, i don’t think we’d feel as enchanted. sometimes he does go overboard and start crying too but i find that more often than not he manages to find that balance where he pours all the emotions but he doesn’t let them control him. there are also those performances when you see him spontaneously doing sth like jumping off stage to go get close to his dears, to the horror of the security personnel who have restrain him. you couldn’t fake those i don’t think… what gives it a way/the lie i’d guess is the eyes & partly the body language? _____________________ as i watch, i think it’s defo his voice, the colours, the intonation, the whispers / volume control, the cry notes, the vibratos, the runs, basically the everything. it’s like it’s a string to my heart and he’s manipulating me like a puppet master. and also, his facial expression but that comes 2nd bc i could just listen/not watch the performance and feel almost all of it.. _____________________ listening to you, i realise that i missed the most important one: the vulnerability, which was kind of implied i guess. i also really loved this performance. it might actually be my favourite one or at least in the top 5 (esp bc daybreak in bastau comes to mind a lot). on top of everything that makes this performance breathtaking, the timing with the notre-dame fire gave it a more emotional angle and i really enjoy playing the find the easter eggs type of games. as i commented elsewhere, i loved the reference to inessa galante's ave maria + unforgettable day + the last part of late autumn that give us a heightened experience not just bc he can make anything sound sublime but also bc of the way he's fused them so perfectly _____________________ and finally thank you a lot again for the theory/technique talk, which i’m so here for. i learn so much every time! i don’t find his hands distracting tho. more like little hints and indications of what’s coming or he’s feeling. i’m sure the camera directing us to them, like at the end of this particular performance plays a role but after awhile i start to look for them as well. in some songs more than in others, they’re like an extension of his singing and when you start to recognise them, it’s like those easter eggs thing again. but i also don’t see why it couldn’t be both, ie all that + tension/stress/anxiety. indeed, it has been most satisfying to see him strive to get better. every performance is better even if it’s the same song he’s done so many times before (!) and if you follow him closely, every day is about his efforts to elevate and refine his art further. it’s quite inspiring actually and addictive to see how that progress and his maturity are playing out. also, it’s so true what you say about him being so believable. we all feel like he’s singling us out and talking directly to us. that’s why it speaks to us so personally and so intimately.
