Voices of the Himalaya

After two years and 25 videos in a dozen different Himalayan languages (with English subtitles), "Voices of the Himalaya" has been watched over 200,000 times. This is a summary of those videos - looking at community, work, and language.

I am one of those 'inji' as Japanese call us Lakota call us 'Wasicun' . I have immense respect for my Tibetan rinpoches. They would not teach us Tibetan at first. Many thought we could not do it I think. I am trying to teach myself Tibetan now so I can read the Puja texts and the Sadhanas in Tibetan.

What about the Tamang language which is completely oral but all the languages that have been mentioned here all written language. I know their third generation won’t speak as fluent as people from native countries. Languages such as Tamang which needs worlds attention to preserve it.

All the Himalayan languages should be protected after all we all speak Tibetan related languages.

i belong to the shingshapas tribe of Mt. Makalu. Till now our tribe is not well known to the outsiders. We have language and culture similar to the western Tibetans and follow the ritual which is more shamanic/Bon type. But the mass conversion of our people to Christianity has threatened the existence of the tribe with the majority being Christian these days has named themselves as 'Lhomi' over 'Shingshpa'. so far there has not been any documentary, journal, documentation on our tribe. I fear my tribe will get extinct before people even know about us.

@@shielason7414 Thanks for replying to my comment. I would really love to help you but I have no knowledge of Tibetan script. We speak Shingshapa dialect which is bit diffrent than Tibetan spoken today. Is there anything else I can help you with, plz feel free.

I can speak Tibetan as it is the General Official language, although my Amdo dialect is a tad rough
