The famous 'Black Horse' Cavalry. My unit worked with these guys quite often in Vietnam when I was there in 1969. A lot of great guys who did our country proud.

Thank You Rod Lawrence....... I am your age and had joined the Navy in 1964. I never saw any conflict, but had the experience of serving with lots of great men of the kind you describe. While on leave and traveling back to my base in December of 1964 I met a young paratrooper in Minneapolis who was also traveling back to his base at Fort Bragg. It was New Year's Eve and we decided to go out and celebrate in the downtown area. We were treated very well by the locals that evening and we had a great time. I know we would have been good friends had we been in the same unit. He was a very nice young guy and we wished each other well when we parted. I have often wondered what happened to him as the Gulf of Tonkin incident was just months away. I hope and pray he was as lucky as you were. It was a different world back then.

Larry, thank you so much for these stories. Oh they bring me to tears. My father was a medic in ww2 , he passed in 2021 at 100 years old. I wish I would have known you then so you could have interviewed him. I would try to ask him about his experiences, sometimes he'd start to open up, but then he'd brake down and just wouldn't talk about it. Thanks again brother God bless you in your work and calling.

It would have been an honor to interview your Father. Some of my favorite stories are from my Army Medics and Navy Corpsmen. Please check out Ed McHenry's story that I released a few days ago. World War II Navy Corpsman at Iwo Jima. Hopefully my work will continue. God bless you!!
