*warning* You are going to have a lot of requests for Home Free's cover of 'Mayday' by CAM. While that is an _amazing_ cover, Home Free does something different as a surprise in that one that you won't really appreciate unless you've seen enough of their stuff to know them a bit. I recomend waiting until you've seen maybe 2 or 3 more other songs from them before doing 'Mayday'.

Welcome to the world of us HOME FRIES. (What us Home Free fans are called). Check out the bass, Tim Foust, in his videos with Peter Hollens (who’s a SOLO acapella artist-he records multiple tracks, and layers them!) “Misty Mountains”; “”Sound of Silence”; “Bridge over troubled water”; and “Greensleeves”...and FYI about Home Free. They won the “Sing-Off” on NBC in 2013, the year after Pentatonix. The group was started in 2000 by brothers Adam and Chris Rupp, while they were in college. Numerous members have come and gone since then. Chris Rupp left the group in 2016 to go solo, so Adam Rupp is the only OG left. He’s the beatboxer-percussionist extraordinaire. He’s widely regarded as one of the best in the world right now. The talent of these guys is amazing. Tim Foust (bass) is a BASSO PROFUNDO, with a 5+ octave range. Adam Chance (aka “Chance”, since there’s another Adam {Rupp}); replaced Chris Rupp and does baritone/bass (he does bass when Tim sings in the tenor range)-his range is 4+ octaves-and he’s a gifted director-having directed (and sings lead for) the video for “I can’t outrun you”. They have a higher tenor (Austin Brown) and a standard tenor (Rob Lundquist). The sheer magnitude of their prowess is outstanding. They are clearly in the caliber of Pentatonix-but Home Free does mostly country covers. Tight, amazing harmonies, great videos, what’s not to love? AND Home Free’s albums are regularly on the country music charts!

The videos I'm going to suggest are: the video a friend used as bait to get me to listen to them the 1st time, "Elvira" featuring the Oak Ridge Boys, and the song that officially made me a Home Fry, "How Great Thou Art" which features a singing solo from the beatboxer, Adam Rupp. But any song you pick will be a great one.

As far as their "percussionist", there are some videos of him doing a "drum solo" that are amazing. You should check out their performances from "The Sing-Off". Like Pentatonix, they won that competition, and took off from there. During that season, they did an "Ultimate Sing-Off" with one of their competitors, doing "I'm All Right", and both groups obviously had a lot of fun with it. The bass singers from both Home Free and Pentatonix are known for having blown out speakers with their low notes. And, they both have surprising ranges.

By now I'm sure you've begun to meet the 'Home Fries' (Home Free fans). That's how I saw your video, I love initial reactions to the beautiful harmonies. I've watched so many of their performances, I'm really starting to get an appreciation for the arrangements, which give the harmonies a place to shine. You can't really go wrong with anything Home Free, not a bad track among them. Over Christmas, I had a playlist of all their Christmas songs, and possibly because they are well known songs in their own right, new HF listeners have a deeper appreciation of the 'added touch' they bring to the songs. Have an out-of-season listen to the Christmas tunes. Add to that Christmas list their collaboration with Kenny Rogers (RIP), 'Children, Go Where I Send Thee' Enjoy the ride! And see them in person when next the opportunity arises, their live shows are a few hours of a permanent smile stuck on your face, while Tim's bass ripples through your body.

If you are looking for a sampling that will run the gamut of Home Free style and range, I would suggest the following: Country Fried Pop Medley (for a walk on the pop/R&B side, and sheer good fun and hilarity; this song was the intro to Home Free for lots of fans & reactionists not native to Country Music); Auld Lang Syne (for unrivaled quality, rich tone and Profound Sound); Mayday (for performance virtuosity and the ultimate in vocal switcheroos); and, if you want a truly heart-melting experience, Cover Me Up and Go Rest High on that Mountain. And Helplessly Hoping is utterly unique: a remarkable treatment of a lost genre and an experience of complex chords and basso profundo that will move you physically as well as in soul.

Lauren. This is the first video that I have seen of yours. I am familiar with the group Home Free and have to admit I am a fan. If I could make 1 suggestion (and you may have already made this correction or this video was an anomaly) The volume of your microphone was so much lower than the volume of the music being played. I had to keep adjusting my volume so that I could hear you speak and then would get blasted out of my seat when you would start the music back up. Please try to even that out a bit. Home Free is a very good Capella group. They have 2 outstanding tenors who very often switch back and forth singing lead, an excellent baritone, who can also get down into the bass range, and the bass singer, Tim Faust, isn't human. He has a 5 octave range and can sing anywhere from tenor to super bass. Their beat box guy is excellent too. A couple of other songs that you might try listening to of theirs are their cover of Man of Constant Sorrow and their version of How Great Thou Art. Enjoy your trip down the Home Free Rabbit hole.
