I always appreciate your reactions to Voiceplay. It's fun to hear you say how simple the arrangement is, knowing that the complexity is coming. What is doesn't have is any beatboxing, I think that is what is making it different to you. Because Layne isn't doing that wild thang percussion, you feel it's missing. You are entitled to your opinion, that's why this is your channel. You're wrong ;) but, that's okay. The "this makes it a Voiceplay piece" is the delicious harmonies. I will suggest that you react to their Wicked Medley or Little Mermaid Medley. Both are outstanding. You've only reacted to one of Geoff's pieces, I'd love to see you do more of his work, too.

This one was Cesar's suggestion and Geoff arranged it. Stripped right back, as you say, to bring out the emotions. I don't manage to get through it in one piece and a number of reactors also end up in pieces. I believe that no one can arrnage like VP, and this one by Geoff is no exception. Their arrangements are second to none. Also on the acting side, is their another group that can portray the emotions this well? Not to me.

I could certainly understand why. It's a very moving piece.

I completely disagree. Geoff arranged this in 5-part harmony, with leads switching off between the parts. Not any group could do that. I love this arrangement so much. It's a masterpiece. And the performance is perfection.

You pronounced Raitt correctly. She is the daughter of John Raitt, who was a huge broadway star in the 40's/50's. VP rarely does tear-jerkers or ballads, but when they do one, they'll rip out your heart. I wonder why you think a cappella should or shouldn't be simple? It's really no different than the change in pop music from mindless repetitive beats to a somewhat more complex form rhythmically and melodically over time. I adore VP's complexity, but even more, I love their artistry and their willingness to break rules in order to let a particular song shine. I agree with your comments on the individual performances. Thanks for your reaction. Your opinion is your opinion and I appreciate your willingness to be honest. For myself, there isn't another a cappella group out there with the chops and artistry to arrange this, and that's critical to the performance. A lot of subtle choices.

Cesar lobbied for this to be VoicePlay's next song. This is magnificent - from the arrangement, voices, emotions, angst, chords, dissonance, final unresolved chord. I love the house as a character, each person alone in a room, no eye contact, just the impending loneliness. It is heartrendingly gorgeous. I think it is a masterpiece for VoicePlay, either acapella or music on its own. The sheer simplicity requires nothing more but that you take it into your own heart.

Of course you need to have your own opinion but I believe (and the more musical pro reactors I’ve seen, agree) this is one of the most musically complex arrangements Voiceplay has ever produced. The 5 part harmonies, the dissonant chords and the complex jazz influenced baseline are just outstanding. Try listening again to what all is happening besides the beautiful solos and you might be more impressed.

I'll be the first to admit I'm no professional. I'm not the best reactor if you're wanting more intricate details and musical breakdowns. I'm just a humble man out here giving his opinions 😉 but on that note, perhaps a second listen would do me some good. There's always more to notice and learn, especially with Voiceplay!

@@1MannzOpinion I think you’re great, I just thought you might gain something by listening again. Even those of us with lots of musical knowledge have a hard time catching everything that’s going on in a Voiceplay piece on the first hearing. That’s part of what makes them so outstanding.

Thanks for your reaction! I enjoyed and agreed with your reaction enough to not be upset at all with your opinion. Although the harmonies and arrangement are stunning this is very different for Voice Play and a very emotional song. Many people I know don't like the original either because they feel it is too melancholy or depressing (this is a definite upgrade from the original but a bit more gut wrenching than we are use to from Voice Play). As a fellow Voice Player, you recognize and really appreciate all that Voice Play puts into their production and that they do it all themselves. You know that they frequently surprise us and really make it their own so it is ok that you did not feel that with this song. Halloween is coming up fast and Geoff and Voice Play do it better than anyone else. I am really looking ahead to new releases from them this year and revisiting their previous Halloween classics. I still appreciate your realness and continue to look foward to your Voice Play reactions.

I’ll probably get some blowback also, but as a VoicePlay fan I agree with you - this one will never be one of my favorites. It was beautiful, but not the song I would keep going back to. Their next one, however, I’ve already listened to 10+ times and it just came to Patreon this morning. It won’t be out for a few weeks, but I can’t wait for the reactions. VoicePlay is truly the only group I could see doing it.

I would be interested to know once you’ve listened to a lot more of their stuff what you consider typical voiceplay they are very diverse and of course they have had a change of core members and loads of collaborators. I think I’ve listened to everything they’ve done and although you can categorise some of them I don’t know what I would consider typical. Interesting and honest reaction which I appreciate.BTW Eli pronounces his name like Elly rhyming with Jelly ❤️🏴

I agree. Voiceplay is not a typical group doing typical songs. They're very diverse in what they sing. They do any genre. And they go all out in portraying the song. I've watched this with many many reactors and you're the only one that said anything bad. All have gotten very emotional. Most even cried. Men and women. All the Voiceplay guys had tears in their eyes during filming. Geoff even cried at one point. This is a song Cesar wanted to do. I respect your opinion though.

Also. There are Alot of songs that have been done by multiple acapella groups of singers. Each have their own style of way of doing them. I for one only listen to Voiceplay and Geoff Castellucci. Because of their diversity and style. And being a patreon of them both I've come to find out they're a great group of guys as well. Also. What other group do you know can sing with anyone? Not just those in their group? None!!!

There’s no beatboxing in this one, which may be the reason why you feel it’s more acappella? I believe it was in “Good for you” or “Running up that hill” you said that too, even though they have vocal percussion. I think the chord structures are rather complex in this one, but perhaps it feels stripped down because it’s so slow? This song is not especially my cup of tea either, I can’t really pinpoint why. Perhaps because it is a bit too sad for me. It is beautiful though! By the way, Kassandra Brook usually says that VoicePlay has a special sound: “There’s that VoicePlay swag!” 😁. Perhaps that’s what you think is missing in this one? But they do have some more songs like this, for example “True Colours” (which moves me personally much more than this one does, but I just love the lyrics in that one as well) and “Heart of Life” that they released when Earl had just left. Their version of “Little Town of Bethlehem” is very stripped down, but so, so beautiful in my opinion, their version of it is one of my favourite Christmas songs!

Not going to attack you for your opinion. People see and hear different things... I don't necessarily agree with you but can respect your thoughts... Personally I can listen to it and think this is beautiful.... But when I watch the video, my heart breaks for Cesar. Im feeling his emotion and seeing it... That for me makes it special........ I listened to Ptx sound of silence cover.... Musically it sounded lovely... Watching the video added nothing to my thoughts.. (just one old ladie's opinion) 😉 xx 🏴

I do think the song is quite beautiful, I'm just not sure it was my personal favorite. We all have certain songs that touch us in different ways, and I think that's one of the most beautiful things about it. I really appreciate your comment and love to hear your opinion. 🙂
@jessicacole79812 жыл бұрын
Your last comment makes no sense to me. Geoff's bass line and arrangement, Eli's runs, Layne's beautiful soft baritone, Cesar's emotion, all of their acting..all of that is something only Voice Play can do. The background harmonies are so complex with dissident cords and runs through out. The switching of lead between the guys was so beautiful and seamless. It is so far from simple that it can't even see simple in the rearview mirror. I think the lack of beatboxing and the slower tempo have caused you to consider it simple and you didn't really listen to what was going on in the background as you seemed to be focused on the leads. You are obviously entitled to your opinion but like another comment said You're wrong 🤣.
