Okay, you are in for a ride, if you're digging into VoicePlay. Saddle up. Originality, creativity and entertainment are what VoicePlay are all about, and they never fail to deliver on that count. Not only do Layne and Geoff create most of the arrangements they use, they also conceptualize and create their own videos, doing their own videography, lighting, etc (although- having lots of connections due to many of them having backgrounds as Disney performers- they do bring in others for makeup and occasionally costuming). Someone far more clever than I once said that if the big 3 a cappella groups were highschoolers, Pentatonix would be the student council kids, HomeFree would be hanging out in the parking lot, and VoicePlay would be the theater kids. That's pretty accurate. And FWIW, they are pretty much all vocal monsters (although I can't speak as much for Cesar- the guy with the brown cardigan- since he's new, but what I've heard from him is fantastic). Eli, the tenor, can cover Geoff's bass lines in live performances while Geoff solos. Layne's also got an impressive range, very similar to Geoff's actually, although he only sings occasionally. Geoff himself has a nearly 5 octave range, with ridiculous control and clarity throughout. In one song, 'Oogie Boogie's Song,' from The Nightmare Before Christmas, Geoff goes from a B4 to an E1 subharmonic in seconds, and his descent in The Little Mermaid Medley is probably at least that broad. Until 2020, they also had Earl Elkins Jr., a high tenor with a laser-like voice you have to hear to believe (Queen in 5 Minutes highlights him pretty well- also one hell of a good video). J. None left the band in May to join the Navy, but hopefully he and his buttery smooth baritone will be back after his service. You're going to get a ton of suggestions for this group, and none of them will be wrong. My personal favorites include: Billie Eilish in 3 Minutes (it's more of a mashup than a medley; one of my favorite arrangements), Carry On Wayward Son, Eleanor Rigby, True Colors, Bang! and You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch. But seriously, throw a dart and pick a video from their page. There's something to impress you in pretty much every performance.

One thing, that's not J.None, he has left the group for the navy :) That's Cesar de la Rosa, who has just joined Voiceplay as J's replacement :) Before he became an official member, he was featured in "We're good", along with Adriana Arellano, who has done several collaborations with them (the Frozen 2 Medley, for example, or their version of "You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch"). Cesar is a friend of Ashley's, who is a member of the group Resolve. Though I'd love for her to join Voiceplay, too. Deejay Young also works really well with them (as seen in their cover of "Bang", or their cover of "Man in the Mirror [which is J.None's farewell song]), too bad he's got a commitment already. If you want Disney, check out their beautiful version of "Go the distance" featuring EJ Cardona. One very beautiful song is their version of "Just sing". Don't wanna spoil too much there, but keep the captions on on that one. Man, there are just way too many Voiceplay songs to recommend. Just check them all out, all of them are amazing.

Your expressions were priceless. Layne, the beatboxer and the guy who sang second at the start, does the arrangements often with Geoff. The two just keep getting better and better. Ashley is a friend of Cesar's and does jazz in a group. Tim, Avi, and Geoff are among the best in the biz right now for bass singers. Eli (L-E) is their second tenor and all around utility singer from high tenor to bass, but I liked Ashley with them. They have a slightly off-beat, like dressing up and doing roles, and just a bit crazy. Love them.

I'm a huge fan, and one of the things I really love is their ability to be respectful of the original, while adding a stylish, energetic & dazzling new arrangement. They aren't always improv/theater oriented, but even when they aren't it's typically engaging and appropriate setting/performance. Check out Warriors from Imagine Dragons - they step way outside the box on that one, and it's another one of Layne's arrangements. (Layne and Geoff do a close to 50-50 split on arrangements, and whoever arranges usually does the video too) If you want pure theater, check out Oogie Boogie Song from Nightmare before Christmas. It's a total romp. Try the Moana Medley and the Little Mermaid medley if you like Disney, they're both fabulous. Oh, and you're right about everyone backing each other up. They do. Everyone has a wide range and an ability to lead, to support, and even to help with vocal percussion. No one as good as Layne, but hey... they do it well. (And Layne has a gorgeous voice). They are musicians first, but they are entertainers as a strong second. Need some electronic sounds? They sing those, too.

My dudes, basically pick anything that sounds interesting by title and it'll be amazing. Then go through the rest and it's amazing. If you want more, Geoff has some solo 4 or 5 track song that are, surprize, amazing. He sings all the parts. Also production is always on point for makeup. Sometimes they add effects, but they don't shift pitch in post. If you want an example of how tight the group is look at the older stuff that's single take with 2 mics. Disney villains, sidekicks, and heroes (3 different videos)

However, you can't go wrong with any cover of them, Carry On Wayward Son, Bang!, Billie Eilish in 5 minutes, We're Good, Butter, Daddy Sang Bass, Warriors and My Mother Told Me are amazing too.

