Firstly I am a non Filipino from Australia so hopefully my comment will not tread on anybody’s toes. I have recently discovered Morissette browsing through YT and have become a huge fan of her vocal agility and artistry. Of course as one continues the search for more songs and performances of Morissette … one cannot help but to stumble onto more amazing singers from the Philippines. One amazing singer is Regine! I now understand why so many have written in the comments that she is the Queen. I know she is now 52 and probably in her twilight years of her career. But having said that let me say this … after being in the industry for over 35 years her vocals is still freaking awesome. I have watched some of her earlier performances when she was in her younger years especially in the late 80s and 90s and IMO her vocals was right up there with the greats …Whitney Mariah and Celine. I was not surprised how many US singers had Regine performing with them on stage whilst touring in the Philippines. I can understand why so many of the current singers in her country love her and look up to her with so much respect. Trying to emulate and follow someone’s footsteps is the ultimate sign of flattery!

If another Filipino singer were to sing next to her you can see how nervous they are next to her, that’s how much of an influence she is in the earlier stages of Filipino vocal history. But because she has such a motherly energy she really like to comfort and amp them up on stage. Can’t wait for you to see more of her!

I really appreciate your sincere reaction to Regine and how you articulated her skills Am providing the lyrics of the song and i put the english translation ( my edition). Hope you will have a better understanding why she sang the way she sang it. She is a story teller Araw Gabi by Regine Velasquez with English translation It's no joke to write a song for you Di biro ang sumulat ng awitin para sayo I'm like crazy, dizzy and confused Para akong isang sirang ulong hilo't lito I inherited a piano Sa akin pang minanang piyano Keys were forced to play Tikladoy pilit nilaro There maybe a tune Baka sakaling merong tono And suddenly a song came to be Bigla na lang umusbong What can possibly be a song for you? Tungkol saan naman kayang awiting para sayo It's not a joke to scale the notes of a tune Di biro ang gawing sukat ang titik sa tono Even i got 10 dictionaries Sampu man aking diksyonaryo Even if it matches still can't fit Kung man tugma'y di wasto Just think that my feelings for you won't change Bastat isipin di magbabago damdamin ko sayo Day night Araw-gabi You are in my mind Nasa isip ka I dream of you Napapanagip ka No matter where I go Kahit san man magpunta Day night Araw-gabi Intoxicated with joy Nalalasing sa tuwa When you're with me Kapag kapiling ka Day night the two of us Araw-gabi tayong dalawa Jokingly i've said Biruin mong nasabi ko What I wish to convey Ang nais kong ipahatid You just have to know Dapat mo lamang mabatid What fills my chest Laman nitong dibdib Seems i've finished created ten hundred songs Tila sampung daang awitin ang natapos kong likhain This is the true feelings to accept and hear Ito ang tunay na damdamin tanggapin at dinggin Day night Araw-gabi You are in mind Nasa isip ka I've dreamed of you Napapanagip ka No matter where i go Kahit san man magpunta Day night Araw-gabi I get intoxicated with joy Nalalasing sa tuwa When you're with me Kapag kapiling ka Day night the two of us Araw-gabi tayong dalawa Day night the two of us Araw-gabi tayong dalawa Day night Araw-gabi You are in mind Nasa isip ka i've dreamed of you Napapanagip ka No matter where I go Kahit san man magpunta Day night Araw-gabi Intoxicated with joy Nalalasing sa tuwa When you're with me Kapag kapiling ka Day night the two of us Araw-gabi tayong dalawa

The song took me back to my childhood. You know, when you watch an emotional long movie ; when the movie is over, the lights turn on and they play music that both relaxes you and accompanies your emotions. It almost as if your own emotional movie continues slowly inside you.... that's what it is....

Mama Reg is the mother of singers. She's the devine of all the divas. She don't need to prove what she can. Shes a freak of a nature as per her co-singer. Shes the representation of being the best. She is the standard of the "biritera" in PHL, the ceiling of all biritera. She is sooo effortless.

She is Asia’s songbird. At least that’s been her title for as long as I remember. The song title in English is Night and Day and the composer is her husband Ogie Alcasid who is also an excellent singer.😁
@anamericanbulldogpupnamedt56422 жыл бұрын
Fun fact: Regine’s father and mentor used to dunk her in a cold barrel of water while hitting high notes from an early age. This actually came from her own words, another is she also mentioned drinking salabat (ginger root tea which is believed in the Philippine islands as magic tea that protects the vocal chords)

And so Queens subjects gathered! That parking area became packed. Fast! So before I knew much of Regine Velasquez. I watched, what was Katrina Velarde's first big concert. Katrina had just did her exceptionally good impersonation performance of "Never Enough", and was sitting on the stage getting ready as the intro to Araw Gabi started playing. As she started to sing, Kat's mic was cut, and instead somebody else's voice took over. Her mind had to have been racing at this moment. The person singing her lines, eventually appeared from back stage, and vwala, it was her biggest music inspiration growing up, the Queen Regine. It eventually turned into a duet, but for the first half of that song, I've never heard Katrina's voice that weak. Actually trembling. The adoration coming from Katrina to this icon of Philippino showbiz was palpable. Will never forget that scene. Think I'm gonna look for it again

First, this is The Regine Velasquez, Philippine’s premier Diva, not at her prime anymore. The irregularity that you saw when she opened her mouth was due to a Valda pastille stuck under her gum to help her sing with ease and openly. She has a lozenge while singing. After giving birth, she admitted that she had a hard time regaining her voice and it’s apparent she’s already struggling when she’s singing. You need to watch her performances before she had a child. The girl was a beast! Secondly, that raspiness that you heard wasn’t intentional. That was the damage she incurred due to decades of singing. I mean, not just singing. I mean, SINGING! Kudos to how you genuinely react and educate us in this reaction video. Such a pleasure watching you. Please react to Regine Velasquez’s rendition of the song “Sometime, Somewhere” where she was wearing a yellow dress. You’ll see how she tells a story through a song. She is such a great story teller. You’ll know why she’s Asia’s Songbird. Thank you for this video. Hope to watch more of your reactions! 😊😊😊

I so appreciate the bitsy pieces you have been pointing out in all your reactions. I like that. Im not sure how old is when she did this bus thing but more like very late 40's or early 50's not sure.. but in her ealier days as in 30 somthing years ago.. she never used raspy only now that she aged. speacially now thay she is in her mid 50's that raspy sound is clear and she is embracing it. but to hear what gave her the title "Song Bird of Asia" is to listen her 30 something year old videos hehe.. She came before Mariah and after she won 1st price in a local prestigious competiion it never been the same again in all singing competion in the Philippines because of Regine. Thats why many would be singers especially girls idolizes and try to sing like her till mariah came with a whistle.

I want to say thank you for taking the time in reacting to Regine Velasquez. She is a music icon, a living legend in the Philippines. She is called the "Asia's Songbird" and has been in our Philippine music industry for more than 35 years. Regine is a full lyric soprano with a 4 octave vocal range. During her prime years (90's - 2010) she has a light lyric soprano voice, known for the sweet, feminine, high, bright and agile voice and is able to go up and down the scales and sustain those notes for many seconds. Her tessitura sits comfortably in F5, F#5, G5, G#5. Alot of the vocal reactions made for her are older videos during her prime. And to name a few, here are the list and the link 1.
