The amazing part to me is that Voiceplay brings in a featured artist and they all fit like they have been doing it forever.

To be fair, DeeJay has quite a bit of experience with them. This is like his fourth? maybe fifth? with them. I know a total of four off the top of my head, but I feel like there’s one I’m missing. And…he’s a pro and a half. 😁

So I don't forget, they do shorts/minis and one of them was Crazy. You would love it. Geoff is doing solo work while staying with Voiceplay. VP and Geoff usually produce one cover per month. He and Layne have been singing together since middle school and professionally since 1997. Eli joined them around 2010. Cesar joined 2 years ago. You are correct, all of them are and have been soloists, but they choose to sing together and they are amazing. Even more amazing is that they can bring in someone from outside and all sound like they've been together forever. I love Voiceplay and will ALWAYS be here when you react to them. Thanx, guys!!

VoicePlay's attention to detail even to the costuming is amazing. The Beach Boys albums featured them in matching outfits. For this video each member dressed accordingly to five specific album covers.

Layne envisioned this song as the room being the one each of them have in their homes where the record and are creative. In addition to their arrangements, their attention to the look of the video helps make them distinctive. This was filmed in Rayne’s Room Recording Studio. Owned by Layne, they have filmed many videos here including ACA Top 10s and Chandelier. When Layne dressed the set he included items for each VoicePlay member, Deejay, his daughters, his grandmother (the jewelry store sign) and his wife’s family. Items he added for himself included his violin, his hoverboard and a book of his favorite Disney movie.

Geoff and Layne were singing together in middle school, they're the best of friends and well used to working together. Everyone they take into the group is carefully chosen to fit in, not only vocally, but in character, and to make sure they work well together. It took them something like two years fo find J.None after Tony left, and now of course he's gone to sing with the navy, but they managed to find Cesar very quickly.

Love you guys' reactions! You noted the stuff in the room, which Layne arranged with things that represented members of the group (the piano was Geoff and there was a Hamilton book on the piano because DeeJay is touring with the show right now). The Jewelry sign that you pointed out belonged to Layne's grandmother, who owned a jewelry store. He'd been wanting to use it in a video, so this seemed like a good place.

I’ve spent a lot of years singing with groups. I won’t say any of them are anywhere near as good as Home Free, Voice Play or Pentatonix by a long shot, but I know how satisfying it is to build a chord with voices. A solo artist is, by definition, a bit one dimensional. There is only one voice, and it can be a bit lonely. When you put a group together, it’s something more, especially when you are the one to bring in the unexpected note that makes the chord special or adds tension to a line through dissonance. There’s nothing like it. You can’t get the same effect with instruments alone or accompaniment. Only voices can create those little moments that make singing together so exciting for both singers and audiences.

Great reaction guys. 2 of my favorites. Milo's sweet tea and sweet tarts. I even have a tattoo of a heart with wings and Sweetart across the middle. My daughter and I drink 6-8 gallons of Milo's sweet tea every month. Layne's grandmother used to own a jewelry store. That sign was in the window. Everything in the room pertains to each person, Voiceplay or the era. The room is one of his daughters that she turned into a studio.

I grew up listening to the Beach boys and Motown and somehow they introduced a little bit of Motown into this one. Love it when DeeJay comes in and he was very restrained this time. Minimal riffs, but oh so pretty. Very different from the original and now I have two versions.

Milo's Sweet Tea is good. So is their peach tea. But their extra sweet tea is another matter altogether. I like sweet -- hell, I used to eat sugar cubes -- but their extra sweet made me want to die before I could stop myself gulping it down. Ugh! As to this rendition of In My Room, it's the only one I ever liked, and that's including the Beach Boys and Tim Foust from his do-wop album.

You may get a kick out of this, but then you'll know my approx age lol My sis and I had a babysitter who knew Brian Wilson. We lived in Redondo Beach, Ca. in the 60s. Our babysitter took us to Redondo Beach pier and we ran into Brian. He was a shy but nice guy. Even though I was young, I knew who he was, as my parents had Beach Boy records. Good job as always guys! Catch you next time. DD

I think Tim's is closer to the original ... More like a true cover...and this is more of a tribute to the original so it is very different. They are both great musically but feel different. I think that's why people have a strong preference for one over the other. I prefer this one, but I understand why many prefer Tim's.

Hey Chis and Matt, this was once again a beautiful cover by VoicePlay. And I like the tangents you go on... 😀 If i may suggest an artist, how about some Ayreon if you aren't familiar with that project yet. I have a feeling you guys might like it with your background in music and recording. I'd suggest the song "The Day That The World Breaks Down" from the 2017 album The Source. (kzbin.info/www/bejne/pXfYfn6ap9-Dp7c) The song features all 11 singers of the album and the video has text pop-ups with background information on production, the singers and the story. There are live performances too, but the linked video is a good starting point.

Got to say, I'm the opposite. This was probably the one Beach Boys' song I didn't much like. I found it boring, even tho' it had great harmonies in it. But I love this version. That staccato in it gives it so much 'drive' and rhythm I found lacking in the original. (They were my first concert in I think 1973? or so. I was about 15?). But different folks have different preferences.

To me, Tim's version is the most agoraphobic thing I could imagine - which is very true to Brian Wilson's intention. As a result, I'll never listen a second time. This one talks about the beauty of having your own space where you're free to be creative, be yourself - a very positive spin and one I thoroughly enjoy. The point of covers is to push a song into something other than the original, or push it further. Both Tim and VP did that, but in very different ways. Choices.