That's Geoff Castelluci the 3rd big acappella bass along with Tim Foust and Avi Kaplan. 🙂 They all have very large vocal ranges. You can't really hear Avi's full range unless you get into his solo career after Pentatonix. The other 2 get to use their full range in their acappella gigs. They are also all friends. Tim has guested with Voiceplay in "Just Sing". Geoff has some nice solo work as well on his own channel. I recommend "Misty Mountains". Tim has a version of that of his own with Peter Hollens which is also quite good. Avi used the song as a comedic filler in Pentatonix live shows for years during setups. If you want to hear a couple of the younger basses Peter Barber and Bobbie Waters covered Avi Kaplan's "The Summit" recently which is fun because he wrote it to use both of his registers and they do too. kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4rNdHuejduNorc Avi primarily does only original compositions which is overdue for bass singers not having seen that much written for them since the Johnny Cash era. If you want theatrical from Avi do his "Change On the Rise". If you like horses try "Aberdeen". He has done an eclectic variety of original compositions to date. Tim has just started looking at doing his own content but he has several with Peter Hollens. Geoff has quite a bit from the last couple of years. Paul McCartney's Blackbird is nice. He also recently did John Denver's "Take Me Home Country Roads".

I concur.. DEFINITELY Bobby "Bass "Waters & Peter Barber should also be listened to. Another super low bass is Tim Snow (gospel singer). TS can hit the same notes that JD Sumner was able to (after Sumner had throat repair surgery & his vocal cords were elongated unintentionally) without really trying. I believe he's the lowest recorded bass ever (Tim Snow broke JD's world record I think)

In addition Geoff did the arrangement for the Home Free-Oak- Ridge Boys version of Elvira. Watching the Voice Play live version of Elvira is a hoot. What took a deft touch with the arrangement was translating the live version with 5 voices + audience interactions to the multiple person studio version. He managed it,keeping the same fun energy of the live performance. Wonderful.

Really gotta react to My mother told me, it's pretty recent, they had their previous baritone, it's one of his last videos. The baritone was substituted already (I think you just watched his first video as officially in the group), and I think they are still figuring out if their first tenor will be a woman. It's what you need to watch to see Geoff's power, also how good they are at arranging.

I think they pride themselves on being different. They are self-produced, so aren't limited to commercial properties. They are the theater kids of the genre. As far as trading off, they do that in their live performances as well. I particularly like their Road Trip from the sing off. If you like their trading off, check out Tennessee Whiskey , Butter(featuring DeeJay Young) and We're Good ( with Adriana Arellano ). One of the things that always amazes me is how they can bring in someone else and it still sounds seamless. I know that they had another arranger do We're Good, but usually they do their own arrangements. (And usually that person does the video elements as well.)

Ashley Diane has done a couple of others with VoicePlay: music from Stranger Things - Running Up That Hill (Bonnie Raitt) and We Don't Talk About Bruno. Both are excellent. She is in her own jazz group. Would be happy to have her as a full time VoicePlay member. Wicked is wonderful to watch. In the Hall of the Mountain King (Grieg 1875) acapella of a symphonic piece with no lyrics. You don't miss lyrics - had no idea it could be done. It definitely stretches the creativity. Warriors (acapella with the vocal percussionist doing beatboxing and playing violin) and follow with Dream On (just voices of an Aerosmith song) because Geoff calls it Warriors 2.

Geoff is amazing...I often criticize their use of heave bass drops as a gimmick...but not always the case...check out some of his solo work....its amazing...Blackbird, 16 Tons, and The Headless Horseman. The funny thing is, all these groups are friends and often arrange for each other...for instance, Geoff did the Home Free arrangement I believe for "Elvira"...Laine supposedly did an arrangement for them as well. Tim, Geoff and Avi all worked with each other to help them tune their craft. Also, there is a video from the Sing Off tour which is a beatbox style thing with Laine from Voiceplay, Adam from HF and 1 other whose name escapes me.....all were on that same season of The Sing Off where HF won.

