The song is from Fiddler on the Roof....about a poor Jewish man and his family dealing with daily life in Russia at the beginning of the Revolution. (definitely not Latin lol) Voiceplay flipped it on its ass and gave it an awesome, energetic pop feel........and it was so fun seeing Layne have some feature singing instead of just beat boxing...he has a great voice! Love your reactions as always! you are such a fun reactor!

I believe he was referring to the Gwen Stefani cover "If I were a rich girl" which is definitely a more "pop/latin" version of the original. But the original, much like a lot of Fiddler on the Roof, has a very klezmer band vibe and runs which is traditionally in pentatonic and blues scale progressions which can also be found in more modern latin pop music. So I can see where he's coming from. Growing up with both versions of the song played constantly in my house, this was definitely a fun upbeat pop flare to the original. I love watching your reactions! Keep up the great work!

You're talking about Cesar bringing the runs to Voiceplay, but people seem to forget that Eli does amazing runs. Everybody knows Geoff for his bass and they remember Layne for his beat-boxing, but Eli's over here doing some amazing vocal work, too. Not to say Ceasar won't bring it to the table, but Voiceplay fans haven't been lacking for runs here.

This show "Fiddler on the Roof" is an actual story about my father's side of our family. Odessa, Russia. This rendition is by far the Most powerful version I have ever heard. Chaim Topal, the Original "Tevye" of the Musical is still alive in Tel Aviv. Would be interesting to know how he would like this version. I saw him perform this Musical in London1983. Great!!

Dave, the musical term you were looking for about the song is that it's in a minor mode. It is. Voice play plays with that too, in this fabulously outstanding arrangement. They need to get Ashley into the group. The women they feature are wonderful all, but Ashley FITS. Your reaction was so delightful! Made me laugh! Thanks.

Loved your response, as always! Early on you commented on your love for runs.... so I was just WAITING to see you react to the outrageous Ashley run. Such fun! Really appreciate your re-plays on key parts of the song. It's crazy, I was just saying to someone the other day that - to me, and as much as I love her voice - Adriana just doesn't have the sass and presence to hold her own. Great reaction as always! I think you’re primarily thinking about Gwen Stefani’s version. She’s altered the lyrics a lot from the original song, which is from the musical “Fiddler on the Roof”. VoicePlay’s lyrics are the original lyrics (except when Ashley sings “girl” instead of “man”).
