Hi Natalia, Amazing diagnostics of Regine's vocals. She has mastered the technique of BELTING and she has influenced majority of the female singers of this generation. Araw Gabi is a cover of Regine Velasquez. The composer is Ryan Cayabyab and he wrote this for his wife. The original singer is Nonoy Zuniga. The song was not a hit when he released it back in 1985. Regine made this song very popular. I remember when I listened to this the first time on CD I felt so light and airy its like Im floating. Regine has great enunciation and pronunciation style. Her tone is very crispy and clear. Thats what I like about her vocals, the clarity of her tone. I am glad that you reacted to this. I would like to recommend another tagalog song. This is also a cover and this song is composed by her husband Ogie Alcasid and originally sang by Piolo Pascual. Not only has Regine mastered the art and science of belting but more importantly she has mastered the holy grail of singing - singing effortlessly without any trace of break between her chest and her head voice. Basically listening to her sing, you can’t tell when her chest ends and when her head voice begins. That is so hard to do because it requires discipline and control. That she did all this while sitting down shows her mastery. In fact, sorry to use Lea as a comparison, but she does not have this capability, as evidenced by her 10th Anniversary On My Own performance, where you can clearly hear the change in volume and tone when she hit the highest part of the song. It’s really hard to master this skill and that’s why most women opt to go the opposite approach, which is to highlight this break under the guise of artistic choice, but to the detriment of their voice. Only Regine, as Mr C stated, has this ability to have a range without any breaks.

I find it weird why people make foreigners react to singers singing in foreign language on a First Time reaction. Imho, reactors can appreciate our artists more when they get what they're singing? Anyway, this is like only 10-20% of what Regine is capable of. She has had performances much much much better than this :)

I agree. Since the words and what they mean play a critical role in how a certain phrase should be sung or should sound, then it becomes difficult for the vocal coach to qualify or understand why the singer took a different approach to hit a note than how the vocal coach preferred to do it. Also, when demonstrating the preferred sound, it would be helpful to perform it in the same pitch, instead of a lower pitch because 1) of course it sounds easier when done in a lower pitch and 2) doing it in the higher pitch will allow both her and the viewers to evaluate whether the suggested method actually yields a better sound than that produced by the artist.