I have to admit it's taken me some time to accept this one. I was so in love with the original, and hated Gwen Stefani's version, but I'm warming to it as well as admiring the talent. VoicePlay bring musical theatre to acapella. That is their strenth. And Geoff of course. And Layne. And Eli. And now Cesar too. Queen in 5 Minutes is another dramatic video of theirs but Warriors, Boy Bands in 5 Minutes will both give you very different images. Their Phantom of the Opera though old is great.. And maybe Once Upon a Dream. Geoff Castellucci is a beast, check out his solo songs esp. Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold. or Blackbird.

You'll always have the original and the purpose of a cover (unwritten rule is to either sing it as good as the original or make it your own) is to take the original song, flip and tinker it, while still paying homage to the original, and they did just that. Aside from ''nanana'' and swapping the word man with girl, this was nothing like Gwen Stefani's Latin music inspired version. Tonally and lyrically, it was like the original, with influences from pop and hip-hop music. Also, you're everywhere, commenting and sharing info on the reaction videos.

A lot of reviewers pause many times throughout. I don't mind a pause, if something really needs a solid moment to react too, but I REALLY appreciate that you just let the song play, react, and go through it after. I don't really subscribe to anyone. I watch reaction videos more for the band, than the specific reactor. However, I'm subbing to you. I love that you have different invites each time, and that you're honest about whether you've already seen something or not. I'll watch your stuff, introduce me to some good listens.

If this IS your 1st Voice Play then Welcome to greatness. Buckle up Buttercup, Strap in and Enjoy. I really don't like Pentatonics style or musicality. (Although I totally respect their talent and they totally deserve success) I also don't really enjoy the much more country vibe of Home Free as much as I Like Voice Play. I just want to let you know I have seen them (Voice Play) LIVE at the Christmas Party in Magic Kingdom a couple of years ago (before Covid-19 of course) and none of the members of this group are overly post production in their sound on their videos. What you hear is what you get with them. You should listen to some of their earlier stuff and then go for their Nightmare Before Christmas videos. You will SOOO enjoy both their music, and the theatrics and production of their work.

Sometimes Eli & Layne the beat boxer sing undertone as Geoff is singing. Eli has a very big range to his voice.

Looks like it’s been awhile since you guys reacted to Voiceplay. They just dropped a new one also featuring Ashley Diane-We Don’t Talk About Bruno. Hope you check it out-it’s fire!

You also have a couple good Jewish boys in the group who would want to maintain the original version's cultural/religious intent while blending the pop into it. Very tasty arrangement!

Wonderful reaction fellas. Since you like bassist, have you checked into Tomi P yet? He has a 6 octave range and does a cappella as well. Try his cover of Hellfire from Hunchback of Notre Dame.

Ahhhhhhhhh! Nice. You have found the perfect group if you like the theatricallity of vocal groups. You couldn't ask for better in that department, and, AND they're no slouches when it comes to vocals, either. ( Lol ) Oogie Boogie Song is where a lot of people start with Voiceplay, and you could do much worse than to check that one out. Just about any of the Disney medleys they've done are great, full costume affairs, complete with body paint in some instances. They've done quite a few other songs from The Nightmare Before Christmas as well. Any of them you decide to react to will blow your socks off. Pffft, for that matter, anything they've done will do that. Now, mind you, I'm a Pentaholic. I have been since their first performance on the Sing Off in 2011. They'll always hold a very special place in my heart, and I will always love anything they put out. Mostly because they haven't put out anything I truly dislike, and I doubt they will. But...the other two groups, Home Free and Voiceplay, each have a place on any playlist I make. Fun video, great reaction, love the insight you bring to the music.

Love the content, just wish ya'll would normalize the freaking volume between your intro and what's spoken/played. Especially when you have an air horn in it! My top 5 from Voice Play (+1 Low Bass Cover from Geoff) - Lil Mermaid Medley, Moana Medley, Carry On Wayward Son, Phantom of the Opera, Oogie Boogie Song... and Geoff's Far Over The Misty Mountain Cold. Cheers Gentlemen!

You guys should react to juice wrld. He's one of my favorite artists and he has some really good music and I think you guys would also appreciate his talent and the beat choices he has. The song that blew him up was lucid dreams(he hated the song tho). A sad song to listen to: dark place, denial, wishing well(many more). A hype song:armed and dangerous. their are many more songs and I definitely would recommend many more if wanted

Lol, now you guys understand why most of us guys hate Geoff so much. His voice has a 5 octave range. He can sing all the way down to low bass and all the way up to low/middle tenor. I can only sing high bass to low/middle baritone.

Oh, and if you really want to hear more of Geoff's low bass, you should listen to their cover of My Mother Told Me.
