I saw her at the Blue Note at the end of a tour: her voice was gone, she talked through her songs, and was still magical. The house was full of Japanese and Scandinavian tourists speaking during the breaks between tunes while she chatted with friends in the crowd, but I couldn't bear missing a thing she said

I saw her live in Austin Texas in a beautiful setting. She was Divine. Her rendition of "Send In the Clowns" man, it moved the rafters. I felt her low notes vibrate my ribs and fill my heart. I treasure that memory. I was lucky enough to see Ella and Carmen McRae live as well...hence my extensive collection of jazz singer CDs. I loved your reaction! 😂 Because this was exactly how I felt when I saw this video for the first time. I also had listened to her for years - being a musician and singer myself - poured over and analyzed every note she sang. But I had never seen her perform. This video made my heart melt into a puddle. I still have an almost ASMR reaction to it. Your facial expression captures it all perfectly! You just feel like you’re seeing a beautiful genius of a soul and her great love and knowledge of music. She sang with so much joy. "The black Callas", "The Divine One". There have been many attempts to express the genius quality of this voice in words. Ella called her the most "talented" voice, not without ulterior motive. For me, she is the most outstanding female singing voice since sound recording has been invented.

I had the absolute privilege to see her when I was in college in Pittsburgh. She had the count Basie big band. He barely made to the stage, however once he sat down it was AWESOME! Sarah was incredible. I also saw her in Philly many years later with either a quintet or quartet...results were the same. Love her

My favourite song and a legendary singer. But you didn't give enough credit to the trio. Master musicians. AND the pianist's use of tremelos and crescendi to articulate the words/verses. So tasteful they were following her like hawks. Unbelievable. And thanks for the video I liked it a lot.

When she was first working with bands, traveling, and performing, the guys called her Sailor for her cursing and rough language while playing cards, partying and hanging out. They loved her perfect pitch, and how she sang like an insturmentalist might interpret a melody or lyric. She's unique. Thanks for reacting to her. Listening to Sarah Vaughan sing live is The Sh*t ! When she sings live, there's so much going on that you have to go back repeatedly and hear what she's doing with her voice. The full tone and richness and that VIBRATO ! Also, the layer upon layer of different sounds all happening at once. As a voice teacher, I don't know if you can even teach this type of singing ?! It's called a Phenomenon !

Luckily, I don't think we'll ever have to face a situation in which we were asked to choose only one interpreter to listen to for the rest of our lives, but if such a case arose, I would instantly stick to Sarah Vaughn. She literally blows me away whenever I listen to her. It's not just her technical mastery and her mind-blowing artistry, it's the truth and originality in all of her performances. I have also enjoyed watching Andy Davis: his comments, his facial expression, and his honest reaction to a true angel of music make me feel he's a warm-hearted, knowledgeable gentleman. Thank you.
