When Chris left he actually hand picked Chance (who was already a friend of the group) to take his place because whereas Chris was a low tenor Chance is a baritone and could do the bass whenTim sings lead much easier than he could. What is also so amazing about this song is that it was done during lock down so they were in 5 different locations in 3 different states. Loved your smile all the way through the song. I love Adam in this. He just looked the part of some locked up head case and Tim's smile when he hit that low note was just sinister. LOL

The guys did a great job of this Johnny Cash cover. Made it into a jazzy blues style. And they all look like some sort of criminals especially Tim & Adam. Remember this was done during quarantine so none of them were physically together. They were very creative during that time. Love the background train noises. Adam's beatboxing is crazy good & so is Tim's low notes.

If you haven't followed them for a while, you've missed a lot. Every time I think they can't create better music than their current video, they're like, "hold my beer", and they do just that. They set the bar ridiculously high and then go ahead and surpass it every time. They have put out some fabulous music just in the past couple of years. I absolutely adore these guys and can't get enough of them. Thanks for the great reaction.

p.s. The joy on your face matches what I feel every time I listen to them. Like you, I stated with Home Free on Sing-Off 4. If you have been away from them for a while, the fact that they have got better and better from an already high starting point I expect should be amazing if you had not been along for the ride that has happened song by song.... I almost envy you being able to observe that jump in one hit !! I introduced Home Free to a new small group I was asked to join just this week, and once again got such a buzz watching their reactions ( trained singers all) . Keen to see more of your work ! Cheers

Have you seen their cover of 'Mayday' by CAM yet? if not you should check that out. Tim Faust also did a solo project including an amazing version of 'Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow/Stay'. If you haven't seen Mayday I strongly suggest doing that one _before_ doing will you still love me. If none of that works, did you know that Don Mclean did a 50th anniversary re-release of 'American Pie?' He partnered with Home Free on it. He said that he did it with them because, "They *get* harmonies."

Chance is a Baritone with a 4 octave range. The are all fairly tall. In the 6'1" - 6"4" range. Those numbers are a joke though. The board they gave Chance shows 5'. When Tim instructs he emphasizes that bases need to work on their upper range. He believes the added vocal flexibility helps performance everywhere.

I liked what you said about keeping vibrato out of vocal harmonies. Have only recently tried my hand at harmonizing, I realized I was using straight tone without thinking about it. Then I reflected that heavy vibrato would sort of hold voices back from the most cohesive blend.

Love this reaction ! Chance is a baritone with a good bass range - and I think that gives them a lot of freedom, considering Tim's excellent higher ranges. Nothing against Chris Rupp, but Chance works really well with 'the boys'. Hope to see you do more Home Free ! I suggest as MUST see Home Free: 'When a Man Loves A Woman', 'Brothers in Arms', 'End of the Road', 'In The Blood' and (save this for later) 'Mayday'.

Home Free throws in a few inside jokes;the height chart is one. This is one they did during quarantine and put together after the fact because they were each in their own homes. When a Man Loves a Woman was also filmed apart and it’s genius how they put it together. Austin shines in it. Adam Chance is a brilliant addition to the group. He goes by Chance since there are two Adams.

Great reaction, thank you! I absolutely agree with your observation about vibrato and how it is often overused by other groups. As far as the older Home Free with Chris, they were great for sure, but the new lineup with Chance brought a breath of fresh air to their repertoire which is quite more diverse these days and it encompasses so much more than just country. Moreover, Chance brings a new balance to the group with his ability to sing bass, not just baritone, and allows Tim to use his higher range more often. I hope you explore their albums "Timeless, Dive Bar Saints, and Songs of lockdown"... you will discover new facets to the Home Free you probably remember.

Love that you were a fan before they made it big! There's a few of us out here. 😉 It's tough in a popular group to have a member change. Pentatonix did it successfully and, as you pointed out, so did Home Free. But HF did something different than PTX: they looked at where they were and where they were going or wanted to go. So when Chris Rupp, the baritone, left Home Free wisely looked for a singer that could sing baritone but could also cover bass when Tim sings lead. Chance was the bass in his former group and he covers the low end extremely well. I miss Chris, but HF did what a great group must do: "how do we get better in this change?" IMO, changes are tough but if you must make them, do it well and Home Free nailed it! Suggestions: "My Church" and (since you already know the group and their usual ranges) "Mayday"

Adam Chance, or "Chance" as they call him (because there are 2 Adams in the group), started singing with them in 2016 after Chris Rupp left to do his solo career. Adam Chance has been a fantastic addition to the group, and he has some awesome lead and solo parts. In real life they are all very similar in height. The one that said 6'4 was Austin, who is actually the shortest at 6'1 and a half (as he says) Rob is the tallest at 6'4 (also the only one that does not wear cowboy boots, so he never actually looks taller than the others) the other three, are between there. I think Adam Rupp is 6'2 with Chance and Tim at 6'3.... Chris Rupp in an interview once said that he wished that tour buses had larger births as they are all big boys and he wasn't kidding.
