VoicePlay - In The Air Tonight (Phil Collins) *REACTION!* 🔥

The car is a 1972 Pontiac LeMans. Owned by Layne's (the beatboxer's) father. Yes, they set up their own set. And they rig their own lighting, smoke and fans, and program them if need be to go off/change on specific timers. There's only 3 things they don't do. 1. Run the steady cam, because they can't physically be behind AND in front of the camera at the same time, but they do run the cam for others when need be. 2. Advanced makeup/prosthetics, they have a super talented artist friend do that for them. And 3. The final audio mixing is done by Ed Boyer. They do the initial mixing themselves, and then Boyer polishes the rest up. Everything else from start to finish, is done by them alone and Geoff's wife Kathy.

What I absolutely adore about this video is how very, _very_ 80s it is--everything from the car to the clothes to the "drums" to Geoff's hair, the VHS artifacts and 4:3 aspect ratio at the beginning and end, the old-school rock belts--none of it would have been out of place back on MTV when I was a teenager. Just phenomenal.

This is Layne's arrangement, Nothing Else Matters was Geoff's. Eli arranged their versions of Creep and Eleanor Rigby. He has partnered with Layne for a few others and will be doing more arrangements going forward. They just dropped The Lion Sleeps Tonight. You need to watch it (Layne) or Drunken Sailor (Geoff) to see their comedic side. They can do anything! Trust me!!

I really enjoyed your reaction- thanks for coming back to Voice Play! As the other "Voice Players have told you in the comments they do all of their own production and have complete control of their creative expression. Former baritone singer, Tony Wakim, and beatboxer, Layne Stein own the production studio (PattyCake Productions) where most of Voice Play and solo Geoff Castellucci's videos are done. For this cover, they are in the back parking lot by the back door and loading area of their studio located at the Oviedo Mall in Oviedo Florida. If you go to Voice Play's channel and click on "shorts" you will see a variety of minis that are very raw and casual without the production that are filmed inside the mall. The 1972 Pontiac LeMans that you see here belongs to beatboxer Layne's dad which he has had since he bought it new. I am hoping that you will check out Voice Play's cover of "Valhalla Calling"- it will blow you away!

Yes they do their own lighting, stage settings, costumes and everything else. It's all in the credits below the title. The only instrument they've used is Layne on the violin a few times.

Well, they did use a 'bat' in "Seven Nation Army" for a sound effect - but you SEE it in the video. In this song, the surprising 'instrumental' sound at the beginning (a sax I think?) is Cesar's voice I believe. If you do not see it, only hear it, then it is made by one of their voices.

The "set" was the loading dock behind the mall where Layne's studio, Pattycake Productions is. They ended up having an audience for the filming of this one.

This is a goodie. I could listen to this over and over. Have you done VPs Creep? It's the back door to Pattycake Productions in the mall. Pattycake was bought by Tony Wakim who was the baritone in VP but really wanted to get into production so he and Layne (beatboxer) bought the studio. Both Geoff and VoicePlay use Pattycake for a lot of their videos. The car Pontiac LeMans belongs to Layne's dad who bought it new, 50 years ago. Liked that J None was wearing his Miami Vice jacket. I never get enough of VoicePlay or Geoff's solos (not acapella). They just dropped a new video which started off as a mini (vertical format, usually under 2 minutes) but Layne and the guys were having so much fun with The Lion Sleeps Tonight that it's now a full-length version. I'll bet Eli (bald tenor) did the CGI for the animals. The mini formats are usually in the open area of the mall, when they did Peaches (Super Mario Brothers) it was in front of the GameStop which is where Geoff extended his high range to Bb5. His lowest is a growl of A0. Try Creep as well!

Not a car buff per se, but old enough to remember that style of muscle car from the '70s. I would have been in Junior High back then, so maybe just a few years later before all the guys I knew were obsessed.😄

Over the last few years they’ve been using music from the karaoke track in the outros. As a patron, I find that one of the most useful parts of the perks. I have no musical training and I have trouble processing auditorily at times so I miss all the audible cues that many people catch the first time through. Listening to the karaoke track, which is frequently a beautiful piece of music on it’s own, I am able to more fully appreciate the total package when I can hear the different parts that each person is contributing.

Thank you Jimmy for a priceless reaction to Voice Play. I am a new subscriber. Voice Play are known as The Theater Kids of Acapella. You will get a taste of that in their son called Queen In 5 Minutes. It is a medley of Queen songs & the theatrical story that goes along with it will blow you away. Some of their newest ones are Hell Fire from The Hunchback of Notre Dame & Cesar does some awesome whistle notes while playing the air guitar. Voice Play knocks them out of the ball park..They are home run hitters in everything they do.

This song is amazing. I forget how good they did it. Little sneaky inside patreon info, Geoff often puts a bit of the karaoke track on the outro, as a patreon we get the karaoke tracks for their songs.
