Great video. Every Marine veteran of Vietnam has a unique story. I served with India Co., 3rd Battalion / 4th Marines / 3rd Marine Division in Vietnam from 10 Dec., 1967 to 25 Jan. 1968, ( 46 days in country ) when I was seriously wounded on Rt 9, close to Camp Carroll. Our battalion of 1,200 Marines sustained 88% casualties, 187 killed / 871 wounded, during the 12 months of 1968.

I really like this man. It’s sad to hear about his family’s opinions about his role in Vietnam when he came home from his service, but this is how technology impacts public opinion. This was the first war that America was involved in that was televised on tv and sound-bytes taken out of context influenced public opinion. We are living through the same thing now with smartphones and public opinion about police brutality.

You're right when you say that many people don't care about our military personnel, if they are not directly involved, but when someone like myself wants to take the time to hear about your story, we do care, you're a fellow American that fought for my freedoms that I enjoy today, so in that, it affects me directly. So, I want to say to you you sir, welcome home, and thank you for your service and sacrifice. It is because of men like you, that I've never had to see combat the way you have, and for that, I'm eternally grateful, I think it's the least I can do for you so you don't feel that 6ou wasted your time in the military, doing what you had to do. My father served in the 82nd airborne and I just wanted to say I appreciate your story and sharing that with the world out large, and thank you for your service, I'm ashamed that we treated our service members that way when they came home from Nam.. I wasn't alive yet but still pretty amazing to listen to the story, and hope that we're not repeating it now but it sure seems that way!!!

Larry, I am viewing your videos basically randomly & not in sequence. I have just viewed this on for the second time. I have no idea if David is still with us but certainly hope so. David, you have the knack of being able to pass on your experiences in an interesting fashion. Your experiences in Vietnam were well stated; don't really understand how you & your fellow soldiers survived while still being human but, I guess that is war!. As far as the 'welcome home' bit goes, that is a sad endicment on those who were so wrongly critical.

After about 13 months in-country getting shot at and surviving miserable conditions to come home to that lousy ignorant reaction from protestors is disgusting and shameful. Even veterans of iraq and Afghanistan are in awe with the conditions in Vietnam that Gi's suffered there. Absolutely Viet Vets deserve respect, and to be thanked for their service.
