Correct! There is no "main" guy in this group. However, the lead singer (Geoff Castellucci) here is one of the original members, along with the beat boxer Layne Stein. Also, Mykal Kilgore was an original member and has returned for this and a couple other colabs. Eli (Elly) Jacobson is the bald gentleman and Cesar Delarosa rounds out this group in this song. Voiceplay has settled down with four main characters (Geoff, Layne, Eli, and Cesar) and they incorporated a featured singer; probably needed for the cover they want to sing; including a few women. BTW: Geoff has his own channel with just himself (not accapella). This is where he overlays his 5-octave range. FYI: both channels are independent and are created, arranged, directed by the cast. Geoff's wife helps with the costuming. They are known as the "theater kids" of accapella. And, they cover almost every genre of music. Very talented group. The 4 + 1 structure is only temporary. They're only doing that until J. None finishes his Service in the United States Navy. I mean, they could change their mind once he's done, but for now, that fifth spot in the group belongs to J. None and everyone else just keeps that spot warm for him. Now once J. None is done with the Navy and returns, they COULD (and probably should) adapt a 5 + 1 structure because having featured vocalists is kinda their thing and it would be a shame to lose that ever-changing uniqueness about them. It's also possible that once he's done with the Navy, J. None might choose not to return full time to VoicePlay and choose to focus, instead, on a solo career, which I know would disappoint a lot of fans, but I think would be fine because VoicePlay would just carry on as they have been with the 4 + 1 structure and bring J. None in occasionally.

Thanks for returning to VoicePlay. They never disappoint. They released a non-theatrical cover of "Stand by Me" with Mykal as guest on Friday that is beautiful. On Geoff's solo channel, he has three tunes related to Tolkien's Middle Earth that are in costume, but all vocals and instrumentation is all Geoff. Also impressive. Choose anything on VoicePlay or Geoff's channels and be prepared to always be amazed.

You are the first reactor I've seen to laugh at the moment when Mykal grabs Cesar and shakes him, singing "Be prepared!" near the end of the song. That bit cracked me up, and everyone else just sort of glosses over it. Loved your reaction!

VoicePlay's members and many of their featured guests have all performed at Disney and/or Universal so they come by the theatrics naturally. Try Little Mermaid by them, Drunken Sailor, Tennessee Whiskey, Creep, The Way You Make Me Feel, I Can't Make You Love Me, We Don't Talk About Bruno.

Layne Stein (beatboxer) arranged this one and he said (quite rightly) that only Geoff could "play" (sing) Scar! They all are insanely talented on many levels (not just singing)! And then they're wonderful, down-to-earth guys who never ever take themselves too seriously 😉⚘️🕊

The featured artist, Mykal Kilgore, was a founding member of the group when it was called 4theLove in 1997. He left for a successful Broadway career a couple of years later. Since this was so Geoff-centric and Mykal has an amazing high tenor voice, they promised to bring him back again where he would be featured a little more. They almost always make sure that every person gets a moment or two to shine. They dropped Stand By Me a couple of days ago with Mykal. I promise, you will love it! Subscribed in anticipation!

Geoff (the bass) isn’t the main guy. But they made a Top 10 Disney Villains Medley years ago and fans kept requesting full versions. This is the 3rd Villain song they have done and Geoff has been lead in all of them. You know that deep voice is just perfect for the villain! 😅😊❤

I gave them the #TheatreKidsOfAcapella. I love musical theater and movies. Geoff is a great villain. He was a perfect villain in their cover of Hell Fire.

Left to right.... Layne Stein - beatboxer, baritone, arrangements. Geoff (Jeff) Castellucci - bass, arrangements, solo channel (not acapella). Cesar De La Rosa - baritone, tenor. Mykal (Michael) Kilgore - guest, original founding member (1997-2002). Eli (el lee) Jacobson - tenor, rock tenor, lighting, arrangements. There are only four in Voiceplay right now so they collaborate with various artists for the 5th. They are an independent group that does everything themselves except intricate makeup, cameras and audio mixing. They brought back Mykal to do "Stand By Me". A song that they did way back in the beginning of the group. Geoff's wife Kathy is the Production Manager for both Geoff and Voiceplay. Geoff has his own channel where he sings solo with instruments and sound effects. He has a bunch of fantastic videos. He clones himself 3-4 for harmonies and extras. Each with their own name, personality and range..... Jeff, Jeoph, Goff and Daryl. Jeff, Jeoph and Goff got their names in his "Way Down" video. Daryl got his name in his "Ghost Riders In The Sky" video. Geoff's latest video is "Song of Durin" from the Hobbit movies. He portrays 5 of the dwarves in the movie. Absolutely gorgeous. I really enjoyed your reaction- thanks! Voice Play just released "Stand By Me" with Mykal Kilgore singing the lead- it will blow you away! Voice Play members and their featured guests have worked as performers for Universal and/or Disney so they are the best at anything Disney. You liked their female featured guest Ashley Diane in "Total Eclipse Of The Heart" so you would enjoy her again in their Disney cover of "We Don't Talk About Bruno". For another Disney cover with a female singer check out their "Little Mermaid Medley" with Rachel Potter- you will love that one!

Voiceplay never disappoints. Geoff (Jeff) Castelucci, the base singer, has his own channel where he takes hit songs and does solely base covers of those songs. These covers will go so low they shake your headphones, but they also do great justice to Geoff's high range (He can sing in nearly 5 octaves). While there is some use of instruments in Geoff's solo work, it is essential and simplistic so that he can harmonize with himself throughout the songs--Thus playing multiple roles and versions of himself on screen at once. You really can't go wrong with any of his solo work, but some of my personal favorites are Blackbird by The Beatles, High and Dry by Radiohead, and Ain't No Sunshine by Bill Withers.

He is also the one that does the instrumentation by playing it on his keyboard and using plug-ins to approximate the other instruments most of the time. He has however used other methods for sound. In I See Fire, that snare is actually a shovel being pushed into piles of mud and sand.

In terms of "What would VoicePlay do" songs, my personal favorite is their cover of Nothing Else Matters by Metallica. That said, they add their VoicePlay magic to everything they touch, and I'll be here to follow your journey through their music!

I would add "Dream On" by Aerosmith to that list because what Geoff Castellucci does with that song is mind blowing. Also, since these two seem to like Disney, I would also add "Hellfire" on that list because Geoff Castellucci as Claude Frollo is just perfection.

The rap session is to take the place of the conversation that the hyenas are having. They wanted to include it but didn’t just want to do the spoken words. They did that in the cover of Hellfire and not everybody liked it so this was a compromise. Mykal didn’t get a lot in this even though he’s the guest artist, but he got to shine in their recent release of Stand By Me. He was an original member back when they were in high school and left shortly after that. He has had a pretty successful career. It was great to see how well they still connected after about 25 years in the behind-the-scenes available on Patreon. Mykal and Cesar (the dimwit hyena) really hit it off although that was the first time they had met. He knew Geoff and Layne from when they performed together. I’m pretty sure that he had met Eli before since he was at a neighboring high school and they would’ve competed against each other in singing competitions. I don’t know about weird, but they’ve done several songs that I never thought could be performed a cappella : Nothing Else Matters by Metallica ((Metallicapella) and they’re two orchestral pieces that have no lyrics:In the Hall of the Mountain King and Classical Chaos (although they are a little strange since Layne came up with the concept!). Another that doesn’t seem to lend itself to a cappella would be Aerosmith’s Dream On but they killed it. They tend to a little more adventurous in their shorts. They did Mahna Mahna (the Muppet song), the song from the Tiki Room, the song from the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland, among others. Subbed to see if you continue down this road.
