Tibet and the Himalayas: revisiting cross border trade through Uttarkashi
Nelong and Jadung villages on the Uttarakhand border with Tibet used to be trading villages between Tibet and India before the Indo-China war in 1962 ended all commerce and contact. Now, the residents of the two villages have relocated to Dunda, far away from their ancestral homeland after the war. Many of the elders, whose contact with Tibetans through trade still carries residue of cultural proximity and shared kinship, remain affected by this shift.

My pala aged 95 living in India, narrated that this region ( Tsongsa Rongpa) comes under Tibet at those days and has to pay Tax to then government of Tibet, that was Depa shung( སྡེ་པ་གཞུང་།) and that the Tax was one Rupee.

Before the invasion, people at the tibet borders with mongolia, east turkisstan, russia, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Nepal, Bhutan, India, China traded with Tibet. There folk tales and songs are about holy land of Tibet. CHINESE buddhist who make pilgrimage to Potala and returned back are respected like Haaji in islam
